A DC power supply can have three different input voltages is connected via a switch to one of
four resistive loads; R1, R2, R3 and R4. Where R1= 3 , R2 = 6 , R3 = 12 and R4 = 24 .
The input voltage can take the values 6, 12 and 24 volts with probabilities 0.250, 0.50 and 0.250
respectively.
The switch as shown in the figure closes on any resistor with equal probability.
The switch closings are independent of the input voltage.
Two random variables are defined: X is the current through the power supply, and Y is the input
voltage.

Problem 3
A discrete- time random process Xn is defined as follows. A special die is tossed and outcome k
is observed the process is then given by Xn=k for all n. this special die is composed of six faces
showing a different number. Face1shows 1, Faces 2 and 4 show 2 faces 3 and 5 show 3,
and lastly face 6 shows 5.

d) Find the mean and autocovariance functions of Xn.
Problem 4
a. Suppose 30 resistors, of which 7 have defects, are sold to an electronic store. If
the store manager inspects 6 of the resistors randomly, what is the probability
that he/she finds at least one defective resistor?
b. Integrated circuits from a certain factory pass a certain quality test with
probability 0.8. the outcomes of all tests are independent of each other. A total
500 circuits are tested every day. What is the probability that more than 400
circuits will pass the quality test?
Problem 5
A packet switch has two input ports and two output ports. At a given time slot a packet arrives at
input port one with probability 2/6, and is equally likely to be destined to output port 1 or 2. Let X
