Assignment 1

3D Solid Modelling
Name: Luqman Hakiem Bin Mohd Razib
Student ID: 0325648
Step by step instruction with diagram on how to create a 3D model based on the
diagram given.

1. Open the SolidWorks application

2. Create a New Document then choose the Part icon on the screen.

3. The assignment given in millimetre unit. Change the unit into millimetre
by clicking the IPS icon at the bottom part.

4. Choose and click on the Front Plane at left side icon list and then Sketch

5. Click on the Rectangle icon and choose Corner Rectangle to draw on the
plane.

6. Measure the length and height of big rectangle by clicking on Smart

Dimension icon.
The length of big rectangle = 180.00mm
The height of big rectangle = 30.00mm

7. Draw another a small rectangle and measure the small rectangle by using
Smart Dimension.
The length of small rectangle = 100.00mm
The height of small rectangle = 15.00mm

8. Sketch a fillet on the both upper corner of the small rectangle by clicking
on Fillet icon.

9. Click on the Features and then choose Extrude Boss/Base to form a 3D

model. Adjust the width of the rectangle at Direction 1 on the left side
panel as instructed in SolidWorks assignment.
The width of the rectangle = 150.00mm

10. Sketch a Fillet on the edge of the rectangle with fillet parameters about
10.00mm for each edges

11. Select the right plane and click on Reference Geometry. Then choose
Plane icon to make a plane.

12.Select Coincident and Tick when it done.

13.Click on Sketch and draw a small rectangle by selecting Rectangle icon

and measure it by using Smart Dimension.
The length of small rectangle = 80.00mm
The height of small rectangle = 15.00mm
The distance between the edge of big rectangle and small rectangle =
35.00mm

14.Sketch a fillet at the both upper corner of small rectangle by clicking on

Fillet icon.

15.Click on Features and select Extruded Cut in order to cut the small
rectangle. Choose Through All for Direction 1 at the left side panel.

16.Select the right plane and click on Reference Geometry. Then choose
Plane icon to make a plane.

17. Select Coincident and Tick when it done.

18.Draw a small circle at upper left corner of the rectangle by clicking on

Circle icon. Measure the diameter of the small circle by clicking on Smart
Dimension.
The diameter of the small circle = 10.00mm

19. Select Linear Sketch Pattern to draw more circle at each corner of the
rectangle. Adjust the distance of the circle at Direction 1 (x-axis) and
Direction 2 (y-axis) on the left side panel.
The distance between two circles in x-axis = 160.00mm
The distance between two circles in y-axis = 130.00mm

20. Click on Features and select Extruded Cut in order to cut the small
circles. Choose Through All for Direction 1 at the left side panel.

21.Select the top plane of this model and draw a centreline diagonal between
two circles. Then, draw a rectangle by choosing 3 point corner rectangle
icon based on the centreline. Measure the length and width of the
rectangle by using Smart Dimension.
The length of big rectangle = 90.00mm
The width of big rectangle = 15.00mm

22.Click on Features and select Extruded Boss/Base. Make sure the height
of the rectangle is 15.00mm upward.

23.Click on Fillet and sketch it on the both upper edges of small rectangle
with fillet parameters about 10.00mm.

24.Choose the top plane of small rectangle and click on Reference

Geometry. Then choose Plane icon to make a plane.

25.Select Coincident and Tick when it done.

26.Draw a small rectangle on the plane 3 by click on 3 point corner

rectangle icon. Measure the length and width by using Smart Dimension.
The length of small rectangle = 40.00mm
The width of small rectangle = 60.00mm

27.Click on Features and select Extruded Boss/Base. Make sure the height
of the small rectangle is 80.00mm upward.

28.Select the plane of rectangle and click on Reference Geometry. Then

choose Plane icon to make a plane.

29.Next, select Coincident and Tick when it done.

30.Draw a line for the upper left corner of rectangle to the centre of the
rectangle in order to find the midpoint. The angle of the line constructed is
about 45o degree.

31.Click on Features and select Extruded Cut in order to cut the rectangle
about 45o degree. Choose Through All for Direction 1 at the left side
panel. Select Tick if done.

32.Choose the top plane of the rectangle and click on Reference Geometry.
Then choose Plane icon to make a plane.

33.Select Coincident and Tick when it done.

34.Choose the top plane and click on Convert Entities. Next, draw a circle on
the centre of the lower edge and measure the diameter of circle which is
60.00mm by using Smart Dimension.

35.Draw a centreline from the centre of the circle. Click on the Rectangle
icon and choose 3 point corner rectangle to draw a rectangle. Measure
the length and width of rectangle by using Smart Dimension.

The length of the rectangle = 125.00mm

The width of the rectangle = 40.00 mm

36.Draw a big and small circle at the both edge centre of rectangle with the
diameter 40.00mm and 15.00mm

37.Draw a triangle by using line with the distance 20.00mm and 30.00mm for
each side. Then, choose Trim Entities icon and click on Trim to closest to
remove the unwanted line in the diagram.

38.Click on Features and select Extruded Boss/Base. Make sure the height
of the plane chosen is 20.00mm upward. Click Tick when it done.

39.The 3D model finally finished.
