How to Install EndNote X7 and the Accompanying Files in 6 Steps

1. Install EndNote X7 on your computer


Follow the producers instructions.
IMPORTANT: If you had installed a previous version of EndNote, back up your EndNote libraries in a
separate folder and uninstall the older version before upgrading to EndNote X7.
The EndNote X7 folder is now created.

2. Add Cite While You Write commands for using EndNote X7 with Word (if there is no EndNote X7 tab in
Word after the 1st step)

For Word 2007/2010/2013, under C:\Program Files\EndNote X7, click on Configure EndNote.exe

If Cite While You Write was installed properly, the next window will display the message "EndNote
Configuration is Completed". Click Finish.
3. Copy the import filters
These filters were configured in order to import references from some online databases provided by
the Library. Unzip this file and save the filters in C:\Program Files\EndNote X7\Filters.

4. Copy the English style APA 6th and the French styles APA 6th and IEEE
The Library created a version of the APA 6th style in English including more types of documents relevant
to the Polytechnique community than the original EndNote style.
For documents in French, the Library recommends the bibliographic styles APA6th_fr_EPM or
IEEE_fr_EPM, which have been adapted from the APA 6th and IEEE styles in English.
To find other styles, go to http://endnote.com/downloads/styles or click Help EndNote Output
Styles in EndNote.
Save all styles in the folder C:\Program Files\EndNote X7\Styles, which was created during EndNote
installation.

5. Activate the Open URL command linking references of journal articles to the Library collection
This directs towards the full text of the article, if available in the Library collection or towards the
interlibrary loan service, Colombo.
Open EndNote, choose Edit, then Preferences. Under EndNote Preferences select Find Full
Text. Click on OpenURL and enter the address in the screenshot. Deselect Automatically invoke
Find Full Text on newly-imported references. Click OK.

6. Configure the connection to the Library catalogue


Under EndNote X7 choose Edit Connection Files New Connection
Click Connection Settings.
Enter the settings in the following screenshot.
For Record Syntax choose MARC21 and for Text select ANSEL.
Continue with File Save As and save the connection file as Ecole Poly de Montreal.enz
