I.

Course Description/Objectives:
The primary content emphasis for this course pertains to the study of
American history from the Exploration and Colonization period to
the Reconstruction Period following the Civil War. Students will be
exposed to the historical, geographic, political, economic, and
sociological events; which influenced the development of the
United States and the resulting impact on world history. So that
students can clearly see the relationship between cause and effect
in historical events, students should have the opportunity to explore
those fundamental ideas and events; which occurred after
Reconstruction.

Teacher Policy & Requirements:


a. Assignments: Students will be expected to complete all
homework before class begins the day it is due. Students are
expected to write homework in their agendas everyday.
b. Tests: Students will be tested over each unit at the end of the
Unit. These tests will each be worth 100 points.
c. Make-ups: For students that are absent for class work, homework,
or tests, students will be given two additional days to make up work
for full credit. After two days, students will lose points on each late
assignment based on how late the assignment is received.
d. Quizzes: Quizzes will be given through each unit to check for
understanding.
e. Projects: Students will complete 2 large projects this year, one in
the Fall and one in the Spring. More details for these projects will be
provided in the coming weeks.
f. Absences: Students are expected to be at school every day.
Students have 2 days to turn in missing assignments.

g. Tardy: Students who are tardy to class more than 3 times in a


given quarter will be given a detention to be served in the morning
before school starts at 6:15am.
h. Book: America: History Of Our Nation Beginnings Through 1877.

Class Performance & Behavior Expectations: Students are expected


to be respectful at all times and to perform to the best of their
abilities on each and every assignment given. Students in my
classroom will be held to a high standard in which all students will
be encouraged and challenged to achieve.

Discipline: This is a school-wide discipline plan that outlines our


expectations for student behavior at Avant Garde Academy

1st offense: Verbal Warning
2nd offense: Parent Contact
3rd offense: Parent Contact & Lunch Detention
4th offense: Office Referral

Grade Scale:
A = 100% - 90%
B = 89% - 80%
C = 79% - 70%
D = 69% - 60%
F = Below 60%

Grades will be made up of 5 Categories:


1- Quiz = 20% of grade
2- Test = 30% of grade
3- Classwork = 25% of grade
4- Homework = 10% of grade
5- Projects = 15% of grade
