Classroom Rules

During the first couple days of school, I like to work with students to create a list of
rules together.

Classroom Expectations
Be Respectful
o Raise your and to speak
o Listen when others are speaking
o Talk quietly and politely
Be Safe
o Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself
o Sit correctly in your seat
o Use materials properly
Work Hard
o Do your best
o Never give up
o Have an I can attitude
Take Responsibility
o Complete all assignments
o Be honest about your actions
o Follow directions the first time

Behavior Expectations
In our classroom, students can earn raffle tickets that will be placed in a jar
weekly. Winners from our class will be drawn each week. Winners can pick a
prize from the prize box or a special coupon they can use in class. Students
are expected to follow classroom and school rules. If students do not follow
rules, these steps will be taken:
1st offense: Warning
2nd offense: Lose a raffle ticket/ 5 minutes off recess
3rd offense: Lose a raffle ticket/email home/ loss of all recess time
4th offense: Talk with our discipline coordinator
School Rules: You will find this in the Parent/Student Handbook.

Homework Policy
We will have math, reading, and spelling homework due on Friday each week
(or the last school day of the week). Homework is expected to be turned in
on time.
Late homework can be turned in the next school day for partial credit
(85%)
After 1 day late, no homework is accepted
If your student is absent, they have the same amount of days to make up
their missing work (example: if you student misses 2 days, they have 2 days
to make up their work). My goal is to prepare your student for fourth grade
and teach them to function independently; therefore, this policy will be
strictly enforced.
In Class Assignments
Students will be expected to complete individual assignments during class.
They will be given ample time to complete these assignments. Any student
who does not complete an assignment during the time given will be kept
from recess until the assignment is completed. If the assignment is not
completed in the time given it will be placed on the students desk the next
morning to be completed AFTER their morning work for that day. I DO NOT
send unfinished work home to be completed unless it is due to an absence.
Grading Scale
90-100
80-89

MAP Testing
Students will be participating in MAP testing three times during the school
year. MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) testing is a computerized test
that the students will take in reading and mathematics. This is an adaptive
test which means when taking the test, the difficulty of each question
depends on how well a student answers all of the previous questions. As the
students answer the correctly, the questions become more difficult. The final
score is an estimate of the students achievement level. The MAP scores will
serve as a measure of academic progress throughout the year.

Beginning of Grade and End of Grade Test

rd

North Carolina requires all 3 graders to take the BOG (Beginning of Grade
Test) in reading. This is used to help determine the growth of your childs
reading progress throughout the school year, and to help us set up
interventions to those students who need it. The BOG will be given to all
rd

nd

3 grade students on Wednesday September 2 , starting at 8 AM. It is a

multiple choice test with about 40 questions, and students have up to 4
hours to complete the test. More details about the test will be sent to you
very soon. The End of Grade Test will be administered at the end of the
school year.
Please discuss the rules and expectations with your child and we
will also discuss them in class. Please reinforce that students need
to be ready to learn. I want our class to be a place your child is
eager to come to. If any problems arise, please contact me. This
plan will be effective immediately. There is a sheet included in this
packet for you to sign. Your signature tells me you have seen, read,
and understand our classroom rules/expectations as well as the
homework and classwork policy. Thank you for your cooperation.

General Information for Third Grade

If there is a change in your childs transportation home from school, please
notify your childs teacher in writing. We cannot allow your child to take an
alternate ride without a note sent in your childs folder or a phone call to the
school office.
E-mail is the easiest way for me to communicate with parents. I check it
throughout the day. Please feel free to send any questions and concerns
through e-mail: [email protected]
Website: Here I will post pictures, homework, and important upcoming
dates!

Conferences: There are four days scheduled during the school year for
parent teacher conferences. The purpose of these conferences is to discuss
your childs strengths and weaknesses and to give you suggestions to help
your child develop further. More information about these will be given about
these at a later date.
Field Trips: We will have field trips this school year. We must have
permission for your child to attend these trips. Please have permission slips
and money turned in as soon as possible. Chaperones are needed for some
of our field trips and we would love to have you. I will let you know when the
time comes and take chaperones on a first come first serve basis.
Birthdays: I love birthdays and love celebrating them with your kiddos! You
may send a treat that will be eaten during regular snack time or lunch.
Please contact me with a day and time before sending in any birthday treats.
