Specification Note 02

This document provides information on site management and excavation work for construction projects. It describes clearing the site of vegetation and rubbish. It also covers the removal of tree roots and filling holes. Existing structures that need to be diverted are to be done as directed. Soil types are classified and protections put in place during excavation, including barricades and supporting underground services. Brick work and masonry is also outlined, including recommended brick tests, soaking bricks, laying techniques, joining new and old work, curing, and reinforced brick masonry.

Reinforcedbrickmasonry
Brick work strengthened by introduction of mild steel flats, hoop iron, expanded mesh or bars is
termed asreinforced brick masonry. Thisreinforced brick masonryis capable of resisting both
compressive as well as tensile and shear stress. On account of its ability to resist lateral
