OBJECTIVES
Derive the Boolean expressions and design the combinational circuit
according to the derived expressions
Simplify the combinational logic circuit by applying the Boolean algebra
theorems
LEARNING OUTCOMES
Upon completion of this experiment, students will be able to:
Apply the appropriate methods to simplify digital logic circuits
Design the simple digital electronic circuits
EQUIPMENT REQUIRED
IDL-800 Digital Lab Unit
IC type 74LS32 OR gate
IC type 74LS08 AND gate
IC type 74LS04 hex inverter
IC type 74LS00 NAND gate
IC type 74LS02 NOR gate
PROCEDURES
Part I
1. Show the output of each gate in terms of input variables. Tabulate the results
in Table 1.
2. Derive a Boolean expression for the output F shown in Figure 1.
3. Simplify the Boolean expression derived from step 2 by using the appropriate
Boolean laws.
4. Draw the new logic circuit that corresponds to the simplified equation.
5. Construct and compare both the circuits.

Part II
Complete each step for the following expressions:
F1 AB B
F3 AB A C AB(A B C )
1. Draw the logic circuits that produce the above Boolean expressions using any
of the gates. DO NOT SIMPLIFY THE EXPRESSION.
2. Complete a theoretical truth table for each of the Boolean expressions.
3. Simplify the expression above using the appropriate Boolean laws.
4. Draw the new logic circuit that corresponds with the simplified equation.
