White cotton. Silk was also
used earlier. And now, tussar silk in black, beige and dull orange.
Colours of fabric : Black, white, beige, green, dull brown.
Stitches used : Running stitch, stem stitch and satin stitch.
Threads used : Red, black, royal blue, mustard and green.
Motifs used : Peacock prints, temples, elephants, lions, cats, lotus, jewellery,
live scenes.
Types of Kantha : According to Jasleen Dhamija, there are 7 types of kantha
used in winter, book covers, bed sheets, mirrors, combs, pillows and valuables.
7 types : Lep kantha, Oar Kantha, Bayton, Durjani,
Aeshilata, Rumal and Sunani.
