SEAN RASH JOINS PBAS EXCLUSIVE

DOUBLE-DIGIT TITLES CLUB
Back-to-back victories in the PBA Fall Swing Badger Open and Detroit Open
for his 10th and 11th career titles made Sean Rash the 51st player in PBA history
to win at least 10 PBA Tour titles.
Of the 51, 42 are already members of the PBA Hall of Fame. The others who
are title-eligible for PBA Hall of Fame consideration are Chris Barnes, Tommy
Jones, Mika Koivuniemi, Patrick Allen, Jason Belmonte, Bryan Goebel, Steve
Hoskins, Wes Malott and Rash.
Of those with at least 10 titles, only Goebel and Hoskins are currently eligible
based on the second criteria, which is a minimum 20 years of PBA membership.
Assuming the following players maintain their memberships, Barnes (18 titles)
will become eligible for PBA Hall of Fame consideration in 2018, Allen (13) and
Koivuniemi (15) in 2019, Jones (17) in 2020, Malott (10) in 2021, Rash (11) in
2025, and Belmonte (12) in 2028.
If a player doesnt meet the 10 title minimum requirement for eligibility, the
alternative is five standard PBA Tour titles plus two majors. Mike Scroggins (eight
titles including two majors) is membership-eligible and title-eligible under the
alternate criteria (for the record, Rash, Barnes, Jones, Koivuniemi, Allen and
Belmonte also have won at least two majors among their total titles).
When a player achieves both title and years of membership requirements, he is
automatically put on the PBA Hall of Fame ballot. Scroggins, Goebel and Hoskins
are currently on the PBA Hall of Fame ballot, which requires a candidate to receive
votes on at least two-thirds of ballots cast for election to the hall of fame. Voters
include existing PBA Hall of Famers and a panel of veteran bowling writers and
industry leaders.

It really wasnt about Losch

and cancer, Tackett said. Losch
is Losch. He doesnt change, but
when he got cleared to bowl, thats
what we wanted to do for him. To
get a win after what hes been
through really makes it special.
Loschetter, who earned his second PBA Tour title, also took it in
stride. He was diagnosed with testicular cancer just before the
GEICO PBA World Series of
Bowling VII in Reno last
December, had surgery, and
thought he was cleared until the
cancer resurfaced in his abdomen
during the summer. After another
bout of chemo, he was declared
clear in early October.
It definitely makes you appreciate life, the Avon, Ohio resident
said. Getting another title? Yeah,
thats cool.
The PBA Team Challenge is a
one-of-a-kind five-player team
competition for the sports most
talented players. It was conduct as
part of the South Point Bowling
Plaza Fall Classic.

In the first match in the twogame, total pinfall Baker format

stepladder finals, Merica Rooster
Illusion defeated Playin With
House Money (Josh Blanchard,
Dino Castillo, D.J. Archer, Shawn
Maldonado and Tom Daugherty),
508-488. The difference proved to
be Archers 10 pin in the eighth
frame, ending a deadlock when
Rooster Illusion closed the match
with six consecutive strikes.
Merica Rooster Illusion then
broke open a five-pin match with a
string of six consecutive strikes to
win the semifinal match, 482-452,
eliminating the highly-regarded
all-star team, One College POY
and You Know the Rest (Chris
Barnes, Bill ONeill, Tommy
Jones, Wes Malott and Jason
Belmonte). The POY team represented a combined total of 64
PBA titles, by far the most in the
entire 20-team tournament field.
PBA members then joined many
of the sports top amateur players
in the U.S. Open at the South
Point Bowling Plaza.

Yon Gyo Phark

Wins LIGBT
DEER PARK, NY - Yon Gyo
Phark, a 54 year old small business owner from Flushing, NY
won his first Long Isand
Generations Bowling Tour title at
the clubs inaugural event at Strike
10 Deer Park.
Yon Gyo defeated Hector
Perez, Whitestone, NY 251-226
to win the $2,000 top prize.
While Hector won $1,000 for
second,
Adam
DeRossi,
Massapequa Park, NY finished
third with a 213 worth $600.
Rounding out the top 4 was
Chris Werben, Brooklyn, NY,
with a 180 worth $400. The
incredible prize fund was due to
the $1,000 added by tournament
sponsor Realty Direct.
The final 4 shootout was actually the third round of a 16
bowler bracket. Yon Gyo was
giving everyone handicap as he
had the highest average of the 4
bowlers. He bowled consistently
all 10 frames as he was the only
bowler to throw a clean game.
Hector had a 17 pin lead in the
6th frame but when he opened
the next 3 frames, and Yon Gyo
doubled, the match was basically
over. Adam did make a late come
back with a double in the 8th and
9th frames but when he failed to
throw a strike in the 10th his title
hopes were dashed.

WORLD CUP
Continued from Page 1
The last time a woman from Sweden won the World Cup also was the
last time the event was held in China, as Asa Larsson hoisted the coveted trophy in Beijing in 1991.
Two keys to Wegners success were a ball change before the final
match, which she hoped would help her conquer the challenging left
lane, and focusing on some friends down-lane between frames to keep
her from thinking too much about the expansive venue or any poor shots
along the way.
Right now, I feel shocked, especially with how many great players
were here this week, said Wegner, who qualified as the No. 4 seed after
36 games at Haos Bowling, located on the ground floor below the
arena. I was a little nervous and unsure about bowling in the arena and
with all of the people, but it was a lot of fun.
Wegner failed to convert the 3-10 split early in the championship
match, but strikes in frames five through eight swung the momentum in
her favor, and she sealed the win with another strike to start the 10th
frame.
The first half of the mens final was a see-saw battle, as Hongbo and
Sloan both were plagued by splits.
A 7-8 split in the fifth frame and 4-10 split in the sixth frame turned
Hongbos early lead into a deficit, but Sloan couldnt capitalize. He left
splits of his own in the fifth and seventh frames, and it proved to be the
opening Hongbo needed to complete his historic run.
Hongbo closed with six consecutive strikes to claim his place in the
record books.
On the way to the final, Hongbo used the momentum of a five-strike
start to top Slovenias Anze Grabrijan, 234-200, while Sloan defeated
top seed Martin Larsen of Sweden, 188-165.
Sloan denied the Swedish representatives the chance to sweep the
World Cup titles. Sweden is the only nation to have accomplished the
feat, doing so in 1986.
Wegners path to the title first went through top seed Bernice Lim of
Singapore, whom she defeated 224-207. The two exchanged early open
frames before settling in, and Wegner was able to outlast the 2016
United States Bowling Congress Queens champion.
McEwan earned her meeting with Wegner with a 248-236 win over
Malaysias Syaidatul Hamidi, also throwing a clutch strike in her final
frame to escape with the victory.
The field at the 2016 World Cup included 81 men and 63 women, representing 84 countries, all of whom bowled 20 games over four days,
before the field was cut to the top 24 for eight additional games.
The top eight in each division then qualified for round-robin match
play, and 36-game pinfall totals, including 30 bonus pins for each win,
determined the semifinalists.
All competition leading up to the semifinals was held at Haos
Bowling, a 24-lane facility.

Fort Worths Kerry Fulford Earns 2016 PBA50

Dick Weber Sportsmanship Award
By Jerry Schneider - PBA
CHICAGO - Bowling in his
first season full-time on the
PBA50 Tour, 64-year-old
Kerry Fulford of Fort Worth,
Texas was selected as the
winner of the 2016 PBA50
Dick Weber Sportsmanship
Award as voted on by his fellow players.
Tom Carter (last years
Dick Weber Sportsmanship
recipient) told me that
receiving the award was as
good, if not better than winning a title, said Fulford.
Ive never won a title but I
would have to agree with
Tom on that.
Because of a bad back,
which was injured while
serving in the U.S. Army in the
mid-70s, Fulford has his good
and bad days on the PBA50
Tour.
I decided that I felt well
enough to go full time this
year, said Fulford, who has
bowled in PBA50 events since
2003. The best I can be is 90
percent. Its something I just
have to deal with. Just to be able
to be out here with all these guys
is great. Even though realistical-

ly I cant be competitive day-in

and day-out, I go into it thinking
I can win, otherwise, why show
up?
Despite his back ailment,
Fulford did throw a 300 game in
the
PBA50
National
Championship, the final tournament of the season.
Until I learned I got the (sportsmanship) award the 300 game
was probably the highlight of
the season and to do it in the last
tournament of the season was

extra special, said Fulford,

who began bowling in PBA
competition in 1986.
I learned early on how
important it was to be
respectful of everyone in the
sport, from the players, to the
fans, sponsors and proprietors. Without them we
couldnt do it.
Among other top vote-getters
for the award were Paul
McCordic, John Dudak,
Warren Burr and Sam
Maccarone.
The
Dick
Weber
Sportsmanship Award is
named after the late PBA Hall
of Famer who among his
many accomplishments in the
sport won 30 PBA Tour and
six PBA50 Tour titles.

Justin Milligan Tops Youth Travelers

By Vince Albrecht
MONTVALE, NJ Justin Milligan didnt reach 600 as his teammates
did, but his second game 261 was the sessions top single and jumpstarted Holiday II to an early season high-water mark 913 net as the
quartet outslugged Montvale 18-14 in the Stan Niemiec Youth
Travel Leagues highest scoring match of the day. Helping Justin
pound the maples for the victors were Jared Duncan 218-236-212666, Rachel Duncan 213-222-200-635 and Devin Crowley 234612.
Montvales high rollers exploded for a league best 2591 net, just
shy of averaging 216 for the set. 13-year-old Joseph Hammer
Mahoney led the barrage by hammering [sorry, couldnt resist that]
the pin deck with 221-258-216-695 followed by Henry Tipping
213-228-203-644, Ryan Kitz 211-211-212-634 and Matt Russell
223-208-618.
In an engaging face-off, Bowler City II closed with a flurry to
overtake Hi-Tor I, 19-13 [2810], despite the concerted efforts of
Brandon Smith 244-249-237-730 [the days top threesome], Johnny
Toscano 226-207-210-643 and Matt Cona 212. Paramus Catholic
junior Vicki Vucak led the scoring for BC II with a 206 single.
Defending league champ Bowler City III overwhelmed T-Bowl,
21.5-10.5 behind a strong showing from Nathan Tombo 238-214224-676, Tiffany Sucero 249 and Peter Bondy 212; pacing the TBowl squad was 14-year-old Tom Luchetta with a middle game
204.
Fueled by triple deuces from Nick Cilento 241-211-212-664 and
Alex McGuire 210-222-203-635, Holiday I fired nine 200s in its
23-9 triumph over Hi-Tor II. The other big games for the winners
came from Frank Magyar 211-219 and David Neil 213. Rolling
well for Hi-Tor II were 15-year-old Nicole Cona 243-612, 13-yearold Isabella Palamaro 214 and Tappan Zee H.S. sophomore Vinny
Avallone 202.
Bowler City I powered its way to a 2410 net in outscoring Lodi,
20-12. Keying BC I was talented Dumont H.S. senior Kyle
Schellberg who lifted his average to 228 with a sterling 232-259673. Contributing as well were Kristen Kane 211-215-622 and
JonMikal Sepero 222. Lodis impressive finish earned them eight
of their twelve points. Hawthorne H.S. senior Madison Perry found
her timing after the opener and closed with 229-243-637 while
anchor Steve Plaszky, also a Hawthorne senior, chipped in with
211: 597.
