Headteacher's Message
Welcome to our second half term and we hope you had a good
break last week. November and December are always busy
months for schools and we are planning our Christmas activities
already. Please see the dates and times on the back of this sheet
for the variety of activities we will be providing.
It has been good to see parents regularly attending learning cafes
for the different year groups and we ask that you continue to
support your childs education by signing up to attend Parents
evening which will take place next week. Please see the sign-up sheet on the doors of
classrooms or contact the school office to make an appointment.
The staff in the school are focusing on your children making good progress in reading,
writing and maths. We are undertaking lots of developments in these areas. We want
to be able to show that our children can achieve the standards expected for their
age. As a school, we find that we have groups of children who are achieving below
this level and it is very important that we work together to help your children to
achieve their potential. We will share important information with you at parents
evening about how well your child is doing in school and any help they require.

CLASS 4

Important note: Please do not bring dogs onto the school premises, even if they are
carried. This ensures that we help any staff members or children with pet allergies.

For achieving the

highest class

Please also note that the start of school is at 8.55am. This means that children
should be in their classroom ready to learn by this time. Children need to be here by
8.50am so we can start learning as soon as possible.

attendance of

The main gate will be now locked from 9.05am to ensure site security and any
children arriving after this will have to enter through the front entrance and will be
marked as slightly late. Our gates are opened at 8.40am to allow plenty of time for
children to arrive.

Our value for the half term is Peace. Within this we are looking at hope, reverence
and respect for one another. The children will also focus upon the Christian faith this
half term as we draw near to Christmas and explore themes and meanings around
the Christmas story.

PARENT REMINDERS - Please remember to phone the school office 01553 772420 if your
child is absent from school for any reason.
Snack monies payable for all of this term will be Rec/Yr1/Yr2 5.25
KS2 Yr3, 4 5 and 6 will be 8.75 please note we only take snack money on a Monday morning.

Pupil Attendance - September 2016

Please find below our letter regarding pupils leave of absence from school this gives information as to
our attendance procedures.
We will be closely monitoring the attendance of all children in school starting this term. The Governments target for every child is to have 96% attendance throughout the school year.
Any child currently in school who has an attendance of 95% or below parents will be sent a letter and an
appointment time to come into school to discuss improving the overall attendance with Mrs Smithee,
Deputy Headteacher.
Dear Parent/Carers

2nd November 2016

Attendance at School and Legal Intervention

You will be aware that the law requires all parents/carers to ensure that their child attends
school regularly.
Research has shown that children often do not catch up on work missed, which can have serious
consequences for their learning and progress. The Government is very clear that all schools
must aim to have the highest attendance possible for all of their pupils in order for them to
achieve their maximum potential.
To catch the reader's attention, place an

interesting sentence or quote from the story

here.

The Local Authority has introduced a system where any pupil who has an attendance of 85% or
less with at least 15% unauthorised absence over a 6 week period or 10 consecutive sessions
unauthorised absence will meet the criteria for legal intervention which could be in the form of
a Fixed Penalty Notice.
From September 2016 any pupil at St Michaels Academy who meets either criteria, will be referred to the Local Authority for action to be considered.
If a Fixed Penalty Notice is issued it is a fine of 60 per parent per child which must be paid
in one payment in 21 days, if unpaid a further invoice for 60 per parent per child is issued,
both individual invoices would then have to be paid making a total payment of 120 in 28 days
Failure to pay the total amount within the timescale will result in legal action being taken.
Our aim is to ensure that our pupils receive the most from their education and I hope we can
count on your support in this matter.
Yours sincerely

Mrs E Scarisbrick
