American History Through Music

Multi-Genre Project
Instructions:
Genre can be defined as a category of artistic compositioncharacterized by similarities
in form, style, or subject matter. First we will look at what genres are available to choose from.
After you have chosen your genres for your project, you can pick an American based band/artist.
Pick a group or someone you like a lot as you will be learning about, talking about, reading
about, writing about, and listening to them a lot.
Once you have chosen a group/artist you will brainstorm ideas for each genre (example:
Rolling Stones - Genre: Schedule - recreate a set list from a concert they might have performed).
You need to create an overall style for your project. The style should reflect the time period and
artist, along with your own personal taste. Make notes on how you will fit the style with each
genre (example: Rolling Stones - theme: literal rocks, magazine font/color/style, tongue logo,
British flag). You can get really creative! Think outside the box (a poem doesn't have to be
written on paper).
