Introduction

Introduction
- Important: This document is intended only for persons with advanced networking
experience.
This document provides the general information needed to configure the Rimage Server (the PC
that is physically connected to the Rimage autoloader) and client applications to process orders
on an existing network. The most common networking scenarios are described in this guide.
The Rimage Messaging System communicates order requests, completion notices and error
messages. The system uses a Messaging Server that forwards the orders to the Imaging and
Production Servers. The Messaging Server runs on the Rimage Server. All client applications and
Production and Imaging Servers must have access to the Messaging Server. The source files
and the Rimage System Folder must be accessible by the clients and the Rimage Server for the
system to work.

files for both Share and NTFS security permissions.

110721_H

Prerequisites

# Tip: The Rimage

software license allows

you to install multiple
client applications in the
building where the
Rimage autoloader is
located.

Share permissions and user accounts

Ensure that:

Share permissions, NTFS file level permissions, and user

accounts are properly configured when client applications
are added to remote computers. Specific information for
each scenario is provided throughout this document.

User accounts running QuickDisc Multi-Platform have read

access for both Share and NTFS security permissions.

Note: By default, Windows XP Professional applies readonly access on shares when they are first created.

Rimage System Folder

Ensure that the Rimage System Folder is:

Shared.

- Important! The RimageServices user account and

users running QuickDisc Multi-Platform must have Full
Control share access and NTFS permission.

Accessible to the Rimage Server and client applications.

The Rimage System Folder holds all the files required for
an order.

- Important! Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2

blocks all unsolicited incoming IP traffic as a default.
Open the port used by the Messaging Server.

Ensure that Rimage Messaging Server and Rimage Bridge

Server are operating on the network.

- Important! Rimage recommends only one Messaging

Server and one Bridge Server to operate on the
network if orders are to be submitted to any Image or
Production Server.

Rimage Advanced Setup Guide

Setup scenarios
This chapter includes example setup scenarios. Some scenarios change the location of the
Rimage System Folder and the location of the client applications. Other examples have multiple
Rimage systems on the same network.
If you are adding a new Rimage Server that has the Rimage Messaging System to a network that
has a Non-Messaging System, Rimage recommends upgrading the Non-Messaging Server to the
latest software version.

If orders are submitted using the QuickDisc application on the Rimage Server, the Rimage
system will function correctly out of the box; otherwise, you must create a user account on the
File Server.
Use this procedure to create a user account.

- Important! In a workgroup environment, the RimageServices account must be created on

every computer that will be interacting with the Rimage system.
1. To create a user account on the File Server, enter information in the following fields.

Username RimageServices

Password password (unless you have changed the default password)

2. Share the source files located on the File Server.

clients; however, you will need to use the root account to modify the HOSTS file. See page
18 for information about how to modify the HOSTS file. Modifying the HOSTS file only works
when NetInfo is not used to configure the network settings.
