-What surprised me was the fact that if their income was doubled, they would
still remain in poverty.
2. Go to the Poverty Map. It is under the Learn About the State of Poverty
tab.

-The South

-It has around 13-15% while the surrounding areas are below 11%

-47 million people live in poverty.
b. How is the poverty rate changing? How about the number of people
living in poverty?
-It is changing by 2.3% higher in 2008 than 2007. The rate changes but
the number of people in poverty don't.
c. Which groups are hit hardest by poverty?
-Single moms are hit the hardest.
d. Are the percentages of men and women living in poverty the same?
-No, 13% of men live in poverty while 16% of women live in poverty.
e. Which minorities are most likely to experience poverty?
-Black people are more likely to experience poverty.
f. What is your income, before taxes, if you work full-time at a minimum
wage job?
$7.25 an hour.
g. What is the poverty threshold for your family in letter f?
-It depends on how many people are in your family.

-You can educate yourself and listen to real stories from people who have lived in
poverty and choose to be a person to help those who need. You can also donate
your time and money to help others.

6. Write your reflections on what you learned in this exercise.
-From this exercise, I learned that poverty is more than just people living on
the street. It effects people of all backgrounds, places, and ethnicities. Poverty
is an issue that could be solved easily if each and everyone took the time to
help those around us.
