Year 1 Fertiliser Plan for Rose Garden

The fertilizer program for the rose garden at Jirrahlee Botanic Garden outlines applying a fertilizer with 9% nitrogen, 3% phosphorus, and 9% potassium from late July to late February. The fertilizer should be applied three times during this period to each rose bush by handfuls around the root zone. The fertilizer should be watered in and mulch added after the first application in spring. Personal protective equipment including dust masks, gloves, overalls, and work boots should be worn when applying fertilizer. The goal is to improve flowering and eliminate yellow leaves.

Special Notes:
1. Commercial rose fertilisers are usually used. No preferred brand - buy on price and

as stated above. Trace elements should be applied in small quantities.
2. Check application rates with manufacturers label or directions for correct information.
3. Mulch could be general prunings that have been put through the chipper. However, pea
straw or mushroom compost is better (but its expensive so, check budget before
ordering in).
