In the
movie Hunt for the Wilderpeople, Ricky Baker and his foster uncle, Hector, find the true
meaning of family as they take an amazing journey through the New Zealand bush.
Hector is a dynamic character because Hector starts to accept Ricky, Hector becomes
more open, and he accepts Bellas death.
Hector starts to accept Ricky. For example, even after becoming very wanted by
the police, Hector doesnt give up and let Ricky end back up in foster care. At first when
Ricky runs away and Hector finds him Hector just wants to get him back into foster care
as soon as possible but eventually he decides to runaway with Ricky. Also, Hector
allows Ricky to call him uncle. In the beginning Hector was totally against Ricky calling
him uncle but after their adventure with each other Hector becomes okay with the title.
Not only does Hector have accept Ricky, he has to accept the fact of his wifes death.
In addition, Hector accepts the death of his wife Bella. For example, he doesnt
avoid talking about Bella or hide his feelings about her death. After she died he was
very cold and distant and wouldn't have brought her up but after he loosened up if
something reminded him of Bella he would talk about or say stuff like Bella wouldve
liked this etc. Another example is he isnt angry when he finds out Ricky took Bellas
ashes on their adventure. Hector wasnt very sentimental with the ashes; he didnt want
to do what Bella wouldve wanted to do with them and put them in a box. But when
Ricky pulled her ashes out of his bag he had a different attitude. He was very okay with
the situation instead of getting upset or angry. Not only does Hector express feelings
about his wifes death, he also becomes more open with other things.
Lastly, Hector becomes more open. For example, he stops being so serious and
angry. In the beginning of the movie he was a very grouchy and angry old man. But
once he started to let loose and open up he became a happier/ more free person. Also,
he starts talking more. Along with being serious and angry in the beginning, he was also
quite quiet. But that all changed when he broke down his walls and opened up.
