Excel Module 10

Victoria analyzed data from an assessment given to her class. She found that the majority of students failed the assessment with an average grade of 67%. Students performed better on addition problems than subtraction. Several individual questions also had low correctness rates, indicating those areas need to be revisited. The wide range of grades from 40% to 100% shows the material was not effectively taught to all learners. While a few students excelled, most results show the class is not mastering the subject well and Victoria needs to provide extra support on certain topics to improve student understanding and outcomes.

Victoria Ashnault Excel Report 3/30/17

The data I have entered into Excel for my class tells me a lot about my class as a whole
and individually, but it also tells me what I am teaching well and not so well as a teacher. By
creating the bar graph from the results of my students, I can quickly see that the majority of my
students have failing grades on this assessment. As a whole, the average for my class was a 67%
which to me, tells me that I did not teach this subject well if the majority of my students did not
do well. The students on this assessment did better on the addition problems compared to the
subtraction problems. This tell me as a teacher that we need to go back and spend more time on
subtraction. The results from the individual questions, tell me that I need to revisit the material
for question number 1, question number 3, question number 5, question number 11, question
number 14, and question number 15. Only 31% of students got question 5 and 11 correct, which
tells me as a teacher that I did not teach it well or I need to go back and teach it a different way
for them to understand it better, or the question itself is worded weird. As a whole group, I would
say the class is not doing well on this subject. The overall average was a 67% which is not a
passing grade. The range of grades were from as low as a 40% to a perfect score. That is a wide
range of grades, which tells me that the topic was not covered well enough to all different types
of learners. 6 out of the 16 students obtained a failing grade, that is too many failing grades for
me personally. However, some students did do very well. On this assessment, I had five students
with an 80% or above and one student got a 100%. The student who got a 93%, which was the
second highest grade, missed the first question which has a 56% of correctness. With that being
said, I may need to revisit this question with him personally because he excelled in all of the
other questions. This student also got all of the subtraction problems correct, the one question he
missed was addition, this makes me think its possible that he made a silly mistake or went too
fast. I had three students score an 80%, and all three of the questions they missed were different
between the three. There were three students who gained a 100% in just the addition problems.
And four students who gained a 100% in just subtraction. I had one student who got a 40% and
missed questions 7-12, so he may need a little extra help in the topic that was covered in those
six questions. Another student, missed questions 2-7, which tells me he also needs a little extra
help in those areas.
