OPERATOR INSTRUCTIONS
Under normal operational conditions the Voyage Data Recorder will not
require any operator actions once it has been switched on.
1. MEU INDICATIONS AND OPERATOR CONTROLS
1.1 Switching on
Turn the Key Switch Clockwise. The System will boot-up.
Normal indications are:
Front Panel Power on LED
Switch Hub Power on LED
Port 1 Spare
Port 2 Spare
Port 3 Green LED Radar Acquisition Interface
Port 4 Green LED HVR Capsule
Port 5 Green LED Audio & Data Acquisition Interface
The Port LEDs will flicker; this is normal for data transfer activity.
1.2 Push to save data
Holding this button for 10 seconds will save the last 12 hours or more of
information to the hard drives. The DATA then can be downloaded onto a
Laptop or PC through the LAN as soon as practicable. This can be done
only once. The data must be downloaded immediately as if there is
another incident and the SAVE function is used again it will delete any
data that is older than 12hours.
1.3 Push to cancel alarm
Push for one second to acknowledge and mute the audible alarm.
The visual alarm may remain active.
1.4 Switching of
Turn the key to the vertical position. The audible alarm will sound and the
ERROR led will flash. The audible alarm can be muted. The system will
take approximately 45 seconds to de energise the relays and remove the
power.
1.5 Battery UPS
Normal indications are: Green Battery Trickle Charge (Normal)

NOTE: When the system is not in use i.e. Docking Period you must switch
of the UPS internally to help prevent battery discharge.

2. KW950-T TEXT DISPLAY and REMOTE ALARM
The Unit displays status messages from the MEU (see table below) and will
also indicate the reason for an alarm. As a remote unit you can cancel the
alarm and mute the audible alarm.
AMI-GFV MARINE VDR First display on Power Up
VDR TIME 12:34 UTC System Time as received from RAI.
May indicate this for a few minutes after YOU know a fault exists.
NO ALARMS DETECTED
The VDR does not want to raise unnecessary alarms.
AUDIO TEST 111 111 Indicates the status of the last Audio Test

3. MAINTENANCE
3.1 Weekly
MEU Ensure the POWER ON LED is on and the Switch Hub shows activity.
KW950: The Status Display cycles through the various Messages.
UPS: Ensure indictor lights are in operation
Check vent is clear
HVR: Clean the ends of the Dukane Beacon and check for corrosion.
3.2 Annual Certification Check
The following will be conducted by an AMI Authorised Inspector/Engineer.
Power Supply Alarm Check
Reserve Power Source Check
Reserve Power Source shut down Check
Battery Expiry Dates
Acoustic Beacon
Physical Condition of Equipment
Interfaces: Operation and recording

4. FAULT DIAGNOSIS
4.1 Loss of Power.
Test Equipment:
- Digital Multimeter.
Test Cables:
NONE
Reset-able fuses protect the VR2272 system from overloads.
1. Ensure the system key is switched of i.e. in the vertical position.
2. Open the door of the Main unit and remove the cover to the FM-INT
unit. Remove the 24V Supply SK1.
3. After 5 minutes restore the 24volt Supply SK1 and replace the FM-
INT cover.
4. Switch system on and return to normal status.

4.2 AUDIO Alarm.
Test Equipment:
NONE
Test Cables:
NONE
Activate the Audio test by pressing the Test Button. This will complete after
approximately 3 minutes. If the alarm is still present check the relevant
microphone and replace if necessary.
4.3 RACOM FAIL Alarm.
This indicates that there is no status data being sent from the RAI.
Check all connectors are fully pushed home.
Test Equipment:
- SVGA Monitor
- USB Mouse
- Digital Multimeter
Test Cables:
NONE
Fault Correction:
Connect SVGA monitor and USB mouse.
1. Check 24v DC on RAI SK2 If not present check cables and output
from MEU
2. Remove SK2 until all RAI LEDs are extinguished.
3. Replace SK2 and RAI should boot up
4. If no display then replace motherboard.
5. If the RAI boots up but cannot find HDD or the Operating System
then replace the HDD.
6. If the RAI boots up into Windows then starts the FMRFG and
NMEAPro111 programs.
7. If after a short time a window appears and states FMRFG has
generated and Windows will close the program. The FMRFG program
has lost communications with the HVR capsule.

5 VDR: Data Recording Check & Data Download:
Using a laptop and the procedure described below, Access the
SAVE01, SAVE02,SAVE03, SAVE04, & SAVE05 partitions of
the Hard Drive and confirm that current data is being written.
1. Ensure the Workgroup is named WORKGROUP. Create user on a Laptop
PC with the name xxxxx (uppercase) and password xxxxx
(lowercase)
2. Now change the Network Card properties by the following examples.
Right click on My Network Places and select Properties.
3. Right click on Local Area Connection and select Properties.

4. Left click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and select Properties.

6. Select Use The Following DNS Server Address

Restart the Computer for the new settings to apply.
7. Right click on My Network Places and select Search for Computers.

8. Insert 192.168.0.3 where it asks for a Computer Name.
8. Navigate to D drive (SAVE01). This is the first partition in which data
and audio is stored. Search through this partition, then E (SAVE02), F
(SAVE03) , G (SAVE04) and H (SAVE05) until the required files are
located.
Files are named: TYP DATE TIME. ZIP
For example SND-20052003-124600.ZIP
VDR-20052003-124600.ZIP
RFG-20052003-124615.ZIP
The date and time shows the time at which recording was started. The
Audio and Data files are saved in 60 second blocks, the Radar Capture
files are saved on completion of the frame grab, once every 15
seconds. Therefore the above examples will have recorded the data and
sound at on the 20/05/2003 and the Radar Frame Grab was recorded
12:46 and 15 seconds.
9. If the SAVE button was held on the VDR front panel then the required
files will have the file extension Filename.ZI~ instead of Filename.ZIP
10. Use the Copy / Paste commands to obtain the required data. Once
data has been copied to the laptop remove the Ethernet cable and
close the MEU door.
11. Provided the above procedure is followed the system will continue to
operate without being disturbed.
**NOTE**:
Usernames and Passwords will be advised when and if required.
