Presentation 2

The document discusses different types of geometric transformations including rotation, reflection, translation, and dilation. It provides definitions and examples of each transformation. Interactive online resources are listed that allow students to practice applying transformations to two-dimensional shapes on a coordinate plane. Examples and practice problems are given to help students differentiate between transformations that preserve congruence from those that do not.

Transformation project

Myrna Urieta
TEKS
Two-dimensional shapes. The students applies mathematical process
standards to develop transformational geometry concepts. The student is
expected to:
(A) generalize the properties of orientation and congruence of rotation,
reflection, translation, and dilations of two-dimensional shapes on a
coordinate plane
(B) differentiate between transformations that preserve congruence and
those that do not
Transformation
Function which map points of a pre-image onto its image.

Translation
A function from the plane to the plane such that the image of the point with
coordinate (x.y) is (x+a)(y+b) where a and b are real numbers
Example translation

Reflection
An image or shape as it would be seen in a mirror
Example of
reflection

Rotation
A central point that stays fixed and everything else moves around that
point in a circle
