Design of Roller Bucket

The document provides design details for a roller bucket at a hydropower project. It includes parameters such as maximum flood level, tail water level, spillway crest level, discharge rate, width of overflow, depth of flow, Froude number, radius of bucket, and bucket invert level. Hydraulic model tests are recommended whenever sustained operation near limiting conditions is expected, discharge per foot of width exceeds 500-600 cubic feet per second, velocities entering the bucket are over 75 feet per second, eddies may form at spillway ends, or waves in the downstream channel could be a problem.

Hydraulic model tests be performed whenever:
(a) sustained operation near the limiting conditions is expected
(b) discharges per foot of width exceed 500 to 600 c.f.s
(c) velocities entering the bucket are over 75 feet per second
(d) eddies appear to be possible at the ends of the spillway
(e) waves in the downstream channel would be a problem.
