Emergency - Exposing the duplicity of Senior leaders of RSS
Prime Minister Indira Gandhi after she received an unfavorable decision by
Allahabad High Court.
Allahabad High Court ordered all privileges Indira Gandhi received as an MP be
stopped, and that she be debarred from voting. This was because Raj Narain her
political opponent , had filed a petition with Allahabad High Court that she had
misused the State Machinery to fight elections.
However, she ignored the High Court decision and was determined to continue as
Prime Minister. The next day, Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Narayan organised a Large
Rally in Delhi, where he said that a police officer must reject the orders of
government if the order is immoral and unethical as this was Mahatma Gandhi's
motto during the freedom struggle. Such a statement was taken as a sign of inciting
rebellion in the country. He along with Acharya Kripalani and Congress (O) chief
Morarji Desai called Indira Gandhi's led Congress government as dictatorial and
corrupt.
The next day Prime Minister Indira Gandhi requested a compliant President
Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed to issue a proclamation of a State of Emergency. Within
three hours, the electricity to all major newspapers was cut and the political
opposition arrested. Thousands of innocent people were detained without any
proper charges taken up against them.

RSS mobilizes Rank and File
After declaration of Emergency by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi which came into
effect on 25 June 1975, Senior RSS Leaders mobilized their Rank and file.
Junior Leaders of RSS and Bharatiya Jan Sangh activists fought Emergency like it
was 2nd Freedom Struggle.
They started networking with each other , and publishing counter-propaganda
RSS activists defied the ban and thousands participated in Satyagraha against the
ban and against the violation of human rights. They also formed underground
movements for the restoration of democracy.
They collected funds for the movement, clandestinely published and distributed
literature that was Censored by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi led Congress party
Government.
Tens and thousands of RSS cadres across the country coordinated with each other
and established networks to coordinate underground movements for restoration
democracy.

But behind the scenes, Senior Leaders of RSS and Bharatiya Jan Sangh had actually
BACKED former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's decision to impose an Emergency
in 1975.

.In a piece for the Hindu newspaper, dated 13 June 2000, a fortnight
before the 25th anniversary of the Emergency, Swamy claimed then
RSS chief Balasaheb Deoras and former Prime Minister AB Vajpayee
betrayed the anti-
Emergency movement by writing letters of apology to Indira Gandhi.
Swamy is now a member of the BJP's national executive.In the piece,
Swamy wrote, It is on the record in the Maharashtra Assembly
proceedings that the then
RSS chief, Balasaheb Deoras, wrote several apology letters to Indira
Gandhi from inside the Yerawada jail in Pune disassociating the RSS
from the JP-led movement and offering to work for the infamous 20-
point programme.
She did not reply to any of his letters. (The 20-point programme and
Sanjay Gandhis five-point the Congress regime cited to justify the
imposition of the Emergency, in its endeavour to regenerate
India.).Indira. Gandhi,
however, replied to Vajpayee, who, Swamy claimed, too wrote
apology letters to her. In fact for most of the 20-month Emergency,
Mr. Vajpayee was out on parole after having given a written assurance
that he would not
participate in any programmes against the Government, Swamy
declared.It seems the two werent the only luminaries from the RSS
who apologised to Indira Gandhi, precisely the reason why Swamy
thought it was ludicrous of the BJP to celebrate the 25th anniversary
of the anti-Emergency movement in 2002. He even recommended to
readers that they thumb through Akali leader Surjit Singh Barnalas
book which provides vivid description of other erstwhile Jan Sangh
worthies who chose to walk out of prison on promise of good
behaviour"
Stories about RSS chief Balasaheb Deoras apologising to Indira.
Gandhi have always been in circulation. It has been reiterated, once
again, in senior journalist Coomi Kapoors recent book, The
Emergency: A Personal History. Kapoor is Swamys sister-in-law.In the
chapter, 'Swamy on the run', Kapoor says, Ironically, Balasaheb
Deoras, who was put in jail, did not play such a heroic role. From
prison he sent several letters to Indira Gandhi praising her leadership,
and these were perceived as a form of apology and a plea for pardon.
This echoes Swamys allegation made in The Hindu in 2000.
Between 1975-77 the Emergency period, most of the Senior leaders of the Senior
Leaders of RSS and Bharatiya Jan Sangh had betrayed the struggle against the
Emergency. Senior RSS Leaders supported the Emergency. They were not
opponents.
Former Intelligence Bureau (IB) chief TV Rajeswar, Senior Leaders of RSS behind
the scenes had established a link with the Prime Minister's house and expressed
strong support for several steps taken to enforce order and discipline in the
country. They also conveyed they would secretly support the Congress Party in the
Post-Emergency General elections."
According to him , this means that in 1977, when the Senior leaders of RSS and
Bharatiya Jan Sangh, were openly and publicly ,issuing statements against Indira
Gandhi and Emergency , their cadres were forcefully fighting Indira Gandhis
Emergency openly fully trusting their RSS leaders , But senior Senior leaders of RSS
and Bharatiya Jan Sangh, were discreetly on Indira Gandhi's side.
To all Indians, Senior leaders of RSS and Bharatiya Jan Sangh, behind the scenes ,
secretly supported the CORRUPT and AUTHORITARIAN Indira Gandhi
Government.

In an exclusive interview with Karan Thapar on India Today TV To
The Point, Rajeswar said that RSS chief in 1970s Balasaheb Deoras
had supported Indira Gandhi over some measures taken by her
during the Emergency.
Rajeswar revealed that Deoras "quietly established a link with the
PM's house and expressed strong support for several steps taken to
enforce order and discipline in the country. Deoras was keen to meet
Indira Gandhi and Sanjay. But Gandhi refused." He added, "RSS had
specifically conveyed its support to the Congress in the post-
emergency elections."
This means that in 1977, when the Jan Sangh as part of the Janata
Party was fighting Indira Gandhi, the RSS, its parent organisation,
was discreetly on Indira's side.
