DEATH IN BLOOM

EXT. SAMS GARDEN- DAY
Montage of quick shots showing SAM prepping a plant
SAM (VOICE-OVER)
Plants are pretty much my only friends. I
say this because a lot of the good things
that have happened to me so far in my life
have been caused by plants.

Long shot of SAM standing and looking out over his garden.
EXT. FLIGHT OF STAIRS- DAY
SAM walks up the flight of stairs, carrying a large plant
top. He pauses, leans the pot on the side of the stairs, it
becomes unstable and falls.
SAM
OH SHIT.
SAM (VOICE OVER CONT.)
And though it didn't seem like it at the
time- this was the best thing that ever
happened to me.

30 SECS OF ACTION WITHOUT DIALOGUE

INT. SAMS BATHROOM- DAY


SAM turns around to face MARA who is standing behind him.
MARA
Boo.

5 SECS OF ACTION WITHOUT DIALOGUE


INT. SAMS LIVING ROOM- DAY
MARA is standing with one hand in one pocket at the bottom
of the stairs, levitating a ball up and down beneath her
hand. Sam is hiding behind the wall at the top of the
stairs.

MARA
It's okay- you can come down- I won't hurt
you.

SAM's P.O.V shot looking down at MARA who grins up at him


I'm over haunting you anyway.

SAM and MARA are sitting at the living room table opposite
each other. A series of extreme close ups of their faces
and the plant. A circular tracking shot around the table
ensues.
SAM (SOUND BRIDGE)
So you dont remember anything?
MARA
Nothing.
SAM
. . . Nothing at all?
MARA
I dont know what to tell you. I just woke
up in this house and
I think it had something to do with a
plant.

SAM

(Shock)

What?!

Close up shots of the characters faces and the plant pot.


SAM
I mean- what makes you think that?
MARA
I dont know... maybe it had something to
do with the chunk of plant pot in my
skull?

I've been thinking and . . .
What if Im here to find who killed me?
You know in films? When they have
unfinished business? Does that sound as
that crazy as it does in my head?
SAM
(Nervously laughs)
Pretty crazy.
Shot of Mara leaning out of the kitchen door.
MARA
Can I borrow this?
EXT. GRAVEYARD- DAY
SAM and MARA walking through the graveyard. SAM kneeling in
front of a grave (his mother's grave).
SAM (V.O)
I know it's been a while mum but I don't
know who else I can talk to.
EXT. ROAD- DAY
SAM and MARA walking across street, couple see only him,
react.
SAM (CONT.)
I've met this girl-but it's not like that.
She's-
MARA (CONT. SENTENCE)
-dead cool, right?
INT. SAM'S KITCHEN- NIGHT
SAM and MARA in kitchen.
SAM (CONT.)
She doesn't know what I know... what she's
trying to find out.
INT. SAM'S CUPBOARD- DAY

MARA scaring SAM.
SAM (CONT.)
And Im scared shell leave if she does,
but I like having someone around
INT. SAM'S KITCHEN- DAY
SAM watching MARA outside in the garden, looking at the
plant that killed her.
SAM (CONT.)

Even if shes not really here.


INT. SAM'S LIVING ROOM- DAY
MARA opening horticultural book.
MARA
What's the deal with you and flowers
anyway?
INT. SAM'S BATHROOM- DAY
MARA finds purple rose in bathroom.
SAM (V.O)
I like how temporary they are. No matter
how much-

INT. SAM'S ROOM- NIGHT


SAM and MARA lying on his bed.
SAM (CONT.)
sunlight or water you give them one day
they'll die. I think there's something
comforting in that. Nothing, not even the
most beautiful of things, lives forever.
EXT. GRAVEYARD- DAY
MARA leaning on grave, talking to SAM.
MARA
What you doing- talking to more dead
people?

INT. SAM'S HOUSE
SAM's title screen.
SAM (V.O)
Its funny. I don't think I was really
living until I met you.

FEW SECONDS OF NO DIALOGUE


INT. SAM'S BEDROOM- NIGHT
Their hands intertwine in the air.
MARA (V.O)
You should try it more.
SAM (V.O)
What?
MARA (V.O)
Living.

TITLE SCREEN
EXT. GARDEN- DAY
MARA is pushing a rifle into SAMS arms, trying to get him
to shoot her as fun. He keeps refusing, not taking the
situation seriously. After having enough, he suddenly
shoots her. MARA then appears behind him. Dialogue is
mostly ablib.

MARA
Come on! Just do it!
SAM
Stop it! Im not doing it!

MARA pulls trigger without warning, she is wounded on the


ground, SAM hesitantly leans over her.

SAM
Mara?

MARA suddenly appears behind SAM.

MARA
(grinning) Nice shot.
