This document lists the governors of Indian states and lieutenant governors/administrators of union territories as of October 2017. There were 28 states each with its own governor, and 7 union territories with either a lieutenant governor or administrator. Some governors also held additional charge over other states. The governors represented the union government in their respective states while lieutenant governors and administrators performed similar roles in union territories.
