MUSIC FESTIVALS IN ROMANIA
UNTOLD (Cluj-Napoca)
Untold is the biggest electro-dance music festival, in Romania, that takes place each year, in
Cluj-Napoca.The event features many genres of music, such as: electronic, live acts, dance &
trance, house-techno or drum & bass. Last year, it was its 2nd edition and the 4 days of festival
(4 7 August) brought 5 EDM
headliners (7 expected this year) , such
as Armin van Buuren, Hardwell,
Tiesto, Martin Garrix and Dimitri
Vegas & Like Mike along with other
international artists: Faithless, Kwabs,
Ella Eyre, James Arthur, Afrojack,
W&W, Ummet Ozcan, Lost
Frequencies, Borgore, Rudimental DJ.
Besides them, there were also some
underground romanian artists:
Subcarpati, Argatu, Macanache, CTC. Martin Garrix even said that he is counting down the
days until his next show in Romania.
The price for the access at the Untold event which took place on 7 different stages ( Ursus
Untold Arena, Galaxy, Alchemy, Daydreaming, Forest, Stormkeep and Citadel ) was 324 lei (540
lei for the VIP ones), last year.This year, if
you visit their website, you are welcomed
with the message The stars have spoken.
They are 7. And they are coming. .
In 2015, it attracted peoples attention
with their Transylvania-related Pay with
blood campaign, which offered the blood
donors a 30% discount for a ticket. Same
year, Untold was designated Best Major Festival, during the European Festival Awards.
ELECTRIC CASTLE (Cluj, Bonida, Banffy castle)
Electric Castle is a unique festival experience that takes place on the amazing domain of Banffy
Castle, in Transylvania. It shakes up the way
people interact with a festival by combing
an eclectic musical lineup with arts,
technology and a visually innovative
concept. With over 120.000 participants,
who paid the price of 319 lei (general
access; 9999 lei-backstage access ) to
attend the event, the festival raised
Bonidas population by 6 times, from 13
17 July.
Although the amount of precipitation went beyond the annual limits, participants kept coming
towards Bonida, even at 3AM, in order to listen to their favourite artists, such as: Sigur Ros,
Camo&Krooked, Pan-Pot, Elliphant, Alternosfera (alternative rock), Bastille (indie rock), Bring Me The
Horizon (deathcore), oOoOO and Skrillex who holds the world record for most Grammys won by an
electronic dance music artist (8). The event included 8 stages, including the castle itself.
The Banffy castle was built between the
XIV XV centuries and an amount of the
money gained from selling the tickets are
donated for its restauration. Amongst the
activities that the participants couldve
attended, there were: an open tour of the
national Circuit of Volleybal, VR games,
hot air balloon flights, helium karaoke,
treasure hunt, flight simulator, escape
rooms and even yoga classes.
SUMMER WELL (Bucharest, Buftea)
Summer Well , the annual festival like
a holiday, takes place every 2nd
weekend in August and gathers 10
artists, creating an indie atmosphere for
which the participants pay from 195 lei
to 300 lei ( for general access ).
In 2016, the first day began with the
psychedelic pop sound with U2 and
Bruce Springsteen influences from
Sundara Karma and the folk and electro-
rock artist BRNS, which were followed
by The Neighbourhood, the alternative rock band which reached number one on Billboards
alternative chart ( with Sweater Weather ). In the second day, Hlos with an electronic and trip-hop
sound appeared on the stage, along with the evenings highlight, the band Years & Years, which
thanked the public for the best concert of the summer.
The atmosphere was completed with
many more activities to be a part of, such
as rowing, inflatable labyrinth, VR games,
stands with temporary tattoos or relaxing
areas like a pop-up cinema, pop-up yoga
studio and water projections. The festival
can also be called a food court, for the
numerous stands with their on-the-spot
prepared food.
