BASIC REQUIREMENTS FOR PART I EXAMINATION

A. The candidate must be:


1. a Filipino citizen
2. a Graduate of a recognized Medical School
3. Duly licensed to practice medicine in the Philippines
4. a Graduate of a PBOG- accredited Residency Training Program in Obstetrics and
Gynecology of at least four years (or a 6- year modular residency training
program)
5. an Associate Member desiring Diplomate status
6. a Candidate who availed of the moratorium (1985-1998) but did not succeed

B. The candidate must submit the following:


1. Duly accomplished POGS application form (in duplicate), with 2 passport size
pictures and endorsement signatures of 3 POGS Fellows
2. Official documents (photocopy)
a. Medical Diploma
b. Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) License
c. Certificate of PBOG Accreditation for Residency Training during the
candidate’s period of training
d. Certificate of Training and Rotation duly signed by Department Chair or
Hospital Director or Certificate of Associate membership (if applicable) or
PBOG certification of examination results during the Moratorium.
e. PBOG certification of in-service examination results (issued to training
hospitals) during the Moratorium (if applicable)
f. One (1) Case study and one (1) scientific paper
3. A compilation of 100 major cases in Obstetrics and Gynecology (combined)
performed within 5 years prior to application (whether during or after residency)
and reported as follows:

FOR CASES DONE DURING RESIDENCY:

A. Submit a typewritten tabulation of the 100 cases in the format specified by


the PBOG, arranged according to type of procedure and using uniform and
standard nomenclature
B. Submit a separate typewritten tabulation (in the same format as item 3a)
for the 35 cases prescribed by the PBOG as minimum requirements for
residency training specifically.

Details of these 35 cases must be typewritten in the PBOG official form distributed as
follows: Twenty four (24) cases transfer of technical responsibility and Eleven (11)
cases applicants own cases. Each case must be accompanied by a legible photocopy of
the following: patient data sheet, operative record, operative technique (typewritten),
stamped “Certified True Copy” and histopathology report (if applicable) from the Record
Section. In case original operative technique was not typed, include photocopy of original
record.

C. Submit an Original certification from, the department Chair of Hospital


Director attesting to the authenticity of cases reported and managed by the
candidate.
D. In case were technical (surgical) responsibility has been entrusted to the
candidate, original certification letter from the attending physicians must
accompany the report of cases. Starting 2006, only 70% cases with transfer of
technical responsibility is allowed.
E. Computer generated case report forms will be allowed.

FOR CASES DONE AFTER RESIDENCY:


Submit a typewritten tabulation of cases, separate from those done during
residency. Reporting of cases shall follow the same specifications in items 3a-3e.

4. Photocopy of one (1) case study and one (1) scientific paper

C. All requirements specified under item B must be compiled in sequence and


arrangement specified by the PBOG, and properly bookbound.
D. Cases submitted by the applicants are considered final. Applicants will no longer
be called to correct their deficiencies in the submitted requirements, case
discussions and operative techniques.
E. All candidates must apply for the Certifying Examinations, pay the necessary fees
and fulfill all requirements prior to the announced deadline.
F. Candidates who fail to appear on the date of examination must inform the PBOG
Secretary immediately to clarify requirements for the next examination.
G. Application fee will be forfeited if the applicant withdraws at anytime.
H. If the candidate is not allowed to take the written exam for a valid reason, the
application fee may be used the next time he/she applies provided he/she takes the
exam the following year.
I. The submitted requirement shall be considered POGS property and will no longer
be returned to the applicant.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR FOREIGN-TRAINED CANDIDATES

A. The candidates must have satisfactorily completed training in an institution


duly accredited for OB-GYN training by its Specialty Certifying Board at
the time of the candidate’s training, and whose standards are acceptable to
the Philippine Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (specifically USA, UK,
Australia, Japan, Singapore, Thailand, Hongkong, Malaysia, Indonesia,
Taiwan, India, Canada and European developed countries).

Documentation Requirements:
1. Photocopy of Certification of Accreditation for Training by
Specialty Certifying Board for the duration of the candidate’s
Training.
2. Photocopy of Certificate of Completion of Training.

B. A candidate who passed the Specialty Board examination in the country of


training, and is therefore considered a Diplomate of that Specialty society,
is automatically qualified to take the PBOG Diplomate Examination Part I
provided the basic requirements for examination are satisfied.

C. A candidate who has not been deemed Board Certified by the Specialty
Certfying Board of the Country of training must submit the following
documents, subject the approval by the PBOG.
1. Photocopy of Residency Training Program (with residency Requirements
and Competencies) during the candidate’s training, duly certified by
Department Chair of Hospital Head.
2. A record of 100 major Obstetrical and Gynecological cases performed five
years prior to date of application (regardless of place of performance):
a. The cases must be typed and tabulated in the standard
Table of Contents in chronological order.
b. Details of these cases must be typed in the PBOG Official
Form for cases.
c. All cases must be accompanied by:

c.1. Photocopy of patient data sheet, operative record,


typewritten operative technique, (authenticated/stamped
“Certified True Copy” from Record Section and
histopathology report (if applicable)
c.2. Original copy of certification by Department Chair or
Hospital Director where operation was performed.
d. Computer generated case report forms will be allowed.

D. The candidate must comply with the Basic Requirements (Item A, B, F, G)


for Diplomate Part I Examination
E. The standard requirements for Diplomate Part II (Oral) Examination are to
be followed.
F. The Practical Examination is optional, subject to the discretion of the Board.
RE-EXAMINATION

A. All candidates legible to take the written examination must apply prior to
the stipulated deadline.
B. Those who failed to appear on the examination day should write the PBOG
Secretary to remain eligible for the next year. Examination fee will be
forfeited if the applicant withdraws at anytime.
C. A Candidate who failed in the Diplomate Part I (Written) Examination must:
1. attend a postgraduate course:
First time: one postgraduate course (at least 25 CME units)
Second time: two postgraduate courses
Third time or more: four postgraduate courses
2. submit a Certificate of Attendance in a comprehensive postgraduate course
in OB-GYN and subspecialty postgraduate courses (Oncology,
Endocrinology & Perinatology) within the preceding 12 months prior to
application.
3. submit 10 new varied major cases done within the last 2 years prior to
application if the candidate has decided to take the examination after three
(3) years.
D. A candidate who passed the Part I (Written) Examination but failed to take
Part II (oral) Examination within five years shall be required to take Part I
again and submit 10 varied major OB-GYN cases done within two years
from application.

5. tabulation of thirty five (35) cases (residency requirements)
6. PBOG Official Form for cases (with 3 cases logged-in per page), each to be
followed by corresponding Operative record, operative technique and histopath
result (if applicable) of the 3 cases logged in.
7. Photocopy of Case Study
a. One Scientific Paper
b. One case study
