A good listener should be patient, clever, attentive, thoughtful supportive and helpful.

It means that there is nothing better than listening to the wisdom of others in order to increase
your own.

To listen carefully and understand the message correctly.

The factors that cause poor listening skills to develop are distraction, interruption, reacting to
emotional words, lack of interest, disagreement with the speakers and passive listening.
5-Mention some steps of effective listening.
(How can you establish effective listening and communication?
We can establish effective listening and communication by Listening between the lines, by not
judging before we comprehend by listening openly to others and by not interrupting the
speaker.
6-Mention some essential factors for healthy communication?
The essential factors for healthy communication are Healthy relationships, whether it is at an
interpersonal or organizational, acquiring good listening skills, being aware of the potential
for defensiveness and making the adjustments needed during the conversation.
7-Why is empathy an essential factor for healthy communication?
Because it enables us to share feelings or experiences.
8-To have good communication you should .
be good listener and have understanding with people.
9-What are the four barriers to effective communication?
The four barriers to effective communication are poor listening skills, improper use of

manner. Explain.
We write letters to translate our feelings and thoughts into a written form.
11-There are many types of letters. Mention Two.

formal letters (For all official and formal situations.)
12-What are the two main writing formats? What are the differences between them?
- Formal: In business letters, formal language is used and Informal: In personal letters
language is informal.
13-What information should be included in a letter of application?
The certificate, day and date of birth, place of residence and current position.
14-Why do you think people still write traditional letters?
I think people still write traditional letters because not everyone in the world has access to a
computer
and To Some people , The internet and sending e-mails are an abstract technology that does
not relate to their everyday lives.
15-What is different about the language of a formal letter?
It is very polite, it is a formal language and punctuation should be correct.
16-What qualifications should a person have to get a good job?
To get a good job, a person should be good at speaking and writing English, have experience
and know how to use computer and internet.
17-Where can you find a job advertisement?
I can find a job advertisement on the net, On the TV and in newspapers and magazines.

Yes, because the computer already combined people and the world has become small, therefore
they need a single language to be able to communicate and exchange ideas.

7. How is the Arabic alphabet different from the Roman alphabet?
Arabic: writes from right to left and contains 28 characters.
Roman: writes from left to right and contains 26 characters.
8. Why is the Arabic alphabet important?
- It is the second most widely used alphabet, it is used for writing the Quran and it is the basis
of many other languages like Malay, Persian, and Urdu.
9. In what way is Arabic writing like the Chinese?
It is a precious art form and it is a practical method of communication.
10. The Arabic alphabet is the basis of writing for some other languages. What are these
languages?

11. Chinese writing system is very difficult .Why?
Because every character represents a word so you have to know thousands of characters to
master it.
12. Why were the pens invented by Laszlo and his brother an instant success?
Because they used quick-drying ink and were stronger than normal ink pens.
13. Why were the first ballpoint pens expensive?
Because they used an expensive technology.
14. What is so distinctive about the Bic pens?
- They were meticulously designed and cheaper than their American counterparts.

15. How does the ballpoint pen work?
When the ball moves across a piece of paper, it revolves in its socket and thus transfers quick
drying ink onto the paper.
16. Why cant ballpoint pens write upside-down?
Because the ink needs gravity to move down the ball.
17. How do you think the development of computers will affect peoples use of pens, pencils
and paper?
Pens and paper wont be used anymore and messages will be sent by e-mails.
18. The pen is the tongue of the mind. Discuss this statement.
The pen is the aid of the tongue that can record thoughts and ideas and keep them to be used
again.

Mobile phones are for making calls, for playing games, for listening to the news and for taking
pictures.
4. Are you for or against giving mobile phones to children? Why?
For: To ensure that your children are safe wherever they go.
5. What are the most common uses of mobile phones for College students?
College students use mobile phones to contact their parents, to chat with their friends or to plan
days out.
6. What are the most common uses of mobile phones for parents?
Parents use mobile phones to check on their children and to call for help in case of emergency.
7. What are the most common uses of mobile phones for people in business?
To schedule their daily agenda and to communicate with staff and clients and to send and
receive e-mails.

Hypertext Markup Language: a way of marking text so that it can be seen on the Internet.
11. What does PDA stand for?
Personal Digital Assistant (= a small computer that you can carry with you)
12. What do you predict mobile phones will be like in the future?
They will become the ultimate remote control of our life or what is called teleputer.They will
be lighter, smaller and smarter.
13. What new functions do you think future mobile phones would be able to do?
I think future mobile phones would be able to identify their owners, give health or safety
guidance, draw cash from banks or settle payments in supermarkets and may provide multiple
video or audio conferencing.
14. How have mobile phones developed since 1980s?
- In1980s the first generation mobiles appeared (Large car Phones), in 1990s the second
generation mobiles appeared (smaller and digital). In 2000s the third generation mobiles
appeared (cameras - video and internet access)
15- What do people do with their old mobile when they buy a new one? Give two possibilities.
- They give it to a friend or a younger sibling, they may return it to the shop, they throw it
away. or hand it to a recycle point.
16- Why is it a good idea to recycle old mobile phones?
To clean, repair and reuse them and of course it's less harmful to the environment.
17- What are the advantages and the disadvantages of giving your old mobile to a friend or a
younger sibling?

The phone will be used again. It could be misused.
It is a good gift. People may call old phone numbers.

Prevents waste. Recycling facilities can be hard to find.

To go along with the latest technology.
