1. A renowned constructions company has been building quality dwellings of all varieties. The
management & the owners of the company were very keen for ISO certification. The consultant's
quality auditors found their procedures quite efficient & documentary proofs were available of
customer satisfaction as regards the past work. The site engineers were very efficient & appeared
to be the backbones of the established customer satisfaction. The auditors even found this fact by
interviewing the customers. It was found that even small request by customers like opening of the
bedroom windows on a different wall to avoid the scene of adjoining slums used to be taken care
of by the site engineers with out the help & intervention from design cell at the corporate. The
auditor finally concluded that management policy of satisfied customers, was being met
judiciously, however the certification was rejected. Guess the clause under which this could have
happened giving correct reasons for the same.
2. An ISO certified company involved in automobile service & repair activity was giving
satisfactory service to its customers. In a particular year during premonsoon rush the purchase
manager in order to cope up with the heavy workload of the shop floor, ordered rubber bushes on
a party famous for fast supplies. The purchase order used to carry part codes & name of the items.
The part codes were generated by the design department based on certain predefined
specifications. This supplier who was unaware of the part code but knew the item well, supplied it
in time. The use of this part did not give any apparent problem to the shop floor personnel. Upon
checking up with the junior purchase staff it was informed that the PO's were released under the
purchase managers signature only for all cases of repeat orders barring those meant fro
developing new items. Do you suspect any non-conformance in the system?
3. A computer manufacturing company's procedure states that shop floor rejected component should
be collected in a box marked "REJECTS" & the quantity posted on a Register daily. After it
exceeds 50 nos., a team consisting of Shop Floor In-charge, IQA In-charge & Stores In-charge
inspect to review the rejects & decide its disposition as the scrap, rework or use with concession.
The auditor has observed the quantity in the box is less than that indicated on the register on a
particular day. On enquiry, it was reported that due to urgency some components were used after

rework / reconditioning without evidencing the record. State the details of non-conformity against
which clause & what can be the agreed corrective action to stop the N.C.
4. A Company’s procedure says that certified welders should be utilised for a certain job. Five
welders were certified .On a particular day, due to absenteeism and excess work, the department
has utilised the services of two other uncertified welders. Do you see the possibility of any non-
conformance here? If yes, under what clause & why?
5. Current test record of a company could not be produced to the Auditor on demand during an audit
as the same was taken away by a Service Engineer for investigation. No receipt or letter was
available. Do you see the possibility of any non-conformance here? If yes, under what clause &
why?
6. The Contract Review procedure of a company producing standard product on mass scale states
that Marketing Manager is responsible for the review and maintenance of records. No format has
been prescribed. While some Contract Review records were available, some contracts/orders were
endorsed “Reviewed - ok”, while some others had no notation. Marketing Manager assured that
all contracts were reviewed and executed satisfactorily. Does such a situation a good reason for a
NC? If yes, under what clause & why?
7. ABC Company produces food products having certain shelf life. Procedures say that expired
products should be weeded out periodically. Auditors observe over–aged packages in stores.
Stores In-charge told Auditors that they were busy and weeding out would be done soon. Do you
see the possibility of any non-conformance here? If yes, under what clause & why?
8. XYZ company’s systems have been sending out employees for training programmes annually.
However, there was no laid-down procedure for the same. HODS have been deputing personnel
for training programmes randomly. Do you see the possibility of any non-conformance here? If
yes, under what clause & why?
9. A Certain Test Requires application of a correction factor, which is given in a specification kept
with Document control wing. The technician noted it in his diary and was using it. Do you see
the possibility of any non-conformance here? If yes, under what clause & why?
10. A Company manufacturing liquid chemicals requires it to be filled in drums where upon the Batch
No. is stencilled. A certain buyer sent his own tanker, which was filled and no Batch No. was
marked. Records show “ABC customer–bulk supply”. Do you see the possibility of any non-
conformance here? If yes, under what clause & why?
