Beam Design 1st Floor A-B-4

This document summarizes the design of a reinforced concrete beam with a depth of 500 mm and width of 350 mm. Key details include: 1. The beam is designed to resist a maximum moment of 236.73 kNm and has a concrete grade of M25 and steel grade of Fe500. 2. Reinforcement is designed for various sections along the beam length. At the left end, 4 bars of 20mm diameter rebar are required at the top and 2 at the bottom. 3. Shear capacity is calculated as 91.82 kN and shear reinforcement of 2 legs of 8mm bars at 100.53 mm2 is provided to resist the remaining shear of 64.34 kN.

BEAM :First Floor C23

Materials:
Concrete grade : M25
Steel : Fe 500

Size of beam:
Overall depth of beam (D) = 500 mm
Width of beam (b) = 350 mm
Effective cover (d’) = 50 mm
Effective depth (d) = 450 mm
fck =25N/mm2
fy = 500 N/mm2
Xumax = 0.46*450
= 207

For rectangular beam design:

Limiting moment (Mul ) = 0.36*fck*b*Xumax*(d-0.42*Xumax)
= 0.36*25*350*207*(450-0.42*207)
= 236.733 KNm

From, IS CODE 13920: clause 6.1.2

b/D>0.3
350/500=0.7
Hence OK.
From, IS CODE 13920: clause 6.1.4
D<L/4
L= 5.1816 L/4=1295.4 mm
D=500mm
Hence OK.
From, IS CODE 13920: clause 6.1.4
b>200
b=350mm
Hence OK.

For the left end of the beam:

From SAP, Mu = -164.2832 KNm &97.81 KNm
For Negative moment:
i.e., Mu = -164.2832 KNm

For Negative moment:

i.e., Mu = -164.2832 KNm
Mu <MulSo,singly reinforcement is to be designed.
Calculation of Ast:

Mu=.87*fy*Ast*(d-Ast*fy/(fck*b))
On calculating ,
Ast= 955.074 mm2
No. of Bars= Ast/Ast = 20 mm

Provide 4T20

Check for Min. & Max. Reinforcement:

Min. Reinforcement : (CL26.5.1.1a)IS456:2000) From IS13920, CL 6.2.1b)

As/bd=0.85/fy Asmin.= 0.0024*(fck/fy)^0.5*b*d

Asmax.= 2.5%of bD
Asmax.= 0.04bD Asmax.= 4375 mm2
= 7000 mm2 OK
For Positive moment:
i.e., Mu = 71.584 KNm
Since, Mu<Multhe beam is singly reinforced beam
Mu = 0.87*fy*Ast*(d – (Ast*fy)/(b*fck))
71.584*106 = 0.87*500*Ast*(450 – (Ast*500)/(350*25))
On solving above equation we get,
Ast = 384.46 mm2

No. of Bars= Ast/Ast

Now provide 2 – 20mm φ

Since, Ast,min<Ast provided <Ast,max (OK)

For mid span of the beam:

From SAP, Mu = 47.4212 KNm
Since, Mu<Mul the beam is singly reinforced beam
Mu = 0.87*fy*Ast*(d – (Ast*fy)/(b*fck))
47.4212*106 = 0.87*500*Ast*(450 – (Ast*500)/(400*25))
On solving above equation we get,

For right end of the beam:

From SAP Mu = --156.249 KNm & 62.2403 KNm
For Negative moment:
i.e., Mu = -156.249 KNm
Mu <Mul So, singly reinforcement is to be designed.
Mu = 0.87*fy*Ast*(d – (Ast*fy)/(b*fck))
-156.249*106 = 0.87*500*Ast*(450 – (Ast*500)/(350*25))
On solving above equation we get,

62.2403*106 = 0.87*500*Ast*(450 – (Ast*500)/(410*25))
On solving above equation we get,
