What is Java and why do I need to install it on my computer?
Java allows users to play games, view images in 3D, and use interactive simulations (What is
Java?, 2015).

Installation steps:
1. Click on the following link to go to the Java download page:
https://www.java.com/en/download/
*Be sure to open the link with Internet Explorer or Firefox. Java is not compatible with
Google Chrome.
2. On this webpage you will click the large red button that says “Free Java Download” (Free
Java Download, 2017). See the image below:

3. On this webpage, the recommended download version will be listed. You must agree to
the sites terms to start the download. Click on the large, red rectangle that says “Agree
and Start Free Download” (Download Java for Windows, 2017). See the image below:

4. A dialog box will prompt you to run or save the file. Select run to download the file now.
Select save to download the file at a later time.

5. After a few moments the installation process will begin and a dialog box will appear. If
you accept the license agreement, then click the “Install” button on the bottom, right
corner.

6. The next dialog box will prompt you to set Yahoo as your homepage and default search
engine. If you prefer not to use Yahoo, then select the button next to “Do not update
browser settings”. Then click the “Next” button on the bottom, right corner.

7. The file will now begin to download. A status bar will appear showing the progress of
the download. When the download has completed the last dialog box will appear
stating that “You have successfully installed Java”. Click the close button in the bottom,
right hand corner.
