Control Matlab

The document describes designing a controller C(s) for a plant model G(s) = a/(s+1+p) where 1 ≤ a ≤ 10 and 0 ≤ p < 1, such that the closed-loop step response falls within the envelopes 1 ± e-2t. The tasks are to determine a and p, design the controller using techniques like root locus, and demonstrate the response satisfies the constraints through MATLAB simulation. A 1000 word report is to be written with sections on aims, design, results, discussion, and conclusion.

An engineering plant can be modelled and the transfer function can be expressed as

𝑎
𝐺(𝑠) =
𝑠+1+𝑝
where, 1 ≤ 𝑎 ≤ 10, 0 ≤ 𝑝 < 1.
You are requesting to design a suitable controller, 𝐶(𝑠), that with unity negative
feedback, the closed-loop system’s time response under a unit step input will fall
within the two envelops, 1 ± 𝑒 −2𝑡 , as shown in the following graph.

Tasks:

1. Determine the value of 𝑎 and 𝑝, as well as the controller and demonstrate

using MATLAB that the response satisfy the constraint.
2. Explain the design of the controller, and the techniques used e.g. root-locus,
etc.

Report is around 1000 words, the structure of the report is suggested as:
1. Aims and objectives
2. Controller design
3. Simulation results
4. Discussion and analysis
5. Conclusion
