CHAPTER I

1.1 Introduction

The study of absenteeism is very important for any universities colleges, schools. The

word absenteeism means the absence of students from class when he is scheduled to

be present at university or school.

When teacher has no information in advance, that the student will not reputed for

class if he has taken leave to which he is entitled or on ground of sickness or in case

of accident. Thus absence may authorize or unauthorized willful or caused by

circumstance beyond teacher’s control.

Absenteeism from lectures by the students appears to be a serious problem that seems

to transcend and defile all the strategies by the university authorities and lectures

efforts to curb it. Investigators reported the magnitude of this phenomenon and its

consequences on the students immediate academic achievement and future application

of skills since students are active participants in their learning experiences and must

take responsibility for achieving their potentials through successful completion of

each stage of their studies, it is common therefore to see many universities coming up

with various measures to ensure students attendance at lecture in accordance with

commitments to encourage and help the students to achieve their potentials to the

maximum capability in their studies and in developing lifelong skills and

competencies. Attendance is a key component is students.

for lecturers (Lalek ,1995 & Rumburger 1997)

-students get tired because of their lifestyle, by wasting time not to do their

school activities and wasting their time doing not important things and not focusing

on their school performance.

attendance or absenteeism is closely linked with good student health thus resulting to

higher academic achievements.

A. SUMMARY

Absenteeism has disadvantages, lifetime disadvantages and negative effects.

Nothing could be more important to a student future than a school education. Yet few

students of Alicia National High School miss out through prolonged absences from

school, their parents unwilling or incapable of ensuring they attend.

Some students don’t attend to school commonly because they are bored or

they don’t like the subject or teachers, and some student are addicted to online games

which they do all night instead of doing their assignments or project, some students

chooses to go up all night visiting their social media.

Because of social media and online games, some students can’t focus on their

They are busy with their phones, laptop/gadgets.

Their adviser will be held responsible on taking to the student parent.

Absenteeism is a termite your dreams/goal in life is a durable wood. Absenteeism

will make your dream weak and soon might destroy it.

the negative effects, disadvantages and consequences of their act. We can

also talk to their adviser either. So that their advisers will be held
