Under A Penny Recycling Centre is now closed

We want to thank Trowelex very much for providing a great building for this recycle shop.
This store has served the community Of Castlegar and area for three years providing free
(by donations) clothing, household goods, books and a happy environment for socializing.
We all feel so sad about this recycling centre closing. A lot of families
have come to depend on this place to help them out in hard times.
This wasn’t a store in the normal sense –all items were free and
if the person wanted to donate, that would be up to them. The
donations covered the utilities, garbage bins, snow removal and
Trowelex took care of the rest. The majority of items donated were
of wonderful quality and quite suitable for reuse or repurposing.
If there is an organization that is interested in sponsoring us,
we would like to continue to save valuable products from the

Hugh L. Keenleyside Dam

Due to construction site safety requirements, there will be restrictions to public access of
Hugh L. Keenleyside Dam’s navigational lock viewing area during upgrades to the dam’s security
gates. We anticipate access to the viewing area to be restricted from June 11th until early July.

During the project, there will be no restrictions to boat traffic through the Navigation Lock.

Two alternate viewing areas off Broadwater Road continue to allow observation of boats entering or
exiting the navigation lock on the east and west sides of the dam.
