everyday lives should be brought into the education of our future. Not only will it further engage
students, but it will provide educators with more resources to further individualize education to their
Before integrating technology, we taught a way and believed it would work for all students.
Exposure to certain content when taught a certain way was sure to teach all students. However,
“Every student learns differently, and technology allows educators to accommodate unique learning
styles on a case-by-case basis” (Zoë Bernard). We can take the concepts we would like students to
learn, and format it countless of different ways such that it is appropriate for each individual student
to learn it appropriately. You could create a puzzle, a word search, quizzes on things like quizziz, or
even a textbook for those who like to read. There are many ways learning is more individualized
with technology.
Not only does technology provide access to more information and ways to further engage
your students, but it also provides access to assistive technology. Students can easily write
responses with talk-to-text on the computer, or they can view the PowerPoint you are showing to the
class on their individual computer. They can use headphones to listen to audio if they cannot read.
There are many ways that technology can provide assistive technology to those students in need.
In conclusion, there are many ways that technology is useful to education. Not only is it
beneficial to the educator, but it provides more ways than ever to keep students engaged. It also
can provide access to plenty of assistive technology resources that many students could use to be
successful. Technology is very helpful and should remain prominent in the classroom.

Identification of Standards (Local)
In 2010 Nevada created the Nevada Computer and Technology Standards for Classroom
Technology Integration for the 21st Century. In this document, there are separate sections
highlighting certain standards. The national standards are listed with the state standard following.
Above in the grade at which certain standards must be addressed. This one focuses on 1. Creativity
4.Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, and Decision Making, 5. Digital Citizenship, & 6. Technology
Operations and Concepts. All of these sections ensure you meet the National Indicator and help the
These standards “are designed to empower student voice and ensure that learning is a
student-driven process” (ISTE). There are 7 separate sections with indicators that help measure
student success. These sections are 1. Empowered Learner, 2. Digital Citizen, 3. Knowledge
Global Collaborator. These standards ensure that teachers are incorporating the essential resources
all across the United States of America to promise an educated future for the country.
Differences
Although ITSE has more indicators, the Nevada Computer and Technology Standards are
more thorough, having grade level indicator specifying what should be completed when per state
indicator. Both are incredibly useful to ensure student success. In my lesson plan below, I will be

of tools and methods to create collections of artifacts that demonstrate meaningful connections or
conclusions.

5-LS2-1 Develop a model to describe the movement of matter among plants, animals,
decomposers, and the environment.
Objective:
Student will create a website dictating the movement of matter among four different areas:
Materials:
Computers
Wix.com
Procedure:
First, we recap what we have learned. How does matter move among different stages of life? Ask
students to discuss it with their partner. They should talk about food chains, producers, consumers,
decomposers, and how they are all tied to the environment. After they discuss, they should get out
their computers. Go to wix.com and press sign up. Students will enter their email twice and create a
password. After they create the account, it will ask you to build a site. This will show up and fill in th
blanks as such.
It will have two options—ADI, or template.
Choose ADI
It will then ask what you want to create the site for. Type: Science School Project. It will ask a few
other questions—themes, color schemes, etc. Students can customize it how they want. Skip any

Once complete, press the square to preview then publish the site.
Have them name their site with their first and last initial, then sciencefoodchain
Once complete, students can share their sites, present it to the class and discuss what they learned.
