Although generally classified 2s an “axial” skin flap, the underlying axial vessel, the
angular artery, is rarely included with the flap itself. The flap is usually based on
perpendicular branches of the angular arvery that course through the muscle and
into the overlying skin.

‘The angular artery is the terminal branch of the facial artery. Itascends lateral to the
nose and up to the medial aspect of the orbit where it runs in the fibers of the levator
labii superiorisalzeque nasi. It is accompanied by the angular vein, It will eventually
form an anastomosis with the infraorbital artery and branches of the ophthalmic
artery, the dorsal nasal arteries.
