Park Elem en tar y

IMPORTANT DATES: A Note from Mrs. Heerema:
Fri. Dec. 14 Early Release 12:15 PM
Dear Parents,
Fri. Dec. 21 Holiday Parties
(check class newsletters for times) I have been in education for many years and been a part of lots of lovely
holiday programs but this week Tuesday's program was definitely a
Dec.21-Jan.6 Winter Break favorite. As the new principal, this was a wonderful display of all the
reasons I wanted to be part of Park Elementary. Teachers, support staff,
students, families and community members all came together to celebrate
the season and spread holiday spirit. The students were so proud. There is
nothing better than seeing those beaming faces up on the stage. Thank
you to each and everyone of you for your support of our school and I wish
all of you a joyful holiday season.

As a way to celebrate the coming holiday break, we are going to have a

Holiday Spirit Week next week. Please do not feel you need to purchase
new items for your child to wear! We want this to be a fun and easy way
to celebrate the week.

Monday: Wear cozy hats and scarves

The high school store Eagles Tuesday: Wear your favorite flannel / comfy shirt
Landing once again is donating Wednesday: Wear your PJ's
a gift basket to Park Elementary Thursday: Wear fuzzy, fun socks
to be won by a lucky Park Friday: Wear red and green
Student. The basket includes
gift cards, Hudsonville apparel,
Happy Holidays Everyone!
and other fun items. Park will
draw a name on Dec.19! The
basket is on display in the office
if you want to take a peek.
Good Luck!

Notes from Steam:

In STEAM, students are learning how to use the design process as they ask questions and design solutions to problems! We
work each day in cooperative groups. Working in groups is not always easy, but we are continuing to strengthen these skills.
Kindergarteners are zooming into their bodies to learn about the form and function of parts of their body. First graders are
finishing up their Scratch Jr. projects where students use their coding skills to map out their very own storyline. Second
graders just began a new module on States of Matter after using what they learned about erosion to help prevent a landslide.
Third graders continue to learn about simple machines, and they are building compound machines with our Vex kits. Fourth
grade is finishing up a module about the human brain while comparing the brain to computers. Mr. Bolhuis' fifth graders are
starting to build robots and the rest of the fifth graders are learning to code. We stay busy in STEAM solving problems and
working together!

BACKGROUND CHECKS

Please do a background check if you will be visiting or volunteering in your child's classroom. Starting in 2019 we will
request a reservation prior to class parties in order to check background entries. Thank you for your compliance. Here
is the link to fill out now if you haven’t already.

This includes grandparents!

Give Kids a Smile Day

possible if you would like your child to participate.

perfect Christmas gift for those people in your life that enjoy skiing and snowboarding. It's only $17 to join the club which can save you lots of
money at Bittersweet Ski Resort in Otsego, MI. The "club" part of this is really for middle & high schoolers, but YOU get the opportunity to take
advantage of the exact same savings. Here is out it works: You purchase a $17 pass and then it only cost you $17 for a lift ticket each time you
go. The normal lift ticket price is $38. So just going one time you have already saved money. Do you need to rent skis or a snowboard? Your

Baby it’s cold outside ………….

Cold weather and snow are coming! Your child is outside in the morning, and two recess periods. Please
remember to send them with proper attire. If your child does not come with boots and snow pants they must
stay on the blacktop the entire recess to stay dry. Also, please label everything! The lost and found bucket
grows considerably over the winter with unclaimed / unlabeled items.

GIRLS on the RUN: Online program registration for the girls will be offered starting November 1st! We will
also be holding registration open houses at select schools as in years past. Registration information and open
house dates can be found on our website. Click here for more Information.
