NEW YORK YOUTH SYMPHONY

FLUTE AUDITION PACKET

Please prepare the following excerpts (included):


1) DVORAK: Symphony no. 8, Mvt. 4, D to E (with all repeats)
2) DVORAK: Symphony no. 8, Mvt. 3, Opening to B
3) RACHMANINOFF: Symphony no. 2, Mvt 4, Opening to #59
4) RIMSKY-KORSAKOV: Capriccio Espagnol, Mvt. 4 Solo and Cadenza

In addition to the above, you will be asked to perform and


demonstrate:

1) Two solo works of contrasting styles, (please bring music to your audition)
2) Various techniques such as double and triple-tonguing
3) Scales
4) Sight-reading

NOTE: Flute players auditioning on piccolo must prepare at least


two excerpts from the above list (#1 and #4 compulsory, others
recommended but optional), and two solo works in contrasting
styles in addition to the excerpts on piccolo. It is not required to
audition on both flute and piccolo, but is recommended this
season.
