Pipeline Head Loss Calculation Process - Engineered Software Knowledge Base - Global Site

This document outlines the 9-step process for calculating head loss in pipelines transporting fluids. It provides an example problem of calculating head loss in a 50 foot long steel schedule 40 pipe with a 16 inch diameter transporting 4000 gpm of fluid. The steps include assembling design data on the fluid, pipe material, and valves/fittings; selecting engineering units; calculating the Reynolds number and relative roughness; looking up the Darcy friction factor; and calculating head losses for the pipe, valves/fittings, and total pipeline. The example works through some of the preliminary steps but does not show the full calculations.
