3.0 Production and Handling 3.1 Balder Oil Crude

The Balder oil field is located 190km west of Stavanger in the North Sea and was the first field developed using a permanent floating production vessel. Production started in 1999 with estimated reserves of 170 million barrels produced at a rate of 135 thousand barrels per day. The Balder FPSO vessel was constructed for production and storage, connected to 15 wells on the seabed, and has storage capacity of 380,000 barrels. The Curlew oil field is located 210km east of Aberdeen and began production in 1997 at a rate of 7 thousand barrels per day. Oil is exported via the Maersk Curlew FPSO vessel which has storage capacity of 560,000 barrels.

0 PRODUCTION AND HANDLING

3.1 Balder Oil Crude

Balder is the oil field under Exxon Mobile which is located in the North Sea where
approximately 190km west of Stavanger. Balder is also the very first field on the
Norwegian continental shelf to be developed by means of a permanent, floating production
vessel.

This field was established by authorities in 1996 and the production started in the
year October 1999. Recoverable oil reserves is estimated around 170 million barrels. The
current output of production is around 135 kbd of which Exxon Mobile markets is 40kbd.
The Balder bulk are located in license 001 (block 25/11) and Exxon Mobile is operator and
sole licensee. This bulk has an extension approximately 6x10 km with a water depth of
127m. The cargo size is about 500kb (“Balder Blend - crude oil | ExxonMobil,” n.d.)

The Balder FPSO is specifically constructed for production and storage vessel
which acquired from Smedvig during November 1995. This vessel is connected to 15
producers and injectors on the seabed. All of the 15 wells are drilled and completed by
using semisubmersible drilling rig. The storage capacity on the FPU is 380,000 bbls

3.2 Curlew Oil Crude

Curlew oil crude is oil field under Exxon Mobile which located 210km due east of
Aberdeen. This field began the production in 1997 and has fallen to about 7kbd of which
Exxon Mobile markets about 1kbd. The oil is typically sell to refiners in NW Europe on a
delivered basis with delivery option to US subject to transhipment at Nigg Bay or Scapa
Flow. The cargo size is 500kb.
