Narrative of Reading

Tuod Integrated School in Manticao, Misamis Oriental celebrated National Reading Month from November 27, 2018 in accordance with DepEd Memorandum No. 175. Activities included a mystery reader, literacy buddies program pairing older and younger students, a reading challenge between teachers, weekly book sharing, a book fair showcasing student and teacher writings, and a share-a-book activity. The school also held a "Help a Reader" program inviting parents and community volunteers to teach non-readers, as well as a parent symposium on the importance of reading at home. Finally, all students participated in a synchronized reading activity on November 27 at 9:00 AM to culminate National Reading Month.

In Pursuant to DepEd Memorandum No. 175, s. 2018 entitled “National Reading Month”
with this year’s theme Pagbasa: Susi sa Magandang Kinabukasan, Tuod Integrated School
celebrated the “National Reading Month las November 27, 2018. This activity aims to promote
love for reading, and to celebrate the diversity of learners and culture through reading.
TuodIntegrated School culminated with the synchronized story reading time last November 27,
2018 at 9:00 AM Philippine Standard Time (PST). Both elementary and secondary pupils and
students participated the said activity.

These were the activities that TIS done during the National Reading Month. The first
activity of the month was done by the school administrator, Alvin A. Sabayanan, Ph. D. He was
the mystery reader during the school’s flag raising ceremony, he reads the Filipino Story Book in
front of the children. There was a Literacy Buddies, a letter writing program wherein the grade 5
pupils were matched with the grade 6 pupils. The grade 7 pupils were also matched with the
grade 8 pupils. A reading challenge was also implemented between the teachers in the school.
There was a book sharing activity organized once a week to share the book read for the week. A
Book Fair was also organized that showcased story books written by the pupils/students and
teachers. The intermediate levels together with the grade 7 and 8 students and all the teachers
had their Book Fair in the school. There was a share-a-book activity, all learners, teachers, and
school administrator brought their own story books, there was a drop box displayed in the school.

Help a reader, be a volunteer activity was also implemented, the school administrator
invited parents and other community volunteers to help the non-readers succeed in reading.
Parents showed their willingness to teach children in school. Some of c taught children once or
twice a week for the month of November, the reading month. A symposium for parents and
guardians on the importance of reading to their children at home completed the “Reading Family
Activity”.

Finally, the “Araw ng Pagbasa Challenge” last November 27, 2018 at 9:00 AM Philippine
Standard Time, was successfully observed. This synchronized reading activity was participated by
all the learners of Tuod Integrated School.
