Introduction

I’d like to start with a thanks for downloading the

report: 111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-
Figure Income

By grabbing this eBook you’ve shown a lot of faith in

my ability to help you build a wildly successful
affiliate business.

Now before we jump into the strategies, let me go over

a few questions you might have:

 What is Affiliate Marketing?

Affiliate marketing is a business model that
thousands of people successfully use to generate
Internet income.

Here’s a quick explanation of how it works:

“An affiliate marketer is someone who promotes a product or service in

exchange for monetary compensation.

In a way, it’s like being an online salesperson. Your job is to convince a

person (or a group of people) that a particular product is beneficial. If they
make a purchase, you receive a sales commission.”

You need a website to be a successful affiliate marketer. There are a

number of options for doing this. So I recommend you check out the how to
start a website page if you don’t know how to do this.

 Who Am I?
My name is Steve Scott.

In all likelihood, you probably read something on my blog Steve Scott Site
which I started back in January 2010.

www.SteveScottSite.com 2
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

Or someone told you about this report and you decided to check it out based
on that recommendation.

Why am I qualified to write about affiliate marketing?

There are many answers to that question.

But I’ll give you two:

First, I’ve earned a full-time income from affiliate marketing since late
2006.

Simply put, I know what works and what doesn’t with this business because
it’s what I think about and do on a daily basis. (That’s kind of sad to admit.)

Secondly, I also know a lot about running an automated affiliate business.

Traveling is one of my passions. So I’ve engineered my business around

systems that run themselves while I enjoy life.

The income I generated from my affiliate business completely funded a seven-

month trip through Europe in 2010.

During this time, I only worked a few hours a week. Yet I still had money
coming in on a daily basis. This was all due to the systems I’ve set up for my
affiliate income.

 What Else?
Unfortunately there is no way to know your level of expertise with affiliate
marketing. You might be complete newbie. Or you might be more successful
than me.

So I’ve written this report to include both beginner and advanced affiliate
marketing techniques.

If you’re just starting out, then I recommend you check out my blog and the
resources I provide. These web pages can provide you with enough information
to start building a successful affiliate business.

If you’re experienced, then I’m happy to say you’ll learn a lot of advanced
techniques you might have never considered. Sure, you’ll know a lot of the

www.SteveScottSite.com 3
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

strategies that I discuss. But I urge you to read the entire report because you
WILL find lots of advanced information.

 What’s Included in this Report?

I’ve broken down this report into seven primary sections. This will make it easy
to find the content that’s specific to your situation.

Here’s what will be covered:

1. Affiliate Product Selection – How to find the most profitable offers to

promote
2. Niche Affiliate Sites – How to build small, but profitable, mini-sites
3. Authority Affiliate Sites – How to make long-term income from a single
web presence
4. Affiliate Email Marketing – How to use email marketing in conjunction
with an authority site
5. Affiliate Traffic Generation – How to get visitors and different ways to
promote a website
6. “Grab Bag” Affiliate Ideas – Miscellaneous ideas, “hacks,” and tips to
succeed with affiliate marketing.
7. Total Affiliate Business – How to run your affiliate business like a
Fortune 500 Company

There is an insane amount of information that’s covered in this report.

So let’s get to it…

www.SteveScottSite.com 4
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

#1 – Affiliate Product
Selection

I’m often asked: What’s the secret to a

full-time income with affiliate marketing?

My answer is Product Selection.

Really, your choice in a market

and what you promote will be the
difference between a little bit of money
and a six-figure income.

So yeah…product selection is kind of a

big deal. But you need to do more than
scan an affiliate network and look for a
“best seller.”

Your goal is to promote a product

that is these three things:

1. In a market that you find

personally interesting
2. Helps people solve their problems
3. Pays a sizable affiliate commission.

There’s a lot more that goes into product selection.

In fact, this entire section covers my “best practices” on this subject…

#1 – The Niche is Everything

Let’s start with simple clarification:

I believe there are two types of affiliate websites.

The first is the Authority Site where you build an audience around a tightly
focused topic. You will only have time to concentrate on one (maybe two)
authority sites because your goal is to build a fiercely loyal following.

www.SteveScottSite.com 5
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

The second is the Niche Site where you build a series of small mini-sites (or
pages.) You don’t worry about building a following. Instead all you care about
is to get people to take action on an affiliate offer.

My point is this… The amount of time you spend on niche selection depends
on whether you’re building an authority site or a niche site.

With a niche site you don’t have to obsess over the right market. A wrong
decision only means you’ve wasted a little bit of time and money.

But a bad choice with an authority website results in wasted months or even
years of your time.

To get started, you should pick a niche that has some competition…but
not TOO much.

Competition means there IS money being made in this market. This shows
there is potential for you to do the same.

My advice is to tightly focus on a small topic. You have to find a topic that’s
profitable without having too much competition.

For instance, let’s say you enjoy talking about finance. In all likelihood, you’d
get creamed if you opened up a personal finance website.

But you’d do well if you created a site for personal finance for female
entrepreneurs.

See the difference between the two?

Take time to think about picking the right niche. This will be the difference
between making a little bit or a whole lot of money.

#2 – Pick the Right Products

Choosing affiliate products is another “big deal.”

My advice is to closely examine your market. Find products that solve many of
their problems.

This sounds corny, but put yourself in the shoes of your prospects. Think
about what goes through their head...

www.SteveScottSite.com 6
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

What problems do they encounter in a given day? What would make their lives
better? What solutions are they desperately seeking?

Look for products that answer these basic questions.

To get started, here are some *types* of product that sell really well:

• Tools that save time or money

• Video courses with step-by-step instructions
• Audio courses that provide “on-the-go” learning
• Membership sites full of content
• Software designed for non-techie people
• Information courses that completely cover a small (but in demand) topic

You can easily generate a sizeable affiliate income by promoting the right
products to the right market.

It’s all about zeroing in on a market; finding out what they want; and then
tailoring affiliate recommendations on that need.

#3 – Promote Great Products

You don’t want to promote a product simply because it makes money.

That kind of strategy will only bite you in the ass.

Think of your audience first. When marketing an affiliate product, determine

the exact problem you’re trying to solve. This should be something that
troubles a large number of people in your niche.

The money should be an afterthought. What’s important is to recognize a need

in your market and offer a specific solution.

So only look for quality products.

Also, look at the income potential of the affiliate program. Make sure it
has these items:

• A high-converting sales page

• A sales funnel with upsells and/or back-end offers
• A responsive owner or affiliate manager
• Affiliate tools designed to help you make more sales

www.SteveScottSite.com 7
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

Your goal is to make as much money as possible. So it’s your duty is to find
that sweet spot of a quality site combined a high-converting sales page.

Analyze every site based on these factors. Hard work now will ensure that
you’re presenting people with only the best of offers. In the long run, this will
have an incredible impact on your affiliate earnings.

#4 – Select Products that Convert

You’ll waste a lot of time promoting products that don’t convert into sales.

Unfortunately, most affiliate programs don’t publish accurate sales figures.

That’s why you have to do a little bit of research and intelligent thinking during
product selection.

For instance, let’s talk about two of the more popular spots for finding affiliate
products – Clickbank.com and CJ.com (Commission Junction.)

Let’s start with Clickbank:

The above image is a listing of a popular affiliate product – Visual Impact by

Rusty Moore.

www.SteveScottSite.com 8
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

I’ve circled two things:

• Popularity: This is Clickbank’s secret algorithm that (probably) includes

things like total sales, refund rates, and conversion rates. This metric is
a good place to start for finding products that convert.
• Gravity: This is number determined by the total number of affiliates who
made sales in the last 60 days. (There’s a lot more to this than that
explanation.) Gravity helps you find converting products because more
affiliate sales generally means the product is converting well.

Now, let’s take at how Commission Junction determines shows converting

products:

The area I’ve highlighted is the 3 Month EPC (Earnings Per100 Clicks.) This is
a metric that shows the average of what you’ll make for every 100 clicks you
send to the affiliate offer.

This single metric is a great place to determine the conversion rate of an

affiliate product that’s promoted on CJ.com

www.SteveScottSite.com 9
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

Overall, the best way to begin a successful affiliate site is to only promote
products that convert. That’s why I suggest you stick with proven networks
that make it easy to find quality websites. Here are a few places to get started:

• Commission Junction: http://www.cj.com

• Amazon Associates: https://affiliate-program.amazon.com
• Clickbank: http://www.clickbank.com

There are a number of additional affiliate programs. But my suggestion is to

stick with these three before checking out other sites.

#5 – Promote Large Ticket Items

I believe it’s important to diversify your products and sources of income.

But, you absolutely MUST promote at least one large ticket item.

As an example, in 2011 I promoted an offer that paid $100 per sale. That one
program produced $39,300 in sales for the year:

I’ll admit $39,300 isn’t a huge amount of money. The important thing to
remember is this is one promotion that’s part of multiple sites I have in
multiple niches.

My advice is to locate one or two products that give you large payouts. This is
another way to maximize your commissions!

#6 – Increase Recurring Revenue

It’s equally important to promote products with a recurring revenue payout

structure. These are the offers where a person subscribes to a product or
service on a monthly basis. You get paid for every month they stay a member.

Recurring revenue is great because it means you’re receiving money on a

regular basis. It’s almost like you’re getting a regular paycheck!

As an example; take a look at this:

www.SteveScottSite.com 10
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

This image shows a few sales during a two-day span.

I’ll admit the amount I make on each sale isn’t much. But I get paid each and
every month. If you look at the red arrow, you’d see that I’ve earned $13.48 on
one affiliate sale for the last 36 months. That’s $485.28 in total revenue!

Hopefully you see why recurring revenue is awesome!

#7 – Market 2nd Tier Affiliate Products

A two-tier affiliate offer is a program that pays you in two ways.

Not only will you earn commission on your own sales, you’ll earn a percentage
of every sale made by other affiliate marketers that you refer.

One trick you can try is to design an entire business around recruiting quality
affiliates for a successful product. That’s what Allan Gardyne did with his
Associate Programs website: http://www.associateprograms.com where he
promotes the SiteSell.com product.

I guarantee Allan is killing it because he’s done a great job of getting the best
people to promote SiteSell.

#8 – Offer “Trial” Affiliate Products

Trial offers are another way to earn affiliate income because the lure of “free” is
enticing to many people.

www.SteveScottSite.com 11
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

Trial offers are nothing new—they’ve been around for decades. You probably
already know the drill. You offer a product for little or no money upfront with a
charge later on.

A lot of websites offer trial subscriptions which can be cancelled within a

certain period of time, but a charge will be applied should someone decide to
keep their subscription active (hellooo, recurring revenue!)

If you have an iPhone, you may have noticed that a lot of apps available for
download are “lite” versions which don’t offer all of the advanced features of the
“full” version. You can get them for free or for next to nothing, but if you want
to enjoy all the benefits you’ve got to purchase the real deal.

My advice is to take advantage of programs that offer trial memberships

#9 – Look for High-Percentage Payouts

There are a lot of options when it comes to the percent you make on each
affiliate sales. Some are as low as 5% (yuck) and others are as high as 200%
(hell yeah!)

Take time to find products that offer a high percent on affiliate sales. My rule of
thumb is to start with 50%.

With that said, don’t get too bogged down with the numbers.

Sometimes you want to promote a product that doesn’t offer a great affiliate
commission. Why? Because this offer provides a ton of value to your audience.

Promoting something like this shows people them that you’re not always
worried about making money.

#10 – Look for Product Leaks

Let me talk about my pet peeve…

I hate it when an affiliate manager insists they have a killer email sequence
with a proven formula for making money. Then when I double-check their
sales funnel, I see they include promotions for other affiliate products.

In my opinion, that’s outright thievery! Sites like this are basically taking
money out of your pocket by marketing products where you don’t get paid.

www.SteveScottSite.com 12
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

My point is this. Be careful when you promote an affiliate product. This is

especially true if you’re driving traffic to an email capture page.

At the very least, you should join this list and see what products they’re
promoting.

Don’t endorse any product that promotes another affiliate offer within a 30-day
window. That gives enough time for a prospect to make a purchasing decision.

#11 – Find New Products to Promote

New products hit the market all the time. It’s up to YOU to test them out and
tell your followers about the best ones.

It doesn’t matter what market you’re in. You will always have followers who
love buying new products. Use this to your advantage. Incorporate new
product promotions as part of your overall marketing message.

This doesn’t mean you pitch something new just to make money. Instead look
for problems/obstacles in your market. Then promote a premium offer that
provides a solution.

This means you’ll have to dedicate time to product research. The best places to
look are:

• Related blogs and websites

• Google Adwords advertisements for related keywords
• Email lists of other Internet marketers
• YouTube videos in your market
• The “New Product” listings in Clickbank

Promoting a new product is a great way to increase your affiliate revenue. The
trick is schedule time to do this task.

#12 –Use CB Engine to Do Market Research

I absolutely love promoting products from Clickbank.com. This site is great for
finding profitable new offers. The problem with Clickbank is it’s not very easy to
navigate.

That’s why I’ll often use the New Clickbank Products listing to find affiliate
offers that have just hit the market…

www.SteveScottSite.com 13
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

CBEngine.com makes it easy to locate new affiliate products in my niche; plus

it’s also a great place to do research on brand new niche markets.

So if you get stuck with what else to promote, then check out this site.

#13 – Promote Multiple Products

Noticed how I recommend promoting a variety of affiliate offers? You might

wonder which ones to promote…

My answer is all of them!

Some marketers make the mistake of promoting a single product. Remember

every market is full of multiple people with multiple problems. Your job is to
ultimately offer people with a selection of different way to solve the problems
they’re currently experiencing.

www.SteveScottSite.com 14
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

Generally speaking, I’d start with the product that has the highest payout
and/or solves the biggest problem in your niche. From there, you move on to
other offers.

#14 – Become a Mini-Expert on Each Product

Unfortunately this needs to be said…

You should review (and try) every product you promote. This is the best way to
help people make an accurate buying decision.

In my opinion, most “product reviews” are a joke. Usually you can tell in
the first minute if the person hasn’t actually used this product. These ‘reviews’
are full of puffed-up, over-hyped crap that doesn’t show what it actually does.

You need to be different with the products you promote. Go through the
material. Check out all the features. Try it in your personal life. Look for the
benefits that help “sell” it to subscribers. Then give an honest reason why
people should check it out.

What if you can’t afford to buy an affiliate product?

You don’t have to!

Simply email the product owner and ask for a review copy. Explain that
you’re building a niche site and want to promote his (or her) product. Odds are
most product owners will provide a review copy.

Obviously this technique doesn’t always work. But it never hurts to ask.

The best product reviews come from marketers who actually use what they’re
promoting. People want to see how it’s helped you. That way, it’s easier to
imagine how it’ll help their lives.

#15 – Use Sales Tools

Most quality affiliate programs come with a catalog of tools that make it easy to
sell their offer. These can include:

• Banner ads and product images

• Swipe email messages
• PLR articles and content
• Free reports you can give away

www.SteveScottSite.com 15
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

• Keyword lists
• Audios and videos you can customize
• Links to different sales mediums (ie: video sales letter vs. traditional
sales letter.)

You should go through all the sales tools that a program provides. At the very
least, you’ll get an idea of how to promote this offer.

In addition, you can use the articles and email swipes to create written content.
I think it’s important to put things in your own words, but these sales tools are
great for inspiration and ideas.

www.SteveScottSite.com 16
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

#2 – Affiliate Income
Models

I think affiliate marketing can be

simplified into two broad categories:

1. Authority Sites
2. Niche Sites

Each comes with its own advantages and

disadvantages.

Authority sites are great for building

long-term affiliate income. The idea here
is you build a loyal audience who buy
what you recommend because they trust
your recommendations.

This strategy is great because you’ll have

people who buy everything you promote.

So an authority site can be extremely

lucrative.

On the other hand, authority sites take a long-time to develop. You might work
for months before generating any income.

In addition, authority sites require a lot of focus. You can really only work on
one (maybe two) at a time.

Niche sites are great if you’re not interested in building an audience. All you
have to do is create some content and focus on increasing your search engine
ranking.

What’s great about niche sites is they’re easy to replicate and scale up. In fact,
you can create a “system” for building these sites that’s outsourced to group of
workers.

www.SteveScottSite.com 17
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

Now…the major downside to niche site building is it’s NOT a reliable income
model.

Most niche sites are based on search engine traffic. The problem is
Google always changes their algorithm. One day, you might find they’ve
changed something that completely removes your site from their listings. That
means your site is effectively dead.

Okay…those are the definitions of both types of affiliate sites.

Which one should you create?

My opinion is both.

It’s a good idea to diversify your income. That means you should have one
large authority presence and a bunch of small niche sites.

In this section, I’m going to list a few different income models you can use to
build niche websites.

Let’s get to it…

#16 – Do “Bum Marketing”

Bum Marketing is the brainchild of a guy named Travis

Sago: http://bummarketingmethod.com

A few years back, he found a loophole in the Google search results and created
a simple system where you:

1. Target high volume keywords

2. Post content around these keywords on sites like EzineArticles.com
3. Promote affiliate products in these articles
4. Rinse and repeat till you have a full-time income.

This technique helped a lot of people make some serious money. (It worked for
me!)

Unfortunately, Bum Marketing doesn’t work like it once did. Too much
competition has made it really hard to get a good listing for your article. Plus,
Google has slapped down many sites like EzineArticles; which makes it
challenging to get your pages ranked.

With that said, I feel the idea behind Bum Marketing still works.

www.SteveScottSite.com 18
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

The important principle is to find sites that Google naturally prefers and create
content on them. So while EzineArticles.com might not be the darling of
Google like it once was, there are still sites that can be “gamed for profit.”

For instance, here are a few sites that I’ve used to rank content based on
keywords:

• Squidoo
• YouTube
• Amazon

The key to making this work is to create content around a high-traffic keyword
and build backlinks to it.

Keep this idea in mind because we’ll be expanding upon it throughout this
report…

#17 – Be a Squidoo Lensmaster

A few years back, Squidoo was all the rage because it ranked high in Google
search results. Now, it’s largely ignored by the marketers who’ve moved on to
sites like Twitter and Facebook.

The good news is Squidoo still works.

In fact, you can earn affiliate income by promoting products through this site.

This technique is great for people who don’t have a lot of money. You can start
right away with ZERO income…all you need is a willingness to work hard.

For instance, my brother uses Squidoo to promote Amazon products. He has

done really well with this site in the last few months:

www.SteveScottSite.com 19
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

Another cool thing about Squidoo is you get paid based on the amount of traffic
you get to your lenses. For example, here is what he made since he’s opened a
Squidoo account:

Sure, $833.35 isn’t a huge amount of money. But it’s nice to get paid a little
bit of extra cash when all you’re really doing is driving traffic to an affiliate
offer.

Bottom line…Squidoo is a site to leverage you if want to build multiple niche

sites.

#18 – “Launch Jack” New Products

www.SteveScottSite.com 20
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

Product launches are now a big business!

Every day, dozens of products are released to markets hungry for

information. What’s great is you can turn this feeding frenzy into a profitable
side business.

Let me explain…

During a product launch, there is always a 1 to 2 week period where the

marketer builds anticipation for the product. Naturally, some people want
outside information and will search Google for sites that “review” this product.

You make money by creating sites that discuss this product and then
redirect people back to it using your affiliate link.

In my opinion, this income model is a moral ‘grey area.’ Most people that
“review” a product have never even read it. So this means they’re not giving
readers an accurate picture of what the product is really like.

My recommendation is to only promote products where you can get a review

copy and/or know the product owner has a proven track record of providing
quality information.

So how do you get started?

Here are a few ideas:

1. Use JV Notify Pro 2.0: This is a great site to get information about
upcoming product launches. While this site mostly caters to the “online
business” market, I have seen offers from other markets listed here.

2. Check out the Launch Sniper: {affiliate link} Mike Deiure has a pretty
good system that teaches how to find soon-to-be-released products with
a special emphasis on creating review sites that maximize your affiliate
earnings.

3. Subscribe to email lists of every affiliate program in your market.

Usually a product owner will give a few week’s notice about upcoming
promotion. If you take massive action, you can rank a website for that
search term.

www.SteveScottSite.com 21
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

I know a lot of people who make a full-time income simply by hopping on

popular products being launched.

#19 – Piggyback on Hot Trends

There’s always a trending topic in the news. We’re surrounded by information

that is catching people’s attention.

The good news is you can hop on these trends by creating content sites that
take advantage of news items and trends.

As an example, a few years back the actor Taylor Lautner put on 30 pounds of
muscle for that Twilight movie. Suddenly everyone wanted to know his secret
to bulking up. So they hopped over to Google and entered the keyword: Taylor
Lautner workout

And this is the first website that comes up:

Website: http://taylorlautnerworkoutx.net

www.SteveScottSite.com 22
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

You think it’s a coincidence that the first search result promotes an affiliate
product?

I guarantee this was done by a smart affiliate marketer who saw a major
opportunity with the trending Taylor Lautner Workout keyword.

Also, piggybacking on a hot trend can be done for seasons and holidays.

Think about all the cash that’s made during the build up before Christmas.

You can apply this same principle to:

• What people buy during each of the four seasons

• What holidays are coming up
• What “major events” are coming up (ie: Wedding season, graduation,
American football, etc.)
• What movies, books, and technology are about to be released

Your thinking cap is needed for this technique. Pay attention to the news and
magazines.

• What’s popular now?

• What’s going to be popular?
• What technology is being launched?
• What holidays are coming up?
• What new toy do the kids want?

There is an insane amount of opportunity when it comes to hot trends.

To get started, check these two sites:

• Google Trends: http://www.google.com/trends

• Yahoo Buzz Log: http://buzzlog.yahoo.com/overall/

The trick is to take immediate action when you find a profitable idea. Create
content around this trend and use affiliate links to promote items that tie into
it.

#20 – Sell High-Ticket Amazon Products

Normally I don’t promote products with small margins. But, Amazon.com is

the exception to that rule!

www.SteveScottSite.com 23
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

While their affiliate commission rates starts at 4% and caps out at 8.5%; you
can make good money by promoting their products.

You do this by building niche Amazon affiliate websites. The commission

rates aren’t that high. But there is a potential to make a huge profit if you can
generate a lot of web traffic.

What you want to do is look for “buying keywords” people use to find specific
products. These are people who are ready to make a purchase right now, but
need a little more information. They come to your website and read the
“presell” information. YOUR job is to redirect them to Amazon where they’ll
purchase the item and you get a sales commission.

My “sweet spot” for Amazon products is the $50 to $200 price range. This
is a price point where customers generally make quick purchasing decisions,
while also giving YOU a solid commission.

The best overview of this process is Chris Guthrie’s course on Amazon Niche
Profits. {affiliate link}

He’s done really well with Amazon products – Making over six-figures a year
from these sites. The trick I’ve learned is to follow a proven system. I like
Chris’s product because he gives step-by-step detail; without a lot of fluff.

Overall, I think there is an amazing potential with Amazon. I think it’s going to
be bigger than Wal-Mart!

Promoting products from this site can give you another nice source of affiliate
revenue.

#21 – Offer Low-Ticket Amazon Products

Okay its math time!

Imagine two scenarios:

In the first you sell 100 Amazon products priced at $100. According to
Amazon’s referral rate chart; you’d get a 6.5% commission which means you’ve
earned $650.

In the second, you sell the same amount of products at the same price.
Instead of the 6.5% commission rate, your earnings are at 8.5%. That’s a total
of $850! So basically you’ve earned an extra $200 for the same amount of
effort!

www.SteveScottSite.com 24
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

How is this possible?

Well, Amazon has a sliding scale when it comes to their commission rates. It
caps out if you sell over 3131 products in a single month:

So you’re probably wondering: “How do I sell 3131 products in a single month?”

It’s not that hard if you build sites that sell a lot of little things. Like Kindle
eBooks, cell phone covers, and low-cost toys.

This technique is an untapped market. Your average Amazon affiliate marketer

goes after the big bucks. But you can actually make good money by going after
a volume of small niche sites.

If you’re serious about building Amazon sites then I recommend creating

income streams where you promote both large and small ticket items.

#22 – Build Adsense Sites

Google Adsense is a great income model if you hate worrying about

converting traffic into affiliate sales. The idea is simple. You create content
around a specific topic. Then you embed contextual advertising (like Google
Adsense) into these articles.

You make money every time somebody clicks on an ad. This can be as high as
a few dollars per click. When you do the math, these clicks can add up to a
substantial amount of income – If you’re getting thousands of page views each
day.

www.SteveScottSite.com 25
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

One way to profit from Google Adsense is to build a series of small, niche-
specific websites. Each laser-targets a topic and ranks for specific keyword
phrases. People will click on ads because they will be directly related to what
they want.

Now, I know there are literally thousands of paid products for Adsense. But
the most useful information I’ve found is a blog post by Lisa Irby: How to Make
Money with Adsense.

Lisa gives specific examples, case studies and videos about making money with
Adsense. In addition, she provides a completely free (ie: no opt-in) ebook on
this subject.

I’d start with her site if you’re interested in Google Adsense.

#23 – Increase Google Adsense Click-Thru-Rates (CTR)

One more thing about Google Adsense…

You’d be surprised at how often a few simple tweaks can double, even triple
your earnings.

For instance, back in 2005 I made a full-time income from Google

Adsense. I’ve since moved on to revenue streams; but I still remember the
importance of ad position in relation to web content. At one point; I averaged a
25% click thru ad; which produced a nice income; despite my low number of
‘page views.’

Now, Google Adsense has changed a lot of their rules in the last few years. So
what I “know” about this income model has probably changed. The important
take-away is to track ad positions and tweak ad styles till you get (at least) a
15% click-thru rate.

The best way to take action on this is to use a content management

system (CMS) like WordPress to host your Google Adsense site.

WordPress offers a variety of plugins that automatically insert ads. Use one of
these tools to instantly test and tweak different ad styles.

#24 – Create Niche Specific Review Sites (or Pages)

Writing reviews for products is a great way to hop on a popular trend. The
trick here is to be “forward thinking.” Look for products that are about to be

www.SteveScottSite.com 26
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

released. Then create a website that reviews this product…with your affiliate
link of course!

This is similar to technique #19 where I talk about piggybacking on popular

trends. The only difference is you’ll target offers where people seek additional
information.

Also, you don’t necessarily have to build individual websites for this technique.
Here are a few ideas:

• Build a website that reviews all of the products in a specific niche

• Create a Squioo lenses that do the same thing
• Upload YouTube videos that target the title of the product, author, and
review keyword

People will always use Google to research a product. You can leverage this fact
by creating quality, in-depth reviews.

#25 – Build Small Niche Affiliate Sites

Small niche websites are a great way to create additional income for your
Internet business. These are different from authority sites because they tightly
focus on one topic.

Here are a few ways to monetize a niche site:

• Google Adsense
• Affiliate Marketing
• Cost-Per-Action (CPA) Offers

Niche sites are great because they’re relatively easy to replicate. You can easily
create one every week. In a year you’d have a portfolio of income-generating
businesses.

Now…to be perfectly honest, I’ve only just started building niche websites. So
my experience is limited with them. To more about this project, I recommend
you check out my Niche Affiliate Income Series.

#26– Buy an Aged Domain

Google places a strong emphasis on aged domains. Simply put, they’re more
likely to “trust” a website that is a few years old.

www.SteveScottSite.com 27
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

So you can increase your search engine rankings (and affiliate commissions) by
grabbing an older domain that’s based on your target keywords.

Most people think it’s difficult to grab an aged domain.

Actually it’s not that hard to snatch up one of these sites using the Go Daddy
Auction feature. Here you can find aged domains by selecting these
parameters:

• Select auctions that are Ending Soon

• Plug in a word or phrase that’s related to your niche
• Choose a one (or two) year minimum
• Select a .com, .net or .org website

This search will bring up aged domains where you can place a bid or even
immediately purchase. The best part? You can grab some sites for under $20.

To make things simple; I’ve put together a brief video that walks you through
the Go Daddy Auctions.

#27 – Flipping Websites

Domain flipping is similar to what’s done in the real estate market. You buy a
“fixer-upper” website, make improvements on it, and then sell it for a premium
price.

In theory it sounds easy. But you need a good eye for sites that don’t live up to
their profit potential. Look for sites that get traffic or rank high for a keyword
phrase. But also try to spot one MAJOR flaw that’s preventing this site from
really making money.

You don’t necessarily have to sell the website. What you can do is fix-up this
website and turn it into another source of affiliate income.

The best way to get started is to check out the “Buy, Sell, or Trade” section of
the Digital Point Forum. Here you’ll see a bunch of listings and how much it
costs to sell a specific domain. Also, Flippa is another good resource for buying
and selling domains.

Plus if you’re already in a niche, check out the search engine listings for
specific keywords. Probably you’ll find a bunch of sites that haven’t been
touched in months – Even years. Contact the owner and make an offer. You’d
be surprised at some of the valuable properties you can purchase for a few
hundred dollars.

www.SteveScottSite.com 28
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

#28 – Become a CPA Affiliate

CPA (Cost-Per-Action) is a great affiliate technique that has the potential to

become really profitable. Instead of trying to get people to buy a product, you
refer “leads” to an existing marketing funnel. You make money for every
referral that you make – Sometimes as high as a $20.

There is a bit of a science to CPA marketing. For the most part, you’ll
promote mass market offers like dating, making money, real estate, and losing
weight. These markets are usually full of experienced affiliates who know what
they’re doing. So do careful research before jumping in.

One trick I’ve seen people use is to build up a Facebook fan page around a
specific trending topic. Like Justin Beiber’s new haircut. Get people to “like”
this page. And then send these followers the occasional CPA offer.

AZoogle Ads is one of the better sites for CPA offers. Again, I recommend you
learn everything you can about this technique before getting started.

www.SteveScottSite.com 29
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

#3 – Authority Affiliate
Sites

Okay, we’ve covered niche affiliate sites.

Now let’s talk about the importance of

creating an authority affiliate site…

My best success with affiliate marketing

happened when I started building
authority sites.

Don’t believe me?

Starting in 2006, I focused on a single

niche; ignoring all the other
“opportunities.”

It wasn’t easy. But this dedication has

led to a full-time income.

Only after four years, did I move into a

second niche (my Steve Scott blog.)

I plan on staying here for the long haul because I’m a firm believer in the power
of focus.

Simply put: One Niche = Full-time Income

Or as I like to say it: “One Niche to Rule Them All”

When you’re in a single niche it’s simpler to maximize the money you generate.

For instance, you’ll get to:

• Learn the language and buzz words that prospects use

• Find out what really goes on in the mind of the customer
• Identify information gaps
• Reuse and recycle previously published content

www.SteveScottSite.com 30
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

• Spot new products that can generate additional income

• Network with key figures in a market to expand your reach
• Build a loyal group of followers who will listen to anything you say

This is just the tip the iceberg. The possibilities are limitless when you give
100% attention to a niche. It’s easy to make money when you’re completely
immersed in one subject.

So let’s talk about authority sites and how they can be used to increase your
affiliate income…

#29– Find Out What People Want

You might think this one is obvious. But a great way to make more money
with affiliate marketing is to find out what people want. To do this, I
recommend setting up a simple poll and ask your followers a few simple
questions.

Get started by analyzing the posts, articles, and emails that get the best
response. See which questions come up the most. Then use this information to
survey the needs of your audience.

You can use tools like the WP-Polls Plugin or Survey Monkey to set up a simple
poll. Just start by asking things like:

• “What is your biggest obstacle with ____?”

• “What is the one skill you’d like to master?”
• “What is the one product that has helped you the most?”

You’d be surprised at how a few simple questions helps you find the perfect
affiliate product to promote. People will go out of their way to tell you what they
want. All you have to do is ask!

#30 – Follow a Problem Solution Format

Another key strategy is to talk about a problem and then provide a solution.

There are three reasons why this is important:

First it demonstrates empathy. These words show that you understand their
situation. You know what they’re feeling because you’ve been there yourself.

www.SteveScottSite.com 31
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

Next it creates agitation. Presenting a problem creates a sense of incompletion

in their minds. It reminds them of something they still experience in their lives
– Something that needs to be fixed.

Finally it presents the affiliate offer as a natural solution. You’ve already

discussed their problem. Now you’ll recommend a product that fixes it. This
generates sales because it closes a loop in their minds.

My point is: Talk about a problem and then offer a solution.

#31 – Focus on Benefits, Not Features

There is a trick to writing the copy for your affiliate recommendations. My

advice is to focus on the benefits. This is the end result a person receives by
taking action. These aren’t the features of the product.

Here’s an example of how one is different from the other:

See the difference between features and benefits?

The features are a list of a product’s attributes. The benefits are what a
person experiences while using the product.

#32 – Offer a Bonus Item

One of the reasons people get minimal results with affiliate marketing is they
don’t give people a reason why they should buy through an affiliate link.

The trick is to offer a bonus offer IF a person buys through your affiliate
link. What I like to do is point out a “negative” in the product I’m
promoting. Then I’ll position my bonus as something that fills this void. This
is a great way to incentivize an affiliate offer.

www.SteveScottSite.com 32
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

Offering a bonus item is a great way to motivate those subscribers who are on
the fence. Remember, people follow you because they like your personal
brand. So offer them a bonus YOU have created.

Create a bonus that complements an affiliate product. Only offer this to

people who buy through your link. Even better…Point out a product defect
and then position your bonus as a solution.

#33 – Create a Resource Page

This tip works great if you have a large content site like a blog. Odds are you
have posts that cover a variety of topics. And they’re probably spread out over
weeks, months, even years.

What you can do is a set up a resource or “money page” that provides a reader
with additional content that can’t be found on an ordinary blog post.

Think of this page like a “101 class.” Put it in a logical order. Then link to any
product that’s relevant to these articles.

As an example, I’ve developed a few resource pages on topics like:

• Affiliate Marketing
• How to Start a Website
• Internet Marketing Tools I Use

These are just a few pages I’ve developed. By the end of 2012 I hope to have at
least 30+ pages dedicated to a specific topic that people want to learn.

My advice is to create a resource pages for the topics where people really need
help. Group together the articles on this subject. And then add affiliate links
where they’re relevant.

#34 – Create a Tools Page

This idea piggybacks on the resource page I just mentioned. You should also
have a page where you discuss the tools you use on regular basis. Most will be
links to free resources. But also include affiliate recommendations to products
that help readers.

Just don’t use this page as an excuse to include affiliate links. Make it an area
where you give explicit detail about why and how each tool is used. People
want to be given a reason why they should purchase a product.

www.SteveScottSite.com 33
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

You can enhance this area by linking to audios, resource pages, webinars, and
interviews. The tools page should get a lot of traffic. So make it something
that’s worth seeing!

#35 – Register a Domain Forwarding

If you create a lot of video or audio content; then you should register a URL
forwarding address for your top affiliate programs. The trick here is to
make it easy for people to remember. Use short phrases or words that can be
quickly written down and typed into a web browser.

Example: At one time, I used http://www.GetMarketMe.com for my

promos of the Market Me Suite program. Having this redirect made it
simple to tell people where to go in the promo videos for this tool. {This
link is no longer active because this site has become a free program.}

It’s not hard to set up a domain forwarding link. Simply register a domain and
then insert your affiliate link in the area where it says URL forwarding or
domain forwarding:

www.SteveScottSite.com 34
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

Pretty easy, right?

#36 – Demonstrate a Product

Record a video presentation where you demonstrate a product. (This

works great for membership sites and software.) Show all the benefits and
provide a behind-the-scenes look at what’s available to customers. Post on
your blog and YouTube.

There are a lot of affiliates who have successful businesses by doing an “open
the box” presentation. This is where they walk potential customers through
the product and show exactly what they’re getting.

Yes, this technique might cost a little money upfront. However it also leads to
a lot of future sales because you’re giving a sneak peak view that can’t be
found on most ‘product reviews.’

#37 – Do a “Video Review”

This idea is an expansion of what we’ve just discussed. In addition to

demonstrating a product; you can do a full-blown video review.

As we’ve discussed, preselling is a great way to promote a product. The

problem with the average affiliate presell is it’s hard to build credibility through
the written word. The truth is most people don’t believe the average review
page.

So a great way to stand out in your niche is to create multimedia content that
enhances the review. The trick is to give great content, while persuading folks
that an item is worth checking out.

There are a number of ways you can do this:

• Create a webinar using software like Go to Meeting

• Film yourself using with a pocket camera like the Kodak Zi8
• Do screen capture and power point presentation using Camtasia

Many people prefer multimedia content over text. Use it and you’ll add more
credibility to your product presentations. Plus you’ll increase the perceived
value of your content.

So how do you presell using multimedia?

www.SteveScottSite.com 35
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

There are a number of options:

 Do a visual walk through of the features/benefits

 Provide a testimonial that builds on your authority
 Talk about how the product has helped you in a niche
 Demonstrate how the product works
 Interview the product owner and get this person to explain it
 Discuss a problem in your niche and how the product solves it

You can do a lot with multimedia. Just tell people why you like this product
and you’ll generate lots of interest. Ultimately this will produce a sizeable
amount of additional income.

#38 – Host a “Perpetual Webinar”

Target a massive problem/question in your niche. Create a webinar

presentation that mostly solves this problem. Weave a subtle recommendation
of a quality product within the content. Promote this piece of content to all
current and future readers.

Now, you’ll need some technical help with doing a perpetual webinar. That’s
why I love the Optimize Press tool. This is a theme you can install on a sub
directory that brings prospect through a sales funnel; including webinars.

What I like about Optimize Press is you can set it to distribute links to a
webinar based on when a person joins your email list.

#39 – Record an Audio Interview

Record an audio (or video) Skype interview (or Audacity) with the owner of
an affiliate product. Include 90% quality content with a light pitch at the
end. Do this for your biggest affiliate products.

This technique is similar to the perpetual webinar idea I just discussed. You
record this one time and it becomes an evergreen piece of content that leads to
lots of future income.

An audio interview can be promoted in a variety places:

• In content related to the topic of the interview

• In podcast directories like iTunes
• In your tools page

www.SteveScottSite.com 36
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

• In your resource pages

• In a detailed product review

My advice is to promote this interview like you would with an affiliate product.
Not only does it provide great content, it will also generates income.

#40 – Write In-Depth Review Pages

Review pages are an excellent source of affiliate income. But like I said,
most people don’t a good job with these pages.

YOU can stand apart by providing an in-depth review page. Include things
like:

• What benefits (not features) a person will receive

• Screenshots and images related to this product
• An audio interview with the product owner
• An ‘open the box’ video where you show customers what they get
• Show the results you’ve received from while using the product

Do all these things and you’ll have a killer product review!

#41 – Provide Multiple Affiliate Links

Don’t just provide an affiliate link one time within a review page. Spread it out
throughout your content. My advice is to put a link at the start, middle, and
end of the review page.

This is important because many people are lazy. They shouldn’t have to search
for to a link. Instead it should be right in front of them. Make it easy for
people to click over to the affiliate offer.

#42 – SEO Your “Income-Generating” Content

In the last few tips; we’ve shown how to generate affiliate income through your
content. Now it’s time to put these ideas on steroids!

Do a little search engine optimization (SEO) on each piece of content based on

the specific keyword phrases.

For instance, you could target the keyword: {Product Name} + review in your
content. Get backlinks to this article and increase its search engine
ranking. This is a great way to target people who are in a buying mindset.

www.SteveScottSite.com 37
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

Get a top 3 ranking for a quality keyword and you’ll generate additional affiliate
income with little-to-no extra effort.

#43 – Market Your Presell Content

People don’t buy blindly through affiliate links. But they will if you’ve built
authority and regularly provide excellent advice. So focus on sending people to
content where you subtly talk about a product. {Like the review and resource
pages we’ve discussed.}

Content marketing is the best way to stand out in a niche. This problem is it’s
hard to get a lot of eyeballs on your best stuff.

The trick I’ve learned is to create a checklist. This will be a step-by-step process
you’ll use after publishing an awesome piece of content. You should link to this
presell content in a number of places:

• To your email list

• To your Twitter followers
• To your Facebook fans or friends
• To your blog readers
• To your YouTube and/or Podcast subscribers

Remember you’re not promoting an affiliate link. You’re talking about a piece
of content that can enrich their lives. Do this enough and you’ll build up a
portfolio of content that all leads to income-generating resources.

#44 – Focus on Blog Conversion Rates

Blogging is a challenging way to make money online. Sometimes it’s hard to

get people to take action on your affiliate links.

One technique I recommend is to identify what are known as “money pages.”

These are income-producing posts on your site like the resource, tools, and
review pages.

Your goal is to funnel traffic to these spots. The easy way to do this is to set
goals in the Google Analytics program. Focus on increasing clicks to money
pages.

You can find the goals tab by going to: Analytics Settings (for your site) 
Profile Settings  Add Goal.

www.SteveScottSite.com 38
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

Here’s how it looks:

You get three basic options with goals:

1. URL Destination
2. Time on Site
3. Pages/Visit

I recommend you create a URL Destination for your money pages. Then
regularly tweak your site till this number goes up and you’re getting more
traffic to these locations.

#45 – Find Advertisements that Convert

Banner advertising can be incredibly lucrative. It can also be a complete waste

of time and space on your site.

There are a few steps to maximizing your affiliate earnings from this form
of advertising:

First, look at the average earnings per hundred clicks (EPC) for each banner
ad. Sites like CommissionJunction.com give this information upfront:

www.SteveScottSite.com 39
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

Hopefully you can see the big difference between these ads. The top one
averages $189.23 per hundred clicks. And the bottom averages $47.46.

That means changing a single banner will generate 4x the commissions from
this particular product.

Next, there are some sites that don’t give banner ad stats. That’s why you
should create your own tracking system. You can do easily do this with the Ad
Rotator plugin for Word Press.

I suggest you set up 3 to 7 different ads on the same advertising space and use
this plugin to rotate the ads. Use a free tool like Bitly to track the clicks. And
set up an individual affiliate tracking code for each ad.

After a few weeks you’ll see which advertisements outperform the others.

Finally, you want to test and track ALL ads on your site. The best way to
maximize your advertising space is to make sure each spot is getting the most
clicks and income.

www.SteveScottSite.com 40
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

#46 – Insert Personal Advertisements

This technique works well for sites that rely on a strong personal brand. You
don’t use traditional banner ads. Instead you design your own ads or include a
simple link to the “money pages.”

Think of it this way…Most people come to YOUR site because they like YOUR
personal brand. Sending people directly to the merchant is a waste of a
potential affiliate sale. The best thing to do is to direct traffic to a spot where
you talk about an affiliate product and presell readers on why they should buy
it!

For instance Steve Pavlina generates a lot of income from his personal
recommendations. He doesn’t load up his site with banner ads. Instead his
“advertisements” are for pages that review products. Visitors read this page and
go to a merchant’s site with a buying mindset:

#47 – Track Advertisements

This idea is a super-charged version of tips #45 & #46.

With a content site (like a blog); it’s important to know where people are
clicking. You increase income by maximizing these areas for maximum
profitability. In other words, it’s important to put ads that get readers to take
action.

I recommend using software to rotate ads on your website. Use this to see
what motivates people on your site. Also, play around with the positions of
your ads. You’ll discover these small tweaks can maximize the profitability of
your site.

www.SteveScottSite.com 41
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

You can implement this idea by installing the Open X Ad Server tool. This
tracks the number of displays and clicks for each advertisement. I love this
tool because it gives very detailed on the ads that get the most clicks per
impressions.

The downside to Open X Ad Server is it’s tricky to install. So you might need
to hire someone to get it running on your site.

#48 – Design a “Ninja” Advertisement

This is a trick I’ve effectively used on my blog. All you do is create a text-based
image that matches the same font as your blog. This will be automatically
inserted at the end of every article.

Here’s how the ninja advertisement looks on my site:

I’ll admit it’s not fancy looking. Yet this advertisement has produced the most
sales for my information product – Affiliate Marketing without the B.S.

The DD Add Sig plugin is the best way to insert an ad at the end of every post.

For more information on how this works; check out my post and watch the
videos on the six types of graphics all websites should have.

www.SteveScottSite.com 42
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

#49 – Insert a Pop-Up Advertisement

Yes, pop-ups suck!

They annoy the hell out of people.

But…they get results!

I don’t recommend using advertising pop-ups. Instead create one for an email
list. This leads to affiliate commissions because email marketing is THE best
way to make money with this income model. (More on this later.)

Get started by using a script like Pop Up Domination. {affiliate link}

I’ve used this tool on a number of my niche affiliate sites. And it was even
installed on SteveScottSite.com for awhile. (I took it down because I wanted to
give visitors a great user experience.)

But whenever I install Pop Up Domination, I get at least a 30% bump in my

subscriber numbers.

#50 – Recycle Your Web Content

Your time is valuable. In my opinion, time is the only limited resource we have
on this earth. That’s why it’s important to maximize the returns you get on
everything you create.

For instance, let’s say you wrote a killer article called: “33 Time Management
Tips for the Busy Entrepreneur.”

This one piece of content can be recycled and reused in a number of ways:

1. Break it apart and create a YouTube video for each tip

2. Break it apart and use each tip for a status update on Facebook, Twitter
or Google+

3. Break it apart and create email autoresponders out of the better ideas

4. Break it apart, re-write some of the content and create 2nd tier backlinks
pointing back to your site

5. Re-Write some of the tips and submit as a guest post

www.SteveScottSite.com 43
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

6. Turn it into a Kindle eBook

7. Put it into PDF format that becomes a free gift to site visitors. {Half of
the content in this report started out as a blog post.}

8. Extend each tip with additional content and turn it into a premium audio
content. Or include within a podcast.

9. Insert as a section in a premium information product about time

management for professionals.

10. Bundle with other time management articles and sell them as a
Private Label Rights (PLR) package to other affiliate marketers.

Those are just ten ideas of how to reuse content. I’m sure you can come up
with plenty more if you really think about it.

Good content shouldn’t sit in one location waiting for the world to see. Instead
it should be delivered to as many places as possible!

#51– Create Small, Specialized Reports

Technically this tip is about creating information products. However you can
make a killing with affiliate marketing by creating a series of low-cost reports
that promote offers on the backend.

Creating small reports is a massively untapped market. Rather than sell a

full-blown information product, you offer a series of small reports that solve an
ultra-specific problem. What you’ll do is brainstorm all those little problems
that people have in your niche and create 20+ page reports that solve them.

You can ramp things up by offering a whole series of reports on interrelated

problems. That way if a person buys one report, he or she might be interested
in another.

Here’s an example… Awhile back I spent $10 for a report on getting more
Facebook Fans. I liked this guide because it got to the point. It didn’t waste
my time talking about the value of Facebook or even how to market on this
site. Instead it gave the simple solution that was promised…How I can get
more Facebook fans. Your small reports should be this specific!

To really make this work; you need a strong email marketing sequence.

www.SteveScottSite.com 44

And that’s what we’ll discuss in the next section…

www.SteveScottSite.com 45
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

#4 – Affiliate Email
Marketing

We’ve already talked a lot about niche sites

versus authority sites.

I’m often asked which I prefer.

My opinion is this…You should get your

feet wet with affiliate marketing by
building small niche sites.

Once you’re comfortable with affiliate

marketing, you should move on and build
an authority site.

Specifically, you should build an authority

site that has a strong email
autoresponder sequence.

I’ll admit I’m a little biased when it comes

to email marketing. Over 90% of my
income has been created from this income
model. So I know it works.

If you want to generate over six-figures a year; then email marketing can be the
key to making this happen.

In this section, I’m going to go over a number of tips that will help you create a
profit-pulling email sequence…

#52 – Build a List – No Matter WHAT!

As an affiliate marketer, you might be tempted to send people directly to a

merchant’s website.

I’d agree this seems like a simpler solution because you’re putting more
eyeballs in front of an offer.

www.SteveScottSite.com 46
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

But I think this is the worst way to build an affiliate business.

Direct linking to a merchant’s site is a “hit or miss” income model. You either
make money from the prospect or you lose him/her forever. Even worse, only
1% to 2% of people will buy the product. That means you’re losing over 98% of
your prospects.

Let’s take this one step further… You’re even losing out on the people that do
buy an affiliate product. The best kinds of prospects are people who buy stuff.
Direct linking to a merchant’s site means you’re losing life-long customers.

The real money in affiliate marketing comes from a building a list of fanatical
readers who act upon your recommendations.

#53 – Offer a KILLER Lead Magnet

A successful email list starts with a free offer. You need to give away
something of value in exchange for a person’s email address. This gives you
permission to email until he or she unsubscribes. (Later on, I’ll explain how to
keep people’s interest with email marketing.)

The free giveaway is often called a lead magnet. Usually this is a free
downloadable report that has high perceived value. The trick is to create a lead
magnet that people really want. And here six questions that will help you write
one:

1. Does it solve a major problem? All you have to do is find the biggest
problem and then offer a step-by-step guide that fixes it.
2. Is it valuable? A lead magnet should offer genuine value to the reader.
The days of offering ‘free junk’ are long gone. You’ll be dead in the water
if all you’re doing is offering content that nobody wants.
3. Does it relate to my site? Build authority with your audience. You
can do this by offering a lead magnet that directly ties into your overall
marketing message.
4. Is it sexy? There’s a bit of salesmanship involved with a lead magnet.
In fact, it needs to be a little sexy. When I mean sexy I’m saying it
should have a catchy title with an eCover image that stands out.
5. Do you offer something unique? Don’t get caught in the trap of
offering a lead magnet that’s similar to hundreds of others. Make it
unique to your situation.

www.SteveScottSite.com 47
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

6. Does it deliver? Your lead magnet has to deliver on what it promises. If

you make the claim that it helps someone get 10,000 Twitter followers in
a month then it BETTER list the steps for achieving this goal.

Answer “yes” to all six of these questions and you’ll have a lead magnet that
people really want.

#54 – Include Affiliate Links in Your Lead Magnet

You can make a lot of recurring revenue by including the occasional affiliate
link in your lead magnet.

Just be careful with these links. Email marketing is all about building
relationships. And the worst way to start a relationship is to ask people to
immediately spend money. My advice is to only include an affiliate link where
you would recommend a product even if you didn’t receive monetary
compensation.

#55 – Split Test Your Opt-In Page

Most lead magnets are offered on what’s commonly called an “opt-in page” or
“squeeze page.”

This is a single page that sells people on the idea of entering their email
address. As an example, here is a squeeze page I did for customers of my
Kindle book: http://www.stevescottsite.com/offer/early-bird/

Frankly, it’s getting harder and harder to get people to enter a valid email
address. That’s why you need to do a great job of “selling” a free offer.

More importantly, you need to split-test an opt-in page.

It’s simple math:

More subscribers = More money

There are many ways to increase the number of subscribers. But there is really
only one way you can do it a few minutes – Split testing.

What you do here is tweak your squeeze page. Keep doing this till your opt-in
percentage increases.

www.SteveScottSite.com 48
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

My tool of choice for split-testing is Google Optimizer. I’ve tried a lot of

premium solutions. Yet, I’ve found this free program is the best of them all!

Next, the program I use to design my opt-in pages is the Optimize Press tool.

Sidebar: That is my affiliate link. But like I just said…this is a program

I’d recommend even if I didn’t receive monetary compensation.

Finally, you might wonder what you should test. My advice is to start with one
of the 23 split-tests I discuss here. Trust me. This post will keep you busy for
many months.

#56 – Create Thank You Page Income

Every Internet business should have a thank-you page. Moreover, every thank
you page should have an advertisement.

What is this?

A thank you page is where people are directed after signing up for a newsletter
or buying a product. Usually it provides download instructions.

What most marketers don’t realize is the profit potential of thank you pages.
It’s a vital piece of virtual real estate. That means it’s one of the best places to
advertise a top-rated affiliate product.

Don’t believe me?

In 2011, I generated a total of $18,600 from a single opt-in page. Here is a

screenshot of the different versions I tested throughout the year:

What’s cool is this $18,600 was from 100% free traffic! People came to my site
for a lead magnet. Once they subscribed, they’re redirected to a page with

www.SteveScottSite.com 49
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

download instructions. At the end is a simple advertisement for my best

affiliate product.

This tiny action generates more than a thousand dollars of income every
month.

Sidebar: I know this goes against what I just said about not starting an
email relationship by asking people to spend money. Really it comes
down to personal preference. I know a lot of people won’t open my
emails after they get a free report. So I feel a small advertisement on the
thank you page doesn’t get in the way relationship that I build in future
emails.

Anyway…adding an advertisement on a thank you page is a great way to

immediately monetize a free offer. Try it yourself and see how it works!

#57 – Track Your Opt-In Sources

It’s important to track where you get subscribers. Here’s how you can break
down this metric:

• Subscribers from your blog

• Subscribers from article marketing
• Subscribers from YouTube channels
• Subscribers from PPC advertising
• Subscribers from social media sites like Twitter or Facebook

It’s impossible to determine this metric without tracking each traffic

source. With Aweber you can tag each subscriber. This is a small tracking id
that identifies the source of traffic:

Tagging a subscriber is a great way to figure out which traffic source produces
motivated subscribers. These are the people who open your emails and click
on links. For instance, you can cross reference who opens an email with the
ad tracking id. Within a few seconds, you’ll identify the traffic sources that
convert best.

Ultimately this leads to more affiliate income because it pinpoints the people
who respond to your offers. This tells you which traffic source you should
concentrate on in the future.

www.SteveScottSite.com 50
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

Here’s another reason why this metric is important...

It segments your list and directs people to different types of content you’ve
created.

Let’s say you have a list of subscribers from a blog and subscribers from a
YouTube channel. You can let the blog readers know about a video you’ve just
created. Then you can send an email to all video subscribers about a new blog
post. This is a great way to build your brand without sending too many emails
to an individual subscriber.

You can get started with this three-step process:

1. Create a distinct opt-in page for each traffic source

2. Insert an ad tracking code on each page
3. Use Aweber to quickly to segment these lists and deliver content that’s
relevant to the user experience of each subscriber

After this, you’ll have a list that’s full of “tagged” subscribers. This makes it’s
easy to segment a list and send them targeted content.

#58 – Write a Responsive Autoresponder Sequence

Build an autoresponder sequence that rocks! Write a series of emails that

educate while promoting top affiliate products. The key here is to create
valuable email content that complements your online brand.

They say the money is in the list. The problem is most marketers often ignore
this asset.

Also, you don’t necessarily have to sell through email. Instead you can provide
links to the “money pages” that promote specific affiliate products. That way
you’re educating while generating income at the same time!

Finally, I recommend you maintain a publishing schedule of your

emails. Do this for both your autoresponders and broadcast messages.

Include metrics like:

• Open rates
• Clicks on affiliate links
• Earnings per email (Do this with a tracking ID.)

www.SteveScottSite.com 51
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

This information is important because it shows what produces affiliate

income. Use it to front load your sequence with the most profitable
emails. Ultimately this is a great way to increase profits with the same number
of subscribers.

#59 – Track Your Email Affiliate Links

Testing and tracking is an important ingredient to the success of your affiliate

business. The only way to know if an email campaign is effective is to measure
the results.

Like I said, I put all of my autoresponder sequences into a publishing

schedule. This tracks what emails I send and the purpose behind each. One
tab I include is the tracking code for each email affiliate link.

Yes, it’s a little OCD. But I’ve found it’s really important to track every email
that’s sent to subscribers. Every thirty days, I tabulate the sales
number. After a few months, I’ll know which emails produce income and
which don’t.

How do you create a tracking ID?

This can be done through most affiliate programs and networks. For instance,
Clickbank has Tracking ID (TID) feature. This is a piece of code you can
include with every link.

Here’s what this looks like:

www.SteveScottSite.com 52
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

And here’s how your raw affiliate link looks:

Also, I send a lot of broadcasts messages. And I found it was hard to track
affiliate campaigns based on a code. So what I’m just starting to use is a
special sequence that’s based on a date.

www.SteveScottSite.com 53
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

As an example, if I sent an email out today (February 13th, 2012) for my

primary affiliate account, it would look like this:

1z021312

The ‘1’ is the identifier for my affiliate account (I have four.)

The ‘z’ is a way to break up the number sequence. And z is a letter that’s
rarely used.

And the ‘021312’ is the date – February 13th 2012

Why should you go this specific?

Well, I use a publishing schedule to track all my messages. This identifier

works great for those products that have recurring revenue.

Believe me… it’s nice to look at a commission months after an email has been
sent and know the exact email that produced this income:

Tracking each affiliate link is super important. It’s the only way to know what
actually works with your marketing.

www.SteveScottSite.com 54
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

#60 – Split Test Your Emails

You want to consistently work on your open rates. The more people opening
your messages means more money in your pocket.

Here’s an example…

Email #1 has an open rate of 20% and it generates $1000.

What if you bumped up the open rate to 30%?

That means you’ve just increase profitability by $500!

Split-testing can make this happen!

Every email should be split into half and then you test one factor. Here’s how
this looks in Aweber:

What should you split-test?

Here a few ideas:

• The subject line

• The day the message is sent

www.SteveScottSite.com 55
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

• The time on same the date

• Long copy vs. short copy (to see if your messages trip spam filters.)
• Styles of content (Aggressive vs. Soft Sell)

No matter what – ALWAYS split test your broadcast messages.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot…

Without getting too “technical,” a lot of free email companies (Yahoo, Hotmail,
and Gmail) have cracked down on marketers. So it’s getting harder and harder
to avoid the dreaded SPAM label.

One of the factors they look for is the quantity of emails you’re sending. This is
bad news for anyone with a large list.

So split-testing can also help you because it cuts down the size of your email
list. Sending two smaller batches of email instead of one is a great way to slip
under the radar of over-aggressive SPAM filters.

#61 – Study Other Niche-Related Marketers

Study other marketers in your niche. Join their email lists and subscribe to
their blogs. See how they structure an affiliate recommendation. Borrow
the ideas that currently work for them. (Just don’t plagiarize their content.)

Here are a few places to find these marketers:

• Warrior Forum: One of the most popular Internet marketing forums.

You’ll find successful marketers in every niche here
• Niche Blogs: Just enter your primary keyword + blog in Google and
you’ll get a list of popular people in this niche
• Information Products: Almost every information product owner has a
free list. Get on every one!
• Google Alerts: Enter your primary keywords and you’ll get daily emails
about news related to that topic.
• Networks and Links: The above four places will often link to other
sources. See who they link to and get on those lists as well!

www.SteveScottSite.com 56
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

I recommend you set up a Gmail account that’s dedicated to studying content

and emails from successful marketers. Get on ten or more lists of the most
popular authorities in your niche. In a few weeks time, you’ll have an inbox
full of niche-specific affiliate marketing information.

#62 – Create a Swipe File

A swipe file is another way to leverage the hard work of other successful
affiliate marketers. Simply find content you know works and use it as
templates for email campaigns.

I’m not telling you to steal other peoples work. This does more harm than
good. What I recommend is you study and learn from the masters.

Create a swipe file by collecting information that’s based on email. These help
you write content that builds relationships and produces affiliate sales.

For instance, here is what to include in your swipe file:

 Email marketing subject lines— Which emails were convincing enough

that you opened them and made a purchase or joined a website?

 Opening Statements – How did the marketer start the email and made
you want to read the entire message?

 Different Types of Autoresponders— What emails are sent to the people

in your niche? Are they sales-orientated? Or do they showcase the
marketer’s personality? Collect emails from other marketers and see how
they’re talking to people.

 Links to popular blog posts—Create a list of popular posts. These can

be used as ideas for an email topic. This is great for when you don’t
know what to write. Just take an idea and put your own spin on the
topic.

 Selling Words – Keep a database of phrases and words marketers use

within email copy. It’s easy to sound like an authority when you’re using
specific buzz-words.

www.SteveScottSite.com 57
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

 Calls to Action – A call to action is the text around the affiliate link. It’s
that final push to get people to take action on your recommendation.
These words are important because it’s the last chance you have to
motivate a subscriber

Copywriting is a skill. It’s something that takes years to master. In fact, I still
work at it every single day.

Carefully analyze each message. Then take the best copy and add it to a folder
for future reference.

This file will become one of your favorite affiliate marketing tools. Use it
whenever you struggle with what to say. On a personal note, I’ve created a
swipe file for every affiliate niche and it’s always something I regularly use.

#63 – Use Persuasion Tactics

One of my favorite books is Influence by Robert Cialdini. The premise is there

are six ways to influence people:

1. Reciprocation
2. Commitment and Consistency
3. Liking
4. Social Proof
5. Authority
6. Scarcity

You can apply this information in a number of ways. With affiliate marketing,
subscribers are influenced through your email copy.

Here’s how each influencer works:

1. Reciprocation: Helping a person is a powerful way to influence their

behavior. Give something away and people feel like they should return the
favor. With email marketing, reciprocation is done by offering value up front –
And not asking anything in return.

2. Commitment and Consistency: We all want to feel special. Nobody thinks

they’re selfish, stupid, uncaring, lazy or boring. Get someone to agree they
possess a good trait and you can make them do something because it “fits” this
characteristic.

www.SteveScottSite.com 58
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

3. Social Proof: We look to others to for how to act in certain situations. If a

thousand people like a product, then it must be good. Social proof gets people
to do something by showing how it’s benefited others.

4. Liking: This is a powerful way to influence people. When we like someone;

we’ll go that extra mile to help them. Think of your close friends. I bet you’d do
anything to help them out! Liking is established over an extended period of
time. You achieve it by cultivating a friendship and showcasing a personality.
Ultimately people will buy affiliate offers because they’ve grown to like you.

5. Authority: Authority can be used to influence because people like buying

from trusted sources. Establishing authority is another long-term process. It
starts by offering valuable content that showcases your expertise. Then it’s
increased through a series of emails that answer many niche-related questions.

6. Scarcity: Last, but definitely not least, is scarcity. This is the biggest
influencer of them all. You can literally print money on demand simply by
threatening to take something away.

It’s often been said that most people spend their lives doing things out of a fear
of loss rather than a desire for gain. Use this knowledge wisely and you’ll make
piles of money!

My advice is to make scarcity your secret weapon. It’s that final push to make
subscribers take action.

#64 – Presell Through Email

We’ve already talked about the importance of preselling. But this is especially
important when it comes to promoting affiliate products through email.

Your job is to discuss each affiliate product and show how it solves a particular
problem. You want to create desire, tell engaging stories, and make
subscribers feel excited about this offer!

The best way to presell is to appeal to people’s emotions. In each message use
one of the six influencers we’ve discussed to get them to take action. These
persuasion techniques make them become interested in an affiliate offer.

Preselling is incredibly important when it comes to digital information products.

People can’t physically touch this product. It’s just a file on their computer.
So you have to explain the value and benefit of this product. Briefly mention

www.SteveScottSite.com 59
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

the features, but concentrate on the emotion a subscriber will receive when he
or she gets results from this product.

As an example, don’t just talk about the exercises in a new six-pack abs
product.

Instead describe how developing six-pack abs will make a man feel desired by
the woman (women) in his life. How he’ll feel walking down the beach with his
shirt off. And how he’ll be in better shape in his 40’s than he was as a young
man.

Use email to appeal to a person’s imagination. Talk about how the product has
helped other people in similar situations. Give specific examples. Discuss how
it’ll feel to own it.

Don’t just say a product is good. Trigger a subscriber’s imagination. Help

them picture what it’s like to experience a profound change in their lives.

Also, be sure to incorporate one of the five senses: Hearing, sight, touch, smell,
and taste

As an example, let’s talk about a “six-abs product for men.” Here’s how to use
each of the five senses in email copy:

• Hear the gasp of amazement from your wife when you take your shirt off
• Look in the mirror and see a flat, ripped stomach
• Wake up each morning and feel 20 years younger
• Breathe the ocean air as you confidently strut down the beach
• Taste the sense of victory as you finally get rid of that beer belly

Effective email copy starts with the imagination. Help readers picture what it’s
like to use a product. Tell them how it’ll change their lives.

#65 – Have a Personality

Storytelling always captivates the attention of an audience. Many people are on

your list because they believe in your personal brand. Give a few anecdotes
and you’ll strengthen this relationship.

Stories should be a major part of your email sequence. These will come from
personal lessons you’ve learned in this niche. They work best when directly
related to the topic of that email.

www.SteveScottSite.com 60
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

Think about each message you send:

• Is there a quick story that can be included?

• Was there an “ah-ha” moment that helped you overcome an obstacle?
• Did you learn anything recently related to your niche?
• Was there a mentor or authority figure who taught you a valuable
lesson?

All of these questions can lead to an excellent story that will pull in email
subscribers and ultimately increase your overall affiliate sales.

My autoresponder series is an extension of my personality. I tell stories. I’m

funny (or at least try to be.) And I give my personal viewpoint. In short, I’m a
real person!

As an example, here is the start of an email I sent awhile back:

I didn’t do anything special here. Instead I wrote things that popped into my
head. One of them was how uncomfortable I felt because of the heat. So I tied

www.SteveScottSite.com 61
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

this into the introduction of the email. What’s interesting is I had a few people
send replies; saying this message made them laugh because they got the
obscure reference to an episode of The Simpsons.

Don’t be afraid to be a genuine person to subscribers. You’ll discover that it’s a

great way to build loyalty and a following. People like doing business with
people. So use your personality to BE a person.

#66 – Give a Little “Extra” with Each Email

Like we’ve discussed – Email marketing is a war.

You’re literally fighting for the attention of subscribers. And one wrong move
means people will hit the “unsubscribe” link.

That’s why it’s important to provide LOTS of value upfront.

One trick I use is to regularly offer subscribers PDF versions of the email
content I send. Why? Because this file increases the overall perceived value of
the content.

Simply put, your average subscribers thinks a PDF has more inherent value
than a standard email. Even better – It can be downloaded and saved on their
desktop.

My advice is collect emails that relate to one another and put them into a single
document. Then use a site like Fiverr.com to create a basic eCover image.

In addition, you might also want turn a video version of your email content.
People really like video. And you can gain an increased amount of loyalty by
delivering this type of content. All you have to do is add a few bullet points. Or
go over a process. Ultimately this is a great way to give more value back to
your subscribers.

#67 – Relate Current Events to Email Content

Remember…getting people to open emails and click links is the most important
step to effective email marketing. One way to increase this number is to relate
your email content to a popular news item.

Every day, there are a few items that people talk about. Usually it’s some sort
of social phenomena that’s just gained attention. Within the Yahoo Buzz tool

www.SteveScottSite.com 62
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

there is a Movers section that lists the 20 news items that are gaining
popularity:

At the top, you see there is a news item about that woman who was text
messaging while walking down the aisle of her wedding.

Let’s say you have a site about blogging or social media. You can easily come
up with an email titled: “What the Texting Bride can Teach You About the Power
of Facebook”

Okay, the subject line isn’t perfect. The point is you can increase open rates
and CTRs by tailoring content around specific things happening in the world.

www.SteveScottSite.com 63
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

#68 – Send Broadcast Messages

We’ve already talked about making money with an autoresponder sequence.

What I haven’t mentioned is sending broadcast messages can also be incredibly
effective.

One mistake I see some affiliate marketers make is they ignore the subscribers
who have gone through an entire autoresponder sequence.

Don’t do this!

Instead you should segment the older subscribers (see tip #72) and send them
content that’s related to new things on your site.

For instance, you can send:

• Links to new articles/blog posts on your site

• Updates about a product you’re launching
• Promotions for a brand new affiliate product
• News items related to your topic
• Surveys that pinpoint what content to create

There are so many things you can do with subscribers who have been around
for awhile. So don’t make the mistake of ignoring them!

#69 – Resend “Winning” Broadcast Messages

This technique works great with broadcast messages.

The harsh reality of email marketing is many people will unsubscribe after a
few months. Or they’ll lose interest. The good news is you can send proven
emails to new subscribers.

Every six to ten months, you should recycle the best emails. These messages
are proven to make money, so why not send them again?

You might wonder: “Why would I want to send this again? Won’t people get
mad at me for doing this?”

Well, I’ve been sending email since 2006. In that time, I’ve never had a single
complaint from someone who said they already received the same message.

www.SteveScottSite.com 64
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

Use your publishing schedule to identify the most profitable emails you’ve sent.
Then simply re-send it with a new subject line (or even use the same one.)

You’d be surprised at how much additional income can be generated by simply

re-sending an old message.

#70 – Follow Up with Subscribers

Let’s pretend you’ve just sent a killer broadcast message. This one message
has produced a sizable income and subscribers love this product.

What do you do next?

Yup, you guessed right…

…Send another one!

Okay, this seems obvious.

The problem is many affiliate marketers make the mistake of not following-up
with their list.

They’ll get great results with one email. And then they’ll immediately move on
to the next product.

Do this and you’re leaving money on the table!

If one email works, try another!

Hell, if a second works, try a third!

Example: Last January (2011) I generated $3,911.32 in a single day by a

product in a single email:

www.SteveScottSite.com 65
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

But I didn’t stop there. Instead, I sent a couple of follow-up emails to my

list and even sent the same messages to a list of product customers in
the same market.

By following up, I didn’t just make $3,911.32. Instead I earned

$13,342.84 from this promotion.

My point is to always follow-up if you have success with a single email.

One of the secrets to making money with affiliate marketing is to duplicate

what’s working. So when an email gets results, make sure that you’re sending
it to as many people as possible!

#71 – Resend to Unopened Emails

Here’s a twist on the tip I’ve just mentioned…

With tracking you know what broadcast messages make money. The cool thing
is in most email programs (like Aweber) you can deliver the same message to
anyone who didn’t open the original email.

Let’s say you have an email that worked like gangbusters. But you know some
people didn’t open it and you want to make these people take action.

So what do you do? It’s simple. With most email programs, you can sort
through subscribers and identify the people who did not open a specific
message.

Here’s how this would look:

Simply save this segment of subscribers. Give it a name. Then you’ll re-send
the message to these people. The only change is you’ll write a new subject line
for the email.

This works because subscribers might be interested in the product, but didn’t
get the original message. Perhaps:

www.SteveScottSite.com 66
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

• They might have been busy.

• The email might have ended up in the SPAM folder.
• The original subject line might not have been “grabbed” that particular
subscriber.

Whatever the reason, it’s important to give people a 2nd chance on your best
email messages.

#72 – Use Sublisting to Maximize Conversions

Ultimately you want to create sublists for your email campaigns.

What is a sublist?

It’s when you take an email address for one list and automatically place it into
a more targeted list.

Here’s an example…

Let’s say a list of people who have signed up for your “fitness” newsletter.
They’re not proven buyers. All they are is a list of freebie seekers who have a
variety of interests:

• Home fitness workouts

• Build muscle
• Lose weight

These are people are all over the map when it comes to what they want.

Now let’s say you have an information product on developing six-pack abs.
You charge money for it. So a lot of people on your “fitness” newsletter won’t
join your customer list.

So it makes no sense to have these groups of people on the same list. Instead
you would sublist them into two categories

1. Free “fitness newsletter” subscribers

2. Customers of the six-pack abs product

Whenever someone buys a product, they’re automatically removed from the

workout newsletter and added to the six-pack abs customer list.

This can easily be done in the Aweber system:

www.SteveScottSite.com 67
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

First you’d locate the main list (where you want people to unsubscribe from)

Then you’ll go to My Lists  Automation

Then you’ll find this automation rule:

Unsubscribe from list [list name] when subscriber subscribes to [new list
name]

Here’s how I do this for customers of my Affiliate Marketing without the B.S.
product.

Why would anyone want to sublist?

www.SteveScottSite.com 68
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

This list will contain people who are specifically interested in a particular topic.

Even better – It’s a collection of proven buyers. These people will be very
responsive to any future offer you make. Done correctly, you can add of lot of
additional income by marketing to these individuals.

Think of it this way... You know they like a particular topic and you know
they’re willing to spend money. Wouldn’t it make sense to send them more
offers?

Ultimately your goal is to have multiple products and offers. This makes it
easier to sell to these people and get more people to take action.

#73 – Use Short, “Ninja” Emails

WARNING: The following technique can be incredibly effective with an

email list. But you can also lose credibility if done incorrectly. Only use
it when you’ve built a lot of rapport with subscribers. And then only do it
once every few months.

Okay, we’ve learned that giving quality to your list is a great way to make it
responsive.

Does that mean that all your sales emails should filled with content?

The answer is NO!

Providing quality content is like depositing money in the “bank of trust.” When
subscribers come to know that you’re a source of useful information, they
won’t need a lot of persuasion to check out an offer.

Just write an email and list a benefit or two. Then provide a link to the
product. That’s all you really need to do with a responsive list.

Don’t believe me?

It took me five minutes to write the “$3,911.32 in one day” email I mentioned
in tip #72.

The total length was a whopping total of 80 words.

Sounds easy, right?

www.SteveScottSite.com 69
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

Well there’s a lot more involved than writing a short email. I feel the success of
this promotion came from the relationship I’ve built over the last few years.
These people are used to getting quality content on a regular basis.

They acted on my email because I’ve trained them to do so!

My point is you don’t necessarily have to spend a lot of time crafting your
affiliate marketing messages.

The hard part is building the relationship beforehand.

Just get prospects to the affiliate site and let the sales presentation do its job!

Now…if you’re a little unclear about how email should be structured, then
check out this example of a ninja email.

Yes, this email is pretty aggressive. But it really works when you’ve built
a strong relationship with list subscribers.

#74 – Use Short Email Text

What’s the quickest way to kill your email conversions?

Give subscribers lengthy emails filled with paragraphs of content.

Your goal as an email affiliate marketer is to provide great content, presell

products, and get people to click the links you provide.

That’s it!

So it’s super important to use short paragraphs and short text.

This makes your emails easier to read and ultimately it results in more people
checking out your affiliate offers.

My advice is to use short text when writing an email. In a way, this is similar to
how you’d write copy on a sales letter. One resource that’s helped me learn this
skill is the Copywriter’s Handbook by Robert Bly.

For the text length, I recommend you stick to around 50 characters.

This is a lot shorter than the 60 or 65 character limit that some email experts
recommended. But in my opinion, a short width makes it easy for people to
read your content.

www.SteveScottSite.com 70
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

Do this. Take a look at the header I use for each message:

01234567890123456789012345678901234567890123456789

This is exactly 50 characters. Write this down at the top of each email. This will
help you format the text and keep the sentences short.

#75 – Include a Call to Action

Don’t leave people hanging. Every link should include instructions where you
tell them what to do (ie: click the link, check out a site, read this post, go now to,
buy a product, etc.)

This is commonly known as a call to action. It’s the text that comes before (or
after) a link that prompts action. With email, tell people what to do next.
Don’t assume they already know.

To illustrate this point, here are a few calls to action:

• Click the link below…

• Go check out this site…
• Watch this video…
• What are you waiting for, go now…

A call to action should motivate people. It makes a subscriber do something

that benefits their life.

The important ingredient to a call to action is the text before a link. Describe
the benefits the person a person receives. Make these words powerful and
you’ll get people to take action.

Also, you don’t have to beat subscribers over the head with a call to action.
Sometimes all you need to use is a casual mention within the body of the
content:

www.SteveScottSite.com 71
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

You don’t need hype to create an effective call to action. Often it’s better to
casually mention a product within the content. This is a great way to blend
value with a solid product recommendation.

Finally, make sure every link has a call to action – Even if it’s subtle one.
There should be an explanation why a person should click every link.

How can a call to action increase affiliate revenue? Simple. More clicks means
more sales.

#76 – Close with a Compelling P.S.

Drive home the point of an email by including a rock-solid P.S. A lot of people
will take action simply because the P.S. is the only area they’ll read.

The P.S. area usually gets the highest number of clicks. So be sure to include
one in many of your emails.

There are a lot of benefits to using a P.S.:

• You can include another link and call to action

• You can restate the major benefits
• You can remind readers of something that’s about to happen
• You can recap the problem  solution
• You can tell a separate, but brief story

The P.S. is the last chance to hook a reader’s attention.

So make it count!

Affiliate
#5 Web Traffic
Email
– Affiliate Marketing
Generation

Your affiliate marketing income is largely

determined by web traffic.

Generally speaking, more traffic means

more money.

That’s why you need to focus on traffic

generation on a daily basis.

That saying is not true: If you build it, they

will not come.

Each affiliate site requires a specific

strategy for getting followers and visitors.

In this section, I’ll list a few ideas that

I’m personally using to get web traffic to my
content and affiliate offers…

#77 – Track Your Web Traffic

Track every affiliate click down to the exact traffic source. This identifies the
specific places that give the biggest bang for your buck.

Tracking traffic is a quick way to see what’s getting results in your affiliate
business. Simply do more of what’s working and less of what’s not.

First you should install the Google Analytics program on all of your affiliate
sites. This tool provides an excellent breakdown of the traffic you’re getting.

Next, you should create a tracking code for your email opt-in pages. This can
be done by combining the ideas I’ve discussed in tips #57 and #59.

You can use a free site like Bit.ly to do tracking. Create a separate tracking ID
for each of places where you generate traffic. For instance, you should have a
separate tracking ID for sites like:

www.SteveScottSite.com 73
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

• Facebook
• YouTube
• Twitter
• Articles and Web 2.0 sites
• Guest posting
• Blog commenting

I personally believe that tracking is the #1 reason why I’ve had success with my
affiliate business. I don’t think I’m any smarter than anyone else. Instead, all I
did was track like a fanatic and make adjustments from the results I got
back.

#78 – Video Marketing

YouTube is an excellent place to generate traffic. Starting in 2007, I made

simple videos from the articles I wrote on my site. All I did was read the article,
add a few slides/pictures, and then upload this video to YouTube (targeting a
specific keyword.)

At one point I was getting 200 subscribers a day from this one technique.

It’s not really hard to create YouTube videos. Just generate a list of keywords
for your specific niche. Then create a 2 to 3 minute presentation that helps
people with this topic. Rinse and repeat till you have a YouTube channel that
blankets an entire niche.

There are many ways to create simple videos. Here are the different tools I’ve
used:

• Create a webinar using software like Go to Meeting

• Film yourself using with a pocket camera like the Kodak Zi8
• Do screen capture and power point presentation using Camtasia
• Use a free a simple screen capture tool like Jing
• Create short animate videos on Go Animate
• Design a slick looking presentation with Slide Rocket
• Make short picture based video with Animoto

There are so many ways to create awesome videos these days. All you need is a
little bit of research and some creativity.

My last piece of advice is to direct your YouTube traffic to your opt-in page.
These clips will do a good job of preselling potential subscribers. So you should
send them directly to a spot where they can get on your email list.

www.SteveScottSite.com 74
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

#79– Create “Search Engine Optimized” Content

You need a “home” on the Internet. This is a place where you provide in-depth
content and give people a chance to know you better.

Even more important – You want to write articles that target specific
keywords.

Start by using the Google Keyword Tool. Enter a phrase related to your niche
market and you’ll see the number of times (each month) someone entered that
keyword.

My advice is to build content around specific keyword phrases. Target a single

one for each article. And then build backlinks to this content.

You won’t see any results from this idea for at least a few months. But it’s one
of the best long-term sources of web traffic.

#80 – Build an Audience Around Content

This idea goes hand-in-hand with the one I just mentioned…

You should write articles for people and not the search engines. Include the
target keyword in the title and headlines. Just don’t sacrifice quality in order
to get traffic from Google.

Another great source of long-term traffic is to build an audience. These will be

people who read your content, subscribe to an email list, and keep coming
back for more.

In my opinion, this is a great way to generate affiliate income because people

will learn to trust your affiliate recommendations.

Now…the trick is to incorporate social media to market your content. Start by

joining these sites:

• Twitter
• Facebook
• Google Plus
• LinkedIn

www.SteveScottSite.com 75
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

Then interact with the people you meet. Specifically you should target people
who have an interest in your niche topic. From there, you lightly promote the
content you have on your blog or site.

The key to success with social media is to be a helpful resource. You’re not
shoving affiliate links in people’s face. Instead you’re giving links to content
that helps people and then they have the choice to check out your affiliate
offers.

#81 – Podcasting

Podcasting has become a viable way to generate traffic and affiliate income –
Especially if you have passion or special knowledge in a particular niche.

This tip works best when you’re providing top-notch quality. So you’ll only
want to create content if you’re an authority affiliate marketer. Then you’ll
build an audience over time.

The best place to get started is to check out Cliff Ravenscraft’s blog: Podcast
Answer Man.

This guy definitely knows his stuff about putting together profit-pulling,
information packed podcasts. Check out his free posts and then go listen to his
podcasts on podcasting. You’ll learn a lot without having to spend a dime.

#82 – Offer Kindle Content

Publishing on Amazon.com has become an excellent way to generate traffic

(and affiliate income.)

What’s interesting is you don’t have to create a completely unique product.

Instead you can take your best stuff and package it into a tightly themed book.

I’ve only recently gotten into Kindle publishing. What I learned is it’s not hard
to do. Plus there are a few tricks to maximize the results you get from this
technique.

That’s why I recommend you check out my blog post on making money with
Kindle books for more information.

www.SteveScottSite.com 76
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

#83 – Create an iBooks Content

Apple is also making a strong push into the content publishing market. With
iPads being the tablet of choice for many people, you can reach an audience
that might not be on Amazon.com. And you can find them by publishing a
book on Apple’s iBooks platform.

There are a few downsides to publishing on iBooks…

1. You can’t publish the same premium product on Amazon. That means if
you’re selling a Kindle book then you can’t put it into iBooks format.
They want exclusive rights.

The good news is this rule doesn’t count for free books. So feel free to
post your free reports on both sites.

2. You need an ISBN number. Don’t worry it’s not that hard to do. In fact,
Apple has a lot of details on their author page.

So…the best place to get started is Apple’s iBooks Author page. This will
provide detailed instructions on what you need to do to get your content up
and running.

#84 – Buy Paid Email Sponsorship

There are thousands of email list owners who can send out a promotion for
your particular product or lead magnet. All you need to do is “rent” their list.

Renting an email list is all about Direct Response Marketing. Before trying it,
you NEED a few things:

• A professionally written email that converts

• A quality free or self-liquidating offer ($7 or less)
• A “killer” sales or squeeze page
• An average dollar value of your subscriber

You can build a HUGE list full of hungry buyers with this technique. But you
can also lose your shirt if you don’t know what you’re doing.

That’s why it’s important to do thorough research on buying email sponsored

ads. Specifically you want to find out more about things like data cards, list
brokers, and what type of lists to target (buyers vs. subscribers.)

www.SteveScottSite.com 77
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

One great place to start is: http://lists.nextmark.com

This site provides a hub of quality lists and gives a detailed overview of the
fundamentals of email sponsorship.

#85 – Create Viral Traffic by Offering Incentives

We all love those funny, viral videos that our friends send us. Truth is you can
create your own viral traffic. All you have to do is provide an “incentive
mechanism” for people to pass along the message.

Here are two examples for doing this:

#1 - Write a free report (or manifesto) that’s full of helpful

information. The primary objective is offer value to the reader. But it
includes a few links back to your site.

You get people to pass it along by including a few links to popular affiliate
products. What you’ll do next is contact other marketers/bloggers in your
niche and other this report for them to give away. Tell them you’ll customize
the report with their affiliate link. All they have to do is pass it along to their
audience and they’ll make money.

At first, you won’t make money with this technique. But people will see your
website at the beginning of the report. Then it’s a natural progression to check
out your site, join your email list, and look at your affiliate offers.

#2 – Write a Viral Blog Post. This idea incorporates the social media
technique I discussed in idea #80. Your goal is to build buzz around a specific
piece of content. So the first thing you need to do is make sure you have a top-
notch article on your site.

Set up a mechanism on a site like Pay with a Tweet where people can access a
piece of information if they pass it along to their social network.

Finally, you’ll want to contact friends and contacts in your niche. Ask them to
promote your piece of content to their followers. (This is an easy request to
fulfill if you’ve been helpful to them in the past.)

Done correctly, this technique can generate a lot of buzz for your content.
You’ll generate traffic from your initial contacts. And this will build more
visitors because they are passing along your message to their contacts.

#6 – “GrabWeb

Traffic
Bag”Marketing
Affiliate
Ideas

This section covers a variety of ideas that

don’t neatly fit in any of the above sections.

That doesn’t mean they’re any less

valuable.

The following strategies can generate a lot

of additional affiliate income when applied
correctly…

#86 – Make Videos to Promote New

Products

Everyday there are thousands of new

products hitting the market.

You can get a slice of this pie by creating

videos that target specific keywords people use to find information on these
new items.

This tip is a combination of ideas #18 & #78.

Basically you’ll create a simple video that “launch jacks” brand new products.
All you do is combine the title of the videos with certain buy keyword phrases:

• [Product name] reviews

• [Product name] deals
• Cheap [product name]
• [Product name] discount
• Best [Product name]

What I like about this idea is it’s really easy to get a video ranked high in the
natural results for Google search results.

www.SteveScottSite.com 79
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

That means that when people search for information it’s possible your video
will show up.

As an example, it took me 18 minutes to get a video ranked for a new Internet

marketing product that recently hit the market:

Hopefully you can see the potential of posting videos on YouTube. No other
website lets you rank content so quickly.

So where do you find products to promote?

I recommend a number of places:

• Amazon New Releases

• JV Notify Pro
• New Product Listings on Clickbank
• New WSO Products (You have to be a member of Warrior Plus to see
these.)

These are just a few places to get started. I recommend you create a list of
sites that you check on a regular basis to see what’s new in the market.

#87 – Ask for More Money

A smart vendor takes care of its affiliates. This is especially true for the people
who can generate a lot of sales. Prove you’re a successful affiliate and it’s not
too hard to get a higher commission rate.

www.SteveScottSite.com 80
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

Obviously it’s important to show you’re an affiliate superstar. This means

producing results on a regular basis instead of a making a few sales one time.

All you have to do is contact the vendor (or affiliate manager) and say you’re
looking to do a special “test run.” Explain that you’d like to increase traffic for
their site. But you want more money for each sale.

Most vendors will accept this deal. It’s a win-win situation because they’re
getting free traffic and customers who buy more products. Even if you ask for
75% commission, that’s still 25% that’s in his pocket.

This technique doesn’t really work with programs hosted by Clickbank because
they put a cap on the commission rates. Instead I’d look for affiliate programs
that are self-managed.

#88- Target Programs with Affiliate Contests

You can generate a lot of additional income by targeting affiliate programs that
hold regular competitions.

Usually these are run by savvy Internet entrepreneurs who understand what
works in affiliate marketing. I like these programs because they (usually) have
a proven product that converts well. Plus they offer a variety of affiliate tools to
help you sell this product.

I like affiliate competitions because you’ll get prizes in addition to making

money. For instance, I’ve seen affiliate programs give away:

• Cash bonuses
• Permanent bumps in a commission %
• Free one-on-one consultations with a top marketer
• Hot electronics like iPads, Kindles, and spy cameras
• Free trips to popular vacation destinations.

And my personal favorite was the beer of the month prize. Every month I
receive a box of 20 beers from a different microbrew in the U.S.

That’s the gift that keeps giving!

#89 – Bypass the Opt-In Page

Sometimes you don’t want to send traffic to a squeeze page of vendor.

www.SteveScottSite.com 81
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

Here are a few reasons why:

1. You’ve worked hard to presell the product not the opt-in page.
2. You’ve already sent people to the opt-in page
3. You know the product owner will steal your commissions by promoting
other affiliate offers in their follow-up sequence (Yes…some do that!)
4. You know the opt-in page doesn’t convert.

Instead, I often like to link to the sales page instead of the opt-in form. The
good news is this isn’t a hard to thing to do. Check out this blog post (and
video) on how to bypass an opt-in page for more details.

#90 – Translate an eBook

With their Joint Venture program, Clickbank has made it insanely easy to
partner with existing product owners and leverage the success of proven
affiliate offers.

One idea I’ve seen done is to translate an information product that’s already
popular in a niche. This is a great strategy if you’re fluent in another
language (or you know how to find native speakers.)

This idea is all about knocking on doors. You’ll need to contact popular eBook
authors and see if they’re interested in having their product translated. My
advice is to create a business plan for what you’ll do.

In addition to translation, you could offer to market this product to native

speakers of this language. You’ll get a lot of business if you give product
owners a step-by-step solution for making easy money!

Get started by going to the Clickbank Marketplace and do a search for popular
eBooks

Under each product, you’ll notice the different languages that are available. If
you don’t see a specific language that means it’s wide open. All you have to do
is approach the owner and broker a deal.

To really ramp up this income strategy, I suggest cornering a very specific

market. That way, you can cross promote each product on the backend. This
is an incredible way to make some serious affiliate income for both you and the
product owner. Rinse and repeat till you have a catalog of eBooks that
promote one another.

www.SteveScottSite.com 82
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

#91 – Create an iPhone or iPad App

The iPhone/iPad application market is really hot right now! There are a lot of
individuals who make a full-time income just by creating apps. Even better –
This is an industry that is rapidly growing. So there’s a lot of potential for
anyone with a creative streak.

You won’t make a lot of money on each app you sell. Most only go for $5 or
less. However if your product goes viral, it’s possible to generate some nice
passive income.

Many people won’t go into this market because they think it’s only for
techies. The truth is anyone with imagination can do well. The trick is to
think of an idea for an app and then find the right people to design it. Once
that’s done, all you have to do is market the heck out of it!

On the surface you might not think this is related to affiliate marketing.
Actually that’s not the case. Apps now rely on a referral model. So you can
make money by creating a free app that includes income-generating
advertising.

The best place to learn this strategy is Mike and Quoc’s eBook on how to create
iPhone apps.{affiliate link}

I recommend this product because Mike and Qouc show you how to design an
app people without a programming background. It’s a great guide for the non-
techies out there. These guys provide an overview of how to come up with an
app design and then outsource the entire process.

#92 – Build a Fiverr Business

Fiverr (www.fiverr.com) is a great way to earn fast cash. The premise is you
create a listing and offer a specific “gig”. If somebody likes your offer, they’ll pay
$5 for it.

There are a variety of services on Fiverr. You can make videos, design a web
page, or offer something wacky like “be someone’s Facebook girlfriend for a
week.”

www.SteveScottSite.com 83
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

Now the problem with doing these things is you’re basically trading time for
money. I don’t think this is a good long-term strategy. Instead, I recommend
using Fiverr to increase your affiliate earnings.

The idea here is to create an automated process. Offer a product or service that
can be outsourced or systematized. Your goal is to not be personally
responsible for fulfilling orders. This technique involves a bit of “out-of-the box”
thinking. However it can be very lucrative if you come across the right business
idea.

One idea is to offer to set up a new website for someone without technical
skills. You can make money on the backend by giving a discount code on web
hosting and doing everything for the customer. This makes money because
most hosting companies offer a commission rate of more than $100.

You can generate a bunch of ideas by checking out the Fiverr listings. Carefully
analyze the gigs offered here and find business models that can be automated.
Put on your thinking cap and figure out ways to improve upon what you find
on this site.

#93 – Create a Craigslist Business

Craigslist is a great tool to leverage offline

prospects and turn them into online
customers.

You do this by offering a service to certain

group of people.

For instance, you could create a listing

where you offer a free website to people in
certain industries (writers, models,
musicians, etc.)

All they have to do is buy hosting through

your affiliate link and you’ll build a quick website for them.

Then simply go to Fiverr.com and pay someone else to create a WordPress blog
through the Fantastico feature in Cpanel. And you can even pay another
person to create an awesome looking design.

These two things will cost you $10.

www.SteveScottSite.com 84
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

And most hosting packages pay out about $100.

So you’ve just pocketed $90 by posting an ad and sending out a few emails.

The best part is you can scale this idea up to different cities, countries, and
target prospects.

#94 – Ask for Coupon Codes

People want special deals or offers. So a great way to increase your affiliate
earnings is to create discount codes with your links.

Most affiliate programs offer special deals or coupon promotions. All you have
to do is ask for one.

You increase your affiliate income by telling people that you’re giving them
XX% savings or XX$ off.

Like I said, people love getting special deals. So make this offer part of your
regular affiliate promotions.

#95 – Subscribe to Affiliate Program Email Lists

A running theme in this report is you can make lots of money by leveraging
product launches. Remember – People love buying new things. So you want
to act as an information filter for hot products in your niche.

One way to find out “what’s new” is to subscribe to the affiliate email lists of
the top product owners in your market. Odds are, these will be the people who
will be releasing the offers that are about to be launched.

This information helps in a number of ways:

• You can register “review” related domain names before anyone else
• You have a chance to presell your audience
• You can get a review copy and see if it’s right for your audience
• You have time to create a related bonus

Finally, you want to subscribe with an email address that you check on a
regular basis. Profiting from new products is all about timing. So it’s
important to get up to date information.

www.SteveScottSite.com 85
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

#96– Consider the “Timing” of Your Promotions

Your affiliate sales are affected by when you’re promoting an item. That’s why
it’s important to consider upcoming events/holidays for your campaigns.

For instance, you can make a killing by promoting Amazon products during
these times:

• Black Friday/Cyber Monday

• Back to School
• Mother’s/Father’s Day
• Fourth of July (in the U.S.)
• Summer Movie Blockbuster Season

In addition, there are also some times when a specific event/holiday will
negatively impact your affiliate sales. Specifically these are times when there is
a decreased amount of people on the computer:

• Summertime
• Weekends
• Christmas (for information products.)
• Late evening/early morning

I’m not saying you can’t make money during these times. But you will
probably see a decrease in your affiliate earnings.

No matter what, think about when you’re promoting a product. Aim for the
periods where people are buying and avoid when they’re not.

#97 – Run a Location-Based Portal Site

Offline businesses can be a goldmine for a web business. What you’d do here
is create a portal site that targets a specific region or city. Then you’d add
affiliate links or sell advertising space to local businesses.

This is a great idea if you target an area that deals with a lot of tourism.

Example: I live in Belmar, New Jersey which is a HUGE tourist spot

during the summertime. If I was so inclined, I could make a killing by
creating a portal site structured around this area. Some of my content
would include summer rentals, bar promotions, surf reports, beach
activities, special events, and offseason activities.

www.SteveScottSite.com 86
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

The secret to success with this business model is web traffic. You have to
show proof that your site gets a lot of web traffic for specific “buying
keywords.” Do this and local businesses will line up to advertise on your site.

It’s actually fairly easy to obtain good rankings based on regional keywords.
Just brush up on basic search engine optimization tactics and you can quickly
rank for buying phrases.

#7 – TotalWeb

Traffic
Marketing
Affiliate
Business

I’m sure you’ve heard about the so-called

“super affiliate.”

This is the person who makes a full-time

income and kicks ass on any product
launch.

What separates the super affiliate from

everyone else?

I think it all comes from this person

treating affiliate marketing as a business;
not as a casual hobby.

A major mistake I see many affiliates make

is they don’t take a strategic approach with
their online efforts.

You need a plan to achieve a six-figure

income and beyond. And you need to think
of your long-term goals.

This section covers a number of ideas that help you create a total affiliate
business.

I’ll admit these tips are not sexy like some of the others I’ve discussed. But
these are the actions that will take you from a little bit of income to a whole lot
more…

#98 – Diversify Affiliate Income

I started my affiliate business by focusing on a single niche with a single site.

Now, I’ve learned that it’s important to create multiple streams of revenue. You
should create income from a variety of places:

www.SteveScottSite.com 88
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

• Commission Junction
• Amazon Physical Products
• Google Adsense
• Clickbank
• E-Junkie
• CPA Networks
• Warrior Special Offers
• Apps

In addition, you should leverage a variety of these traffic generation strategies:

• Blogging
• YouTube
• Search Engine Optimization on Google
• Amazon Kindle Books and Apple’s iBooks
• Facebook Ads

It’s important to diversify affiliate income because it prevents what’s called a

single point of failure. You’re basically protecting yourself from a sudden shift
in the marketplace.

Ultimately every major website changes their policies and “accepted practices.”
Sometimes this change won’t benefit your business. Not diversifying your
income strategies is like building a table with one leg. One wrong move and
everything comes toppling down.

Example: Imagine you live in California and you’re making a killing with
Amazon physical products. One day you wake up and discover that
Amazon no longer offers an affiliate program for California residents.
Overnight you lost your entire source of income.

I use this example because this happened last year. One day Amazon
decided to dump their program for folks in California. This one change
completely wiped out many successful affiliate businesses.

So bottom line – Diversify both your affiliate income and your traffic sources.

#99 – Break Down Projects into Tasks

Large scale projects can seem quit daunting. So there’s a tendency to

procrastinate and experience stress over working on a long-term goal.

www.SteveScottSite.com 89
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

One trick I’ve learned is to “chunk down” projects into short, manageable
tasks. Then I work on these tasks on a daily basis.

For instance, let’s talk about the report you’re currently reading. At one
point, it was just a thought I had during a plane ride to Austin, TX. And a
month later, I completed it.

First, I created a list of tasks that I had to complete:

• Gather notes and related blog posts

• Put the notes into a logical order
• Create the first draft
• Re-write the second draft and eliminate redundant content
• Write the third draft
• Hire a designer for an eCover image
• Create the opt-in page
• Do a final edit and quadruple check everything
• Sync the opt-in page with Aweber
• Announce the new report on my blog

Next, I dedicated time each day to work on this project. In fact, the first thing I
do every morning was work on this report. That way, I’ve started my day by
doing the most important thing first.

Finally, I created accountability with people who know me. I gave a formal
date on my blog that the report will be available in early March.

Plus I set deadlines with my mastermind group. That way, I knew I would lose
credibility if I didn’t follow up on my word.

Do these things and you’ll discover it’s not hard to complete any sort of affiliate
marketing-based project.

#100 – Master Your Time

You might be unnerved if you ever watched me work. That’s because you’d
always hear a ticking sound in the background.

You see, I use a time management principle called The Pomodoro Technique.
This is where you work in 25 minute blocks of concentrated effort and take 5
minutes off. Then rinse and repeat these periods of work throughout the day.

www.SteveScottSite.com 90

The ticking sound comes from a special Pomodoro app I have on iPhone. In a
weird way, it’s a soothing sound because it subconsciously helps me focus on
my current tasks.

Okay…you don’t have to go to weird extremes like I do. However it’s really
important to track how much you work on your affiliate business.

Why?

Because you’ll learn how long it takes you to complete each task for your
affiliate business. This information is important in a number of ways:

• It identifies the individual actions you take on a regular basis

• It identifies how much time each task is “worth.” This is useful for when
you want to outsource a task
• It identifies the things that commonly distract you from working
• It identifies the tasks that generate the best results in your business

All of these can directly lead to affiliate income. And in the next few tips, I’ll
explain how…

#101 – Eliminate One Distraction

Let’s do some simple math:

More Time on Income Activities = More Money

Ideally you want to focus most of your time on the tasks that make money.
Unfortunately you can’t do this when you feel overwhelmed. It’s like trying to
take a sip from a fire hose.

With this task you’ll identify the things that distract you:

• Are you wasting time on the Internet?

• Do you have too much email?
• Is your phone ringing off the hook?
• Are you getting results from Facebook/Twitter or just goofing off?

I’m not sure what distractions you face. So it’s important to list everything on a
piece of paper. Include everything that prevents you from focusing on the
important, income-producing activities.

After that, create a plan for HOW you’ll eliminate these distractions. You don’t
have to do them all at once. Instead focus on getting rid of one each week.

www.SteveScottSite.com 91
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

Example: My biggest distraction is surfing the Internet while writing.

50% of my time is spent creating content. So you can imagine how time
I’ve wasted because of this distraction.

One day, I decided to fix this problem. The solution was simple. Now
whenever I write, I turn off the wireless capability on my laptop. This
gives me an extra buffer if I want to surf the Internet.

This five second solution literally saves hours of work time each week!

Take time to think about your distractions. Perhaps you’ll discover a quick
solution that helps you focus on income activities.

#102 – Use the 80/20 Rule

You have a lot on your plate. Between working, family obligations, and
hobbies; there aren’t enough hours in the day. That’s why it’s important to
never waste time.

As your business develops, it’s important to regularly do an 80/20 analysis.

What’s 80/20?

This is a technique where you identify those key areas that get the best
results. It’s known that 80% of your results come from 20% of your
efforts. My suggestion is to completely focus on those few tasks that generate
the biggest return in your online business.

Break down every single task and measure the results. You’ll find that some
things work really well. Others are a complete waste of time. My advice is to
eliminate/outsource the things that don’t produce measurable results. Then
solely focus on the important stuff!

#103 – Compile Actionable Information

Information overload can be a major obstacle to your success as an affiliate

marketer.

Every day, you’re probably hit with offer after offer about the “perfect, can’t
miss system for making money.” This prevents some people from being able to
concentrate on the doing the things that produce measurable results.

www.SteveScottSite.com 92
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

The best way to prevent information overload is to only concentrate on learning

that next, single skill that will improve your affiliate business.

You can do this by creating an action plan for learning that next critical
skill…

Get started by establishing a feed reader where you include blogs related to
that skill. Bookmark related articles and compile the information into a central
location.

Next, check out different sites on the Internet:

• Run a search on Google using the major keywords

• Check out the PPC ads on the right
• Join email lists relating to this topic
• Watch content-filled YouTube videos
• Listen to podcasts that discuss this topic

The reason you’ll do these things is to get a broad perspective on what other
marketers are doing. Don’t just listen to one person’s opinion. Instead,
research and discover a variety of techniques you can try!

Third, read a few books/magazines on this topic. There might not be a lot
written about it. But an ‘authority book’ on this subject can dramatically
increase your learning curve.

Finally you should consider buying an information product on this subject. In

my opinion, this is a great way to quickly learn the ins-and-outs of particular
Internet marketing technique. Obviously do your research before buying
anything.

Concentrating on a single subject at a time is a great way to develop a valuable

skill for your business. Plus it provides a great perspective the next time you’re
hit with an offer that does not relate what you’re currently trying to do with
your affiliate business.

#104 – Keep an Idea Pad EVERYWHERE

Carry a small idea pad everywhere you go.

Some of the best ideas strike at the weirdest moments, so you never know what
you’ll come up with when you’re in the middle of doing something else.

www.SteveScottSite.com 93
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

Develop the habit of recording everything that goes through your head—no
matter how simple or how silly it might seem. You can never tell what will
become a “million dollar idea.”

The one tool that I use is the Evernote App for my iPhone. This lets you
record ideas based on pictures, text, and audio. This device lets me
immediately capture an idea, no matter where I am.

#105 – Create Processes for Your Affiliate Business

Everything you do online can be broken down into a process. All you have to do
is create one!

Have established processes and systems takes the guess work out of many
affiliate activities. Plus it helps you avoid wondering what to do next.

You have to systemize every aspect of your business.

I use systems for everything I can – Systems for commenting on blogs, for
building relationships online, managing my social media, writing blog posts etc.

This is incredibly important because you want to…

#106 – Outsource Parts of Your Affiliate Business

I believe in a principle called the “core genius.” These are the activities that
only YOU can do. Once you’ve identified your core genius, you should pass off
the low-dollar-per-hour activities to an outsource worker.

At first your core genius will be content creation. This is what separates you
from other people in your market.

Eventually though, you’ll want to move towards managing your business. NOT
doing the day-to-day stuff. You’ll still do some content creation. But the
majority of your time should be invested in running your affiliate business like
a well-oiled machine.

Example: We’ve discussed that YouTube is a great place to generate

traffic. The trick though is to get that initial exposure to a core
audience. This means automating the process of adding friends and
getting people’s attention.

www.SteveScottSite.com 94
111 Affiliate Marketing Strategies for a Six-Figure Income

Don’t do this yourself. You can use software to accomplish this. Or hire
an outsourcer to handle what’s basically a lot of grunt work.

At first you might not have the money for automation and outsourcing. My
suggestion is to reinvest the money you make back into your
business. Honestly, this is way more important than any material possession
you could buy. With outsourcing you’re able to focus on the activities that’ll
exponentially grow your affiliate business.

Look for ways to streamline your processes. Each week take 30 minutes and
analyze everything YOU do. Look for activities that can be passed along to
somebody else. Keep doing this till you’re only working on the things that
really matter.

#107 – Fix What’s Not Working

Again I want to drive home my point of having an ‘affiliate marketing

system.’

Like a machine there will be times when things go wrong. It doesn’t mean
you’re a failure. It means you have to figure out what part of your marketing
system is malfunctioning.

I recommend taking a mechanic’s approach when something’s not going

right. Take a look at each section of your system and see if it can be
tweaked. Ask yourself how it can be improved.

For instance, let’s say you’re not getting enough subscribers to your
newsletter. This means you either have to increase your traffic or improve your
landing page.

Or what should be done when you’re not making enough sales from your
emails? The solution is to improve your email marketing techniques or focus
on getting better ‘open rates’ for your messages.

Frankly, I’m not the smartest or most creative person in the world. What’s
made a difference is I’m able to learn from my mistakes. When things go wrong
in my system, I’m not afraid to rip it apart and figure out how to improve
it. You need this kind of attitude to achieve success in affiliate marketing!

#108 – Look for New Opportunities

It seems like the affiliate marketing ‘game’ changes on a daily basis. What
works now, might not work tomorrow.

That’s why it’s important to dedicate part of your week to study emerging
trends. I recommend doing the following to stay on top of Internet marketing:

• Subscribe to blogs filled with QUALITY content

• Review related forums – Specifically Warrior Forum
• Pay attention to the news and what’s going on in the world
• Attend conferences related to affiliate marketing
• Talk to people who have success doing cutting-edge thing

All of these actions require a little bit of extra effort on your part. But they’re
important if you want to take advantage of that next thing that will bring you
amazing results.

#109 – Focus on ONE Affiliate Business

Like I’ve said, there are too many bright, shiny objects on the Internet. All
promise a full-time online income.

My advice is to focus on one affiliate “income model” at a time. If you’re

building an authority site, then focus on that. And if you’re getting results with
Amazon niche sites – Then keep building them.

It’s way too easy to dabble in lots of things. The trouble is you won’t get
measurable results when you do that.

Work hard to get results with one affiliate marketing model. Then keep
working at it!

#110 – Use Consistent Effort

Success with affiliate marketing comes from consistent, day-to-day effort. You
don’t work hard one day and then take the next off.

There is no such thing as an overnight success. The people who do well on the
Internet keep momentum. They keep working hard till they achieve their
goals. But even when they reach a plateau, they’re constantly looking for the
next step.

#111 – Take Action NOW

Yes, it’s important to do research and know the facts. However, I’ve found
many people make excuses about “needing more information” before getting
started.

At a certain point, you need to stop reading and start doing. You’re going to
make some mistakes. But don’t let a fear of failure prevent you from taking
action.

My advice is to find the best affiliate marketing model and start right away. If
you encounter an obstacle, do more research, and learn how to overcome
it. Keep doing this till you achieve success.

A common element in super-achievers is they’re not afraid to take risks. They

probably screw up more than you and I. But they also learn from each
experience which brings them to the next level.

Personally, I’d rather make a bunch of mistakes if it gets me to that next level.

What do you think?
