Steel fabricators – Quality for hot dip galvanizing checklist at fabrication stage

If the answer to any of the questions below is YES, please consult the relevant section
of our website or contact us for further information.

On your steelwork is there:

(Venting & Drainage)


YES NO
• Hollow section, internal vent holes, design details which inhibit zinc/air flow, tight fitting
moving parts, shooting bolts, hinges or threaded sections?

If yes, see venting & drainage

(Surface Condition) YES NO


• Grease, oil based cutting/drilling lubricants, paint, paint markers mill markings, cast
iron mouldings, protective lacquer, previously galvanized parts, old heavily rusted steel,
welding slag and anti-splatter

If yes, see surface condition

(Welding Guidelines)
YES NO
• Lapwelds, pinholes in welds, Anti-spatter and intermittent welding

If yes, please see welding

(Avoiding Distortion)
YES NO
• Light section, plate mesh, perforated sheet, asymmetric design feature, louvers,
diagonal details, bracings welded to plated/steel and hollow sections welded to plate or
sheet steel

(Size Guidelines)

• Steel section longer than 7.4m, wider than 1.2m, higher than 2.5m
