Dear Reader
Dear Reader
Reflection: a theme that has maintained persistent throughout the semester. Going
into the final ePortfolio project, I underrated the extent to which I would need to apply
myself to create a website that was not only visually appealing, but one that consisted of
a semester’s worth amount of work. As I started incorporating work I did over the
semester, I was able to witness the improvements I have made in my writing over time. I
have been able to see the progress I have made as a reader, writer, and thinker through
reflection. I have always enjoyed writing, but I have developed a new sense of
appreciation for writing and the process that comes along with creating a new piece. As
each new assignment was completed, I felt more confident in my skills. In addition,
reflecting on each assignment gave me a new perspective and allowed me to learn from
each flaw in the previous piece and use that insight to be more successful on the new
one.
having other students review my work and give feedback, I was able to gain a new
perspective on my projects and further improve them. For the Extended Inquiry Project
(EIP), the most important assignment of the semester, we had many opportunities to
engage with other students and receive ideas from them that would allow us to polish our
projects before submitting them. These peer reviews were an essential part of my
success on the EIP and I hope to use this same technique in future projects.
From reflecting, I have grown more familiar with the strengths and weaknesses in
of the context. I am now working on focusing more on the ideas of the context, rather than
The topic proposal was an interesting assignment because I was able to elaborate
on why I was intrigued by the Opioid Epidemic. I was able to explain why I was engrossed
in the topic from the start and how I could use that as a driving force to complete further
research. The topic proposal allowed me to be aware of what I previously knew about the
topic, but also what extent I would need to go to find research that would successfully
The annotated bibliography was not the most fun assignment, but I found it to be
beneficial when it came down to finding credible sources for the EIP. Because the Opioid
Epidemic is a prevalent issue in the United States, there were plenty of sources that
relayed information on the topic; however, the abundance of sources made me feel
The rough draft of the EIP went relatively smoothly. I planned to have the EIP
presented as a video and that meant I would not have the traditional “draft” like other
students who were writing a paper. Instead, I created a script that would serve as an
outline for the order in which the video would play. I found this to be the most efficient
way to plan the video and it allowed me to visualize the video in the way I wanted it to be.
I spent a vast amount of time working on the final video and I am proud of the way it
turned out. I hope the viewers are able to learn from the information presented and enjoy
any of us realized. At first, I was overwhelmed and intimidated by creating my own website
as I was not very familiar with the concept. However, I found the website to be a fun idea
that I could make my own. After playing around with the different tools of Weebly, I felt
more comfortable and began to be more creative with the site while also reflecting on the
assignments of the semester. The ability to reflect has proved to be a very essential skill
semester. I enjoyed being able to witness the improvements I have made through the
After reflecting on the assignments that I have incorporated into the ePortfolio, I
am grateful for the experience that UWRT-1103 has given me and lessons I have learned
from it. I have learned to reflect on each assignment that I complete and find a way to
improve moving forward, and I plan to use this process in future assignments. With the
combination of a great professor, insightful peers, and assignments that have shaped me
as a writer, I feel I was able to complete the class with a new perspective that has made
