PI GAMMA MU INTERNATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY is an honor society, not a fraternity/ sorority or an


honorary society.

When you graduate and leave the university, be sure to become a member of PI GAMMA MU (U.P.
CHAPTER), if you are nominated and get invited. Do not postpone your membership, otherwise you might miss
it entirely.

WHY PI GAMMA MU MEMBERSHIP?


 BECAUSE OF HONOR AND PRESTIGE
 PI GAMMA MU is the oldest, largest and most prestigious, and the only international honor society
concerned with the Social Sciences (founded in 1924 in the U.S. and in 1932 in the Philippines).
 Membership is earned through outstanding work and distinguished achievement, and members are
identified as achievers and highly serious in attaining success.
 PI GAMMA MU (U.P. CHAPTER) counts among its membership the cream of U.P.’s graduates many of
whom are, or have become recognized leaders in their chosen professions.

 BECAUSE OF STRINGENT CRITERIA FOR SELECTION


 Becoming a member of PI GAMMA MU is receiving an award.
 Admission into membership in PI GAMMA MU is by (1) invitation only after a (2) nomination by the College, (3)
final approval by the Board of Officers and is (4) limited to junior and senior (GWA not lower than 1.75) or graduate
(GWA not lower than 1.25) students in the upper ten percent (10%) of their class. Regardless of general weighted
average upon graduation, transferees from other universities are not nominated. To qualify the student must have
earned at least 21 units of social sciences. Outstanding professionals in the field of social sciences have also been

nominated for membership.

 A gold-plated pin plus two ID’s (one from UP Chapter and another from U.S. Mother Chapter).
 A certificate worth framing from the U.S. Mother Chapter.
 Advancement in U.S. Civil Service Rating which can translate into a pay increase of thousands of dollars per year.
 Invitation to PGM regional meetings and triennial conventions in the U.S.
Local chapter can facilitate procurement of U.S. visa by requesting Mother Chapter to issue formal invitation. Local
chapter may provide financial assistance upon application.
 Opportunity to apply for exclusive Pi Gamma Mu scholarships to attend graduate school in the US.
 Eligibility for Association of College Honor Societies partner scholarships in the U.S.
 PI GAMMA MU members who teach in U.P. can avail of the PI GAMMA MU Professorial Chair Award in Social
Science (P100,000.00).
 Chance to apply for financial assistance for thesis writing (as much as P30,000.00) and dissertation writing (as much
as P50,000.00) from the local U.P. Chapter.
 Chance to apply for financial assistance from the UP Chapter to disseminate excellent research work here and
elsewhere or to attend relevant conferences/seminars as an invited participant in the local/foreign setting.
 Participation in PI GAMMA MU Chapter other activities.
 Membership means worldwide recognition because PGM is globally renowned!
