Mixed Conditionals, Form and Exercise

The document discusses mixed conditionals, which contain elements of both the second and third conditional tenses. It provides examples of mixed conditional sentences and the rules for forming them. Specifically, it explains that if one part of the sentence refers to the present or future, it follows the structure of the second conditional (past tense after "if" and "would" plus infinitive). And if one part refers to the past, it follows the structure of the third conditional (past perfect after "if" and "would have" plus past participle). It then provides 12 example sentences for learners to practice forming mixed conditional sentences.

Mixed Conditionals

Da se podsetimo...

Drugi tip se odnosi na sadašnjost, uglavnom je suprotan od onog što trenutno jeste, pa je nerealan, skoro
neostvarljiv:
If I had money, I would buy a new bike. (Da imam novac kupio bih..., ali nemam...).
Kao što primećujete, u ovom tipu posle IF ide Past Simple Tense (druga kolona, ili nastavak -ed na glagol, ukoliko je
pravilan), a u drugom delu rečenice ide would + infinitive:
If she knew the answer, she would tell you.
If I didn't have to study, I would go with you. (odrični oblik gradimo pomoću didn't+infinitive, osim kada
pravimo negaciju od glagola be - tada je odrični oblik weren't: If I weren't so busy, I would go with you.)

Treći tip se odnosi na prošlost, zamišljamo šta bi se desilo da se neka radnja drugačije odvijala:
If I had known that you were coming, I wouldn't have left. (Da sam znao da dolaziš, ne bih otišao.)
Gradi se tako što posle IF ide Past Perfect (had + treća kolona/-ed nastavak), a u drugom delu would have + treća
kolona/-ed nastavak:
If she hadn't been busy, she would have come with us.
He would have understood you if you had spoken clearly.

Mešoviti tip kondicionalnih rečenica se zove tako upravo zato što se jedan deo rečenice odnosi na
sadašnjost, a drugi na prošlost, pa zavisno od toga koristimo pravila građenja za drugi i treći tip: na onaj
deo rečenice koji se odnosi na sadašnjost primenićemo pravila za drugi tip, a na onaj deo koji se odnosi na
prošlost primenićemo pravila za treći tip:
If we _______________ (sign) that contract last month, we _________________ (outperform) our
competition now. (Da smo potpisali ugovor prošlog meseca, mi bismo sada...)
Pošto se prvi deo odnosi na prošlost, to je treći tip i u njemu posle IF ide Past Perfect; a drugi deo se odnosi
na sadašnjost i to je drugi tip kondicionala, u kome u tom drugom delu ide would + infinitive:
If we had signed that contract last month, we would outperform our competition now.
If he _______________ (not/leave) the company 2 years ago, he _______________ (have) a better
salary now.
(hadn't left) (would have)
Nije nužno da se IF deo odnosi na prošlost, a ovaj drugi na sadašnjost, može i obrnuto:
If I _________________ (not/have) to study these days, I _________________ (go) out with you last
night.
U ovom slučaju, posle if ide Past Simple, a u drugom delu ide would have + treća kolona/-ed:
If I didn't have to study these days, I would have gone out with you last night.
