Series 1600 New Interface “Smart Connect”

Dear colleagues,

As announced in the pricelist 2010, the Smart Connect will be available at the 1st of May.
The Series 1600 will have a bigger change regarding the electronic components and Software.
This will causes changes for the customer.
Due to the launch of the Smart Connect a new Functional Software as well as an Engine
Identification Label “EIL” and a new cable harness will be scope of supply for the Series 1600.
All these components will be standard on all engine deliveries starting 1st of May 2011.

2005-03
Smart Connect

The Smart Connect will replace the MAU and the SAM as the standard scope of supply for
all customers. After the market release of the Smart Connect the MAU as well as the SAM are
no longer available for sale.

The current configuration for SAM or MAU can still be delivered after the 1st of May but
only for replacement engines in existing GenSets. (SAM or MAU will not be delivered,
only the engine)

 The Smart Connect was tested with all major GenSet controller manufacturers for
further detail see business portal.

 All information which is needed for customer such as wiring, presentations and
documentation are available on the business portal.

2005-03
 The market launch of the Smart Connect is stated in the Series 1600 price list since the
end of 2009.
 Speed demand (G66.6x) and Droop (G66.9x) can not be configured via the price list
anymore. This can now be done with the Smart Connect directly.

FSW

The functional Software of series 1600 12V and 6R will change from version 1.0 to 1.2 and
the 8V and 10V from 1.1 to 1.2 to enable the functions mentioned below.
The changes which are most important to the customer are as follows:

 Functional connection to the Smart Connect

 Standard J1939 at CAN2
 Internal MTU Protocol on CAN1
 Engine Identification Label

EIL

The electronic Identification Label is a must in the new configuration for the correct
functionality of the engine. The EIL ensures that only the correct Dataset can be used on one
particular engine.
A manipulated or damaged EIL will cause a limited operation functionality of the engine.
The EIL is mounted in the crankcase and connected via the engine cable harness. The EIL
cannot be removed without destroying it.
For further details please see Technical Documentation.

Best regards
