The Municipality of Buruanga is one of the fast emerging eco-tourism
municipality located at the tip most of western side of the province of Aklan. A 5th
class municipality that took a big step into progression making it as three time recipient
awardee of the Seal of Good Local Governance from 2016 to 2018.
Buruanga takes the lead in the implementation of child developmental
programs to uplift the standard of living of each Buruanganon and continue its way
towards being a child friendly municipality. Its efforts lead into the establishment of
the Municipal Council for the Protection of Children in 2013 continuing to the
achievement of Seal of Child-Friendly Local Governance for three (3) consecutive
years.
From then, the determination continues to uphold and advocate the rights of
the children resulted in institutionalizing programs, projects and activities for them
creating a safe, healthy, secure and progressive environment for children.
These program cater to the four (4) basic child rights: Survival Right, Protection Right,
Participation Right and Developmental Rights.
SURVIVAL RIGHTS
The municipality of Buruanga ensures that children in the community have their
adequate resources in sustaining their needs in terms of health and well-being.
The Municipal Health Office provides assurance that these needs are properly
addressed through their free immunization, medical and dental check-ups, as well as
maternal and child care services, e.g. child weighing and supplemental feeding.

PROTECTION RIGHT
Every child has the right to live in a safe, risk free and nurturing environment
helping them to interact and express themselves without fear of discrimination as
well as physical, mental and emotional abuse.
To be able to secure and sustain such privilege, the municipal government
through the effort of the Buruanga PNP and MDRRMO, notable programs and
activities, as well as regular ongoing programs were implemented to ensure the
safety of the children in their homes not only on man made crisis but also during
natural disasters.
The passage of the resolution in The adoption of RA 10627 (Anti Bullying Act
of 2013) – An Act Requiring all Elementary and Secondary Schools to Adopt Policies
and to Prevent and Address the Acts of Bullying in their institutions, greatly improved
and prevented the incidents of bullying in all educational institutions in the
municipality.
PARTICIPATION RIGHTS
To institutionalize the right of every child to participate, the MCPC calls for the
Re-organization of Barangay Council for the Protection of Children with the presence
of a child representative as member of the council, this is to ensure that voice of the
children be heard and be part of the planning process in the formulation of the
Annual Work and Financial Plan of the LCPC.
Seminar/trainings and Workshop activities were conducted to BCPC Members
and Barangay Officials in order to capacitate them in harnessing the children and
youth in their vital role in the society.
To maximize their participation in local governance, children and youth are enjoined
to be part of the LGUs cultural and social activities in coordination with the PYAP and
Sangguniang Kabataan.
DEVELOPMENTAL RIGHTS
The municipal government also believes that education is one of the pillars in
attaining success. It is but essential tool leading into children empowerment and
attainment of their future aspirations.
The MCPC also recognizes its vital role in building a sustainable society and
making the future leaders as well as professionals of our society with the aid of other
organizations in the municipality.
With that, quality education can easily be achieved as long as the local
government unit continues its way in enabling the children to be equipped with
knowledge and skills that they can utilize in their advancement in the future.
