General Recycling Criteria

General Recycling Criteria


 
Material What CAN BE recycled What CAN’T BE recycled
Containers (non-plastic)  Glass bottles and jars of any color (please avoid breaking
glass)
 Aluminum cans (Do not crush or flatten cans.)
 Aluminum pie pans and foil
 Steel (tin) cans
 Metal jar lids
 Metal bottle caps
 Empty aerosol cans (no caps)
 Paper milk cartons/drink boxes/juice cartons

Plastic Bottles  Water, soda and juice bottles NO plastic bags


 Milk and Orange Juice jugs (not paper cartons) NO clamshell or "go to" plastic
 Shampoo, conditioner and liquid soap bottles containers
 Liquid detergent and other cleaning supply bottles NO plastic tubs
 Ketchup and other condiment bottles NO plastic plates
 Peanut butter jars NO plastic egg cartons
NO six pack rings

Paper  Newspapers and newspaper inserts NO Kraft (orange/brownish)


envelopes (can compost)
 Corrugated cardboard and brown paper bags
NO Neon, fluorescent or dark-colored
 Magazines & Catalogs paper (can compost)
 Phone Books NO Paper towels (can compost)
NO Paper cups
 Larger Paperboard Items (such as cereal boxes, shoe boxes, NO photographs
large gift boxes, egg cartons, and paper 6 and 12-pack NO Frozen food, ice cream & frozen
holders). juice containers
NO Pet food bags.
 Office Paper/Opened Mail

 Hard-Bound Books and Paperbacks current can be given to used book
stores and/or local libraries.

Scrap Metal Most scrap metal NO refrigerators, freezers, air


conditioners or any other appliances

NO tires
NO pressurized containers such as

NO wire fencing

 Stereo/ radio equipment

Plastic Bags #2 and #4 ONLY (newspaper bags, grocery bags, dry cleaner NO sandwich bags, plastic food wrap
bags, etc.) or black bags
• MUST be clean, dry, and empty of all food, receipts, etc. with
tape and stickers removed
Textiles & Shoes Clothing, Bedding, Towels, Fabrics NO underwear or socks
• Paired Shoes (no mud) NO cleats, metal parts, zippers, mud,
• Items may be stained or ripped, but they must be clean. Must or Keds-type canvas sneakers
be 12” square or larger.

Food Waste & Yard Clippings All biodegradable material including food scraps, grass, yard In individual composts it is
clippings, paper towels, Kleenex, lint from dryer/ vacuum, plant recommended not to put meat, dairy
clippings, biodegradable litter. or bones. For industrialized composts
these materials are ok.
Animal waste can be composted only with large municipal
composting facilities.
