October 23, 2018
The second day of the seminar started with a Nationalistic Song followed by a short
prayer by Mrs. Analyn Dorado. It is followed by the checking of attendance that was led by
Mrs. Mary Jane Octaviano. Participants were asked to chant their respective schools and
after that they will project a pose for a photo. Energizer was given to the teachers to shake
their senses. It was led by a Mapeh Teacher from PCEHS-Mr. Benedict Dominic Cruz and
teachers enjoyed the short dance. After that.a recapitulation of yesterday’s topics and events
was delivered by Ms. Rosemarie Santos, matching it with an audio-visual presentation.
The first speaker of the day was Ms. Cecilia Parras (Dept. Head from PCNHS-Tramo)
with her topic- Different Difficulties in Basic Learning and Applying Knowledge. She
started the discussion with an activity where in there are clues given and participants must
identify that famous person through the clues given. She was able to educate us with the
different learning difficulties and how teachers can identify one from their class. The
second part of the talk was continued by Mr. Bello T. Camacho (PCEHS). He discussed and
shared to us the Accomodations and Modifications for Students with Disabilities. He
imparted different ideas that teachers can use in handling our learners. Mr. Camacho
ended the topic with asking a question- “What is the most important insights you have
gained in the discussion?” One of the teachers answered “ The most valuable insights I
have learned about how children learn is that each child has different capabilities. They
may have different difficulties but theses incapabilities can be transformed to positive
outcome. We,the teacher should be able to recognize the needs of our learners to be able to
give the right medium of instruction suited to them.” This answer only showed that the
participants wholeheartedly understand everything that was shared to them.
The lunch was served at exactly 12 noon and the teachers enjoyed the palatial food
served to them. After the lunch break, Ma’am Condes had a short talk about the importance
of taking good care of a baby inside the womb, especially in its developing stage to avoid
any incapabilities upon birth. Following the short talk was a tricky energizer led by Ms.
Rachel Samson from PCANHS.
The next speaker was Mr. Ruben Peralta, a SPED teacher from PVES who tackled
Difficulty in Adaptive Skills. He was able to let us understand why students display some
actions not taken positively by teachers. He showed the short clips from the movie about
Helen Keller’s life as a child and how her teacher,Anne Sullivan, taught her to adapt in her
world of darkness because of being deaf and blind. He also stressed a point that,
we,teachers must not let our self esteem drop because of the actions of our students.
Because if we do, that will be a window to a not positive way in dealing with our students.
The fourth speaker was Ms. Amelyn Villanueva( Dept. Head from KNHS) who discussed the
Difficulty in Remembering and Concentrating. She gave an activity where in participants
should recall a student who is unique in every way, interms of physical, mental and
behavioral characteristics. At the end of the discussion, we realized that even with those
difficulties,we shoud not exclude those learners rather we must give them the love and
attention that they need for them to be nurtured. The Last speaker was Ms. Marieta Garino
a Master Teacher from PVES who gave a helpful activity wherein participants have to
publish visual aids that we can use in teaching our students with difficulties. Teachers were
able to make learning materials that is helpful to our students.
To sum it up,this day has given the participants a lot of insights and motivation to do
well in catering our students with difficulties. With these learnings they imparted it will not
be impossible to teach and reach the mind and heart of our learners.
