TRANSFORMER TESTING PROCEDURE

Specifications -

IR Test -
Step-1 Set 5000V on Megger,
Step-2 Connect Megger Red Lead to HT R-Phase and and Black Lead to ground, take reading on
Megger. Value will be >1000G-Ohm
Step-3 Connect Megger Red Lead to LT R-Phase and and Black Lead to ground, take reading on
Megger Value will be >1-G-Ohm
Step-4 Connect Megger Red Lead to HT R-Phase and and Black Lead to LT R-Phase, take reading on
Megger Value will >1000be G-Ohm
#worst Acceptable Value: (11000+1000) =12M-Ohm Note: Discharge the Terminals after taking each
reading.

Magnetic Balance - HV Side

Step-1 Fix transformer on Main tap (Say Tap 4 in our case)
Step-2 Take LT supply 415, Connect R-Y-B terminals on HT bushings. LV Bushing will remain open.
Take Voltage reading on following manner.
Step-3 ON R-Y poles of MCB, Take reading on R-Y, Y-B, B-R
Step-4 ON Y-B poles of MCB, Take reading on R-Y, Y-B, B-R
Step-5 ON B-R poles of MCB, Take reading on R-Y, Y-B, B-R
# Result Hint : RY=YB+BR

Magnetising Current-
Step-1 Take LT supply 415, Connect R-Y-B terminals on HT bushings. LV Bushing will remains open.
Take voltage reading R-Y, Y-B, B-R
Step-2 Set tap at 1 Position take Current reading of each phase R,Y and B. it will be on milliamps
Step-3 Set tap at 4 Position take Current reading of each phase R,Y and B. it will be on milliamps
Step-4 Set tap at 7 Position take Current reading of each phase R,Y and B. it will be on milliamps
Turn ratio or Voltage Ratio
Step-1 Take LT supply 415, Connect R-Y-B terminals on HT bushings. take voltage reading RY, YB, BR
Step-2 Set Tap at 1 Position - Take r-y, y-b, b-r voltage reading
Step-3 Set Tap at 2 Position - Take r-y, y-b, b-r voltage reading
Step-4 Set Tap at 3 Position - Take r-y, y-b, b-r voltage reading
Step-5 Set Tap at 4 Position - Take r-y, y-b, b-r voltage reading
Step-6 Set Tap at 5 Position - Take r-y, y-b, b-r voltage reading
Step-7 Set Tap at 6 Position - Take r-y, y-b, b-r voltage reading
Step-8 Set Tap at 7 Position - Take r-y, y-b, b-r voltage reading
#Result Hint - On Principal Tape- Ratio HT/LT shall be same as turn ratio

Vector Group: -
Step-1 Take LT supply 415, Connect R-Y-B terminals on HT bushings. And Short R-r through a cable.
Step-2 Take Voltage reading of following manner
R-Y, Y-B, B-R
R-r=0, R-y, R-b
Y-r, Y-y, Y--b
B-r, B-y, Bb
r-y, y-b, b-r

Remarks: -
R, Y, B are HT side terminals
r, y, b are LT side terminals
