Construction of Bye-Pass For Mehekar Town Design of Crust

The document summarizes the design of the crust for a bypass construction project in Mehekar Town. It calculates that the cumulative number of standard axles to be catered for in the design is 21 msa based on traffic growth projections. It then determines that with an N value of 21 msa and a CBR of 8%, the total required pavement thickness from IRC guidelines is 577 mm. It proposes a pavement structure of 200 mm GSB, 250 mm WMM, 100 mm BM, and 40 mm BC for a total thickness of 590 mm.

CONSTRUCTION OF BYE-PASS FOR MEHEKAR TOWN

DESIGN OF CRUST

No. of commercial vehicles as per last count P = 708

Initial traffic in the year of completion of construction in A = P(1+r)x

terms of no. of commercial vehicles per day

Where,
P = No. of commercial vehicles as per last count = 708 Commercial vehicles / Day

r = Annual growth rate = 7.5% 0.075 = 0.075

No. of years between last count and the year of
x= = 2.00 years
completion of construction

Therefore, A = 708 x #( ## + 0.075 ) 2

= 819 Commercial vehicles / Day

Cummulative number of standard axles to be catered for in the design in terms of msa,

N = 365 x [(1+r)n - 1) x A x D x F

Where,

n = Design Life in years = 15

F = Vehicle damage factor = 3.5 (As per Table 1, pg. 12 of IRC : 37 - 2001, For plain terrain)

D = Lane distribution factor = 0.75 (As per cl. 3.3.5.1 of IRC: 37 - 2001)

= 0.375

Therefore, N = 365 x ###

[( + 0.075 ) 15 - 1 ] x 819 x 0.75 x 3.5

0.075

= 21.00 msa

Murum of C.B.R of 8% is to be used in subgrade.

Therefore, C.B.R considered for pavement thickness calculation is 8%

Therefore, for N= 21.0 msa

C.B.R = 8%

From Plate 2, pg. 35 of IRC:37 - 2001

Total Pavement thickness

= 577 mm
required

Provide GSB = 200 mm

WMM = 250 mm

BM = 100 mm

BC = 40 mm

Total = 590 mm
