ODD Semester 2019-2020
Date: 23/07/2019
1. Course Description: Fundamentals and principles of design, design and selection of machine
elements such as shafts, bearings and gears etc. design of mechanisms.
2. Scope and Objective of the Course: This course deals with the mechanical design
methodology, procedure and techniques, fundamentals as well as application to various groups of
machine elements. First the general principles of design in static and dynamic (fatigue) conditions
are taught and then application to selected machine elements is covered. The prerequisites are
knowledge of mechanics of solids, structure and properties of materials and mathematics, studied
by students in the previous years. Moreover, the students will make use of MATLAB, Excel, and
Finite Element tools to learn through few case studies about the practical implementation of the
concepts of this course.
